Ambassador Committee

The Ambassador Committee had several shining stars in May. Pictured and mentioned above are Ambassadors who not only gave referrals, but recruited new members to our regional Chamber. We thank these volunteers for helping to ensure the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches’ success. Thank you Ambassadors!

Mix, Mingle & Martinis What could be better than networking with an endless stream of prospects and strategic alliances? Adding Martinis!! The well-known hot spot, Blue Martini in CityPlace hosted this latest Ambassador Happy Hour. This mix and mingle was highly attended and grossed nearly 50 prospective Chamber members. These prospects were able to network with one another and were given the opportunity to ask questions and gain insight from the Ambassador Committee regarding joining our fantastic regional Chamber. Gina Loli, Events Director of Blue Martini at CityPlace, pulled out all the stops to host this lively crowd. An abundance of appetizers and martinis were provided for the attendees and, as an added bonus, Blue Martini had their “buy one get one” happy hour special. To top off this sensational event, it was LATIN NIGHT! Live on stage towards the end of the event was an incredibly energetic and talented Latin band. If you would like more information about the Ambassador Committee, please contact Jaime Crespy at (561) 833-3711 Ext 230 or email jcrespy@palmbeaches.org.

YPOP Participates in Relay for Life On May 21st the Young Professionals of the Palm Beaches headed to Meyer Amphitheater to participate in the Downtown West Palm Beach Relay for Life event. The evening was filled with music, food and of course, fundraising. YPOP thanks Christiana Gaudet of www.tarotbychristiana.com for volunteering her time to do tarot readings in exchange for donations. Over 15 local businesses participated by donating raffle items and the event, attended by both YPOP and American Cancer Society members, raised over $400. The Young Professionals of the Palm Beaches’ hard work paid off and in total over $1,200 was collected for the American Cancer Society event. The next YPOP event is scheduled for June 16th at Cantina Laredo. Cost is $10 for Chamber members and $15 for non-members. The event is limited to young professionals ages 21-40 only, please. How to Track Your Marketing Efforts Advertising is one of the most effective ways of creating new business for your company. Whether it’s an expensive television campaign or use of free social media sites, the most important question to ask is: Is it working? One of the biggest mistakes a company can make is by investing a large sum of money into an advertising campaign without establishing methods to track each individual aspect. While the campaign itself may be successful, the company is left wondering what part actually worked. While there are a number of different ways to track each media, some examples include: Print Advertising: The best way to track your print advertising is to include a physical coupon or, if applicable, an online coupon code. The coupon itself will help you track exactly where your clients are coming from, and an expiration date will help create more immediate results. Unique phone numbers can also be rented specifically for tracking calls from mailing pieces. Online Advertising: Online advertising, when tracked, can prove to be the most valuable information for your company. Whenever possible, each advertising campaign should have its own unique URL. This does not mean you need 3 different websites, as the URLs can be forwarded to the same place. By having separate landing pages, each individual banner can be tracked. Coupons and print advertising often only track purchases while online advertising can track clicks. Through the clicks, it can not only be determined how many people visited, but also the visit-to-action ratio.

Tips for a successful marketing campaign:

Be Honest: Only advertise specials and

deals that are sincere, as hidden costs or conditions are more likely to alienate potential clientele.

Include a Call to Action: Expiration

dates and time-limited specials are more likely to result in immediate action and purchases.

Cross Promote:

Tie your efforts together. Remember to include the company website (and social media sites if applicable) on printed materials. Include digital versions of coupons on the website. Use Twitter to promote an ad in that weekend’s paper.

Know Your Audience: By paying

attention to industry trends, you are more likely to find out how people are hearing about your company. Take the guesswork out of it by simply asking “How did you hear about us?” when someone new calls.

Marketing: It All Works Together

While one media might prove to be the best for generating new interest, it doesn’t necessarily mean the other media aren’t doing their job as well. For instance, a direct-mail piece would most likely have both the company phone number as well as website on it. Chances are, a number of people will visit the website and do research on the product or service advertised, perhaps looking for additional coupons and savings. After reviewing testimonials and product ratings, the educated buyer might make a purchase directly from the website, while others will call or visit the business directly.

The Chamber offers a wide range of discounted advertising opportunities to its members, including long and short term print and internet advertising as well as sponsorships. For more information on these opportunities or to discuss which method would work best for you, contact Alexandra Guth at aguth@palmbeaches.org or (561) 833-3711 ext. 234.

Improving Your Networking Game Looking for new business? Networking is the perfect way to meet new contacts that can mean new business for your company. Experts agree that relationship building is the best way to secure new clients and to keep them. Once you have an established relationship with your customers, they are much less likely to be wooed away by your competition. Especially in today’s marketplace, people like to do business with someone they know, like and trust.

Follow up. You’ve invested time and money in your networking efforts, make sure they pay off. Make notes on the cards immediately after the event, so you’ll remember what you spoke to that person about and what your intentions were for your follow up call. Make the call right away and keep notes on your progress.

Consummate networkers are always looking for ways to improve their networking skills and results. Little changes can add up to big results, so review your networking strategies on a regular basis to be sure that you are getting the desired results.

Track your success. Review your sales on a regular basis and evaluate what is working best for you. Activities that are not producing results should be dropped from your schedule.

