Senator LeMieux Gives Report from Washington The Chamber welcomed U. S. Senator George LeMieux for a special breakfast meeting on August 9. While in recess, Senator LeMieux presented a “Report From Washington”, which summarized his experience for the last year in the Capitol. LeMieux, formerly the Chairman of the Gunster law firm and Governor Crist’s Chief of Staff, was appointed by the Governor to fill out the remainder of the unexpired term of Mel Martinez. Included in Senator LeMieux’s comments were his observations of the Gulf oil disaster, the country’s energy supply, health care reform and several pieces of legislation focused on ways to better control and reduce federal spending. The breakfast was sponsored by Good Samaritan Medical Center.

Mixer at DiSalvo’s Trattoria The new DiSalvo’s Trattoria hosted the Chamber’s August 11 Mixer. Mixers bring together business people from all over the Palm Beaches for an early-evening combination of socializing, “shop-talk” and connection-building. DiSalvo’s Trattoria is a family-owned neighborhood Southern-Italian/Sicilian restaurant featuring authentic family recipes that have been handed down from generation to generation. The restaurant features a “family” room that can accommodate up to 26 people, main dining room and a special take-out area that has their authentic sauces and salads ready to go as well as their calzones, pizzas and menu items. Located on Jog Road, one block south of Okeechobee Boulevard in West Palm Beach, DiSalvo’s is open for lunch and dinner. Special thanks to Pat DiSalvo and Manager Chad for their hospitality.

What Does a Regional Chamber Mean to my Business? Since a Chamber membership is essentially a marketing tool, offering a consistent stream of prospective customers in a variety of business categories, the key is to find the one, or ones, that meet your marketing needs. If you are, for example, a dry-cleaners, then your entire customer base would be with in a couple of mile radios of your location. That is the nature of your business and you know that’s where your marketing need lies. Then a small Chamber that addressed that exact demographic will be perfect for your business. However, if you are that same dry-cleaners and you want to send delivery trucks out to all the major office building in the area, you want to have several locations around the area or you want to become a “destination” dry-cleaners specializing in exceptional quality, special garment storage or restoration, then you need a Chamber addressing a broader demographic. As the title suggests, the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches, with its regional scope is the “big pond” that provides that reach.

Chamber Has Regional Scope Palm Beach County is the second largest county in the state of Florida and home to 14 Chambers of Commerce. All Chambers are alike in some ways and different in others. The Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches is a regional Chamber, with members from all over the county. There are even members from out of state who are anxious to have a presence in that Chamber and reap the benefits of membership there.

stream of new prospective customers, welcoming an average of 35-40 new members each month. When considering a Chamber membership as a marketing tool for your business, it’s important to be sure that you are in the one, or ones, that meet your marketing goals.