Know who you are looking for. Make a list of the companies you like to have as clients or individuals you’d like to meet. Review the list in the car just before you walk into the networking function. You should also include a couple of business categories you are particularly interested in. The more you program yourself to be specific as to what you are looking for, the more likely you are to recognize it when you see it. Set goals. You don’t have to meet everyone in the room, but it is important to hold yourself accountable to attain your objectives. You want to leave with business cards of contacts you’d like to set up meetings with, not reams of business cards from people you know nothing about.

Be flexible. It’s important to set your goals, establish your procedures and stick with them, but it’s also important to stay flexible. Don’t be afraid to try new things. Pick up a new publication, attend a new event, join a committee or volunteer to help a charity. You never know where you might stumble upon a niche market! Networking can be fun as well as profitable. Improve your networking game by attending Chamber events designed to maximize your efforts. Open House Coffees, Money Makers and One on One 101 presentations are all geared to help members get the most out of the Chamber and the networking opportunities it offers. Check the Chamber schedule and plan your schedule around your networking goals. Your efforts plus the Chamber’s support are a winning combination!

The #1 Rule for Growing Your Business: Follow Up, Follow Up, Follow Up Once you’ve been to a Chamber networking event and collected business cards, you are ready for the most important part – follow up. If you do that well, you are way ahead of the game, since this is where most people drop the ball. Personal phone calls are best, but if you are having trouble getting in touch with someone, don’t doom them to a never- ending game of phone tag. Send them an e-mail.

Dear ______________, It was great meeting you at the recent Chamber event. I’d love to set up an appointment to get together and see if we can help each other grow our businesses. I’m available either next Tuesday (insert date) at noon or we could meet for a cup of coffee on Wednesday (insert date) anytime between 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. What works best for you? To make our meeting as productive as possible, it would be great if you could bring along a Top Ten List, a list of ten companies you are looking for contacts in or business categories that you are looking for clients in. Chances are, I will know someone that will be a useful contact for you and this will help us identify them sooner. I’ll also bring a list and maybe you’ll know someone at one of the companies. If not, no problem! I’m mainly interested in learning more about your company. Then, if one of my contacts needs your product or service, I’ll be able to send you a referral. I’ll plan on us spending about 45 minutes to an hour together, and I’ll also bring along some information on my company. I’m looking forward to learning more about you and a fun and productive meeting. Sincerely,

Experts agree that appropriate follow-up is a critical ingredient to building a profitable relationship with a potential customer or client. It demonstrates your level of business ethics and personal commitment to excellence. It also gives that prospect the assurance that the same level of professionalism will continue after the sale is complete. Most importantly, it provides them the comfort level they need to refer you to their own contacts. Once you have a consistent flow of referrals coming from happy clients, your business will grow proportionately. It’s the best possible scenario for building a powerful network and provides you with referrals for your important contacts, too.

The ABCs of Exhibit Marketing By Anne Barron, CME, President, ABComm US Inc.

Here are some helpful tips if you are planning to participate in the upcoming THRIVE Health and Wellness Expo July 14 (or any other similar industry event). Plan for success. It takes time to get ready for these events. Allocate the appropriate time, money and resources before, during and after the event. Set SMART objectives for yourself, your organization and your team members: Specific, Measureable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely. Ask yourself: a) “Why am I going to this show?” b) “What do I want to have happen?” c) “How will I make it happen?” d) “How will I know I was successful or not?” Design your tabletop display or booth. It should pass the Granny test. Granny should be able to quickly tell you what company you work for and what you do. Can your display or graphics do that? It should be functional. Form follows function. What do want to do within your space? Demonstrate! This will be especially important at this event. Demos should be short (2 – 3 minutes). Think about what visitors could do while they are waiting to participate in your demo. Suggestions: Have them complete a form providing contact information. Chat with them. Set a time for them to come back. If you can, design your demonstration to educate in an entertaining manner. What can you do to make your demonstration memorable? Promote your presence. People don’t just show up magically at these events. • Invite them! Send (email) invitations. Announce your participation on your website. Put an announcement on all email signatures. Be sure to update your voicemail “Visit us as the Health & Wellness Expo, July 14, admission is FREE! We’d love to see you there!” If you have a storefront, put up a flyer or poster at your reception desk or in your window inviting people to the event. • Encourage people to stop by your booth at the event. Perhaps offer a small gift or draw to attract visitors. Try to associate your gift with your business. You want your customers to keep/use the gift so they will think of you when they need your service. • Follow-up after the event by email or phone, and thank everyone for visiting you at the event. Enter all contact information into your database for future follow-up. Leads. Have a place to easily record all lead information, not just contact information. Takes notes on what interested them. What specific product/service were they interested in? Prioritize your leads (A, B, C) so that you can quickly follow-up and close important sales.

Limit Literature & Gifts. Save yourself money and headache and leave your literature at home! Keep a small supply (25 copies) on hand and only give out to people whom you have qualified. Before giving it to them, offer to mail it or email them after the show. Then they have to give you their contact information. Do the same with gifts. You don’t have to give a gift to everybody. If you can’t afford lots of gifts, consider having a draw prize where people have to provide their contact information to qualify. Train Staff. Staff should be trained to engage and qualify all visitors for follow up after the event. Choose people who like meeting other people to staff your booth. They should be able to ascertain: e) What product/service are visitors interested in? f) When do they plan to purchase? g) What is their budget? h) Who will make the final purchase decision? i) What other companies are they considering?

The Health and Wellness Expo will be an exciting event for exhibitors and visitors alike. To ensure your presence is fun and profitable, follow the above tips. If you properly plan for your participation you and your staff can Relax, Smile and have FUN throughout the day.
