Tools for Success Seminar Social Media: What do I do Now? Social networking is creating quite a buzz in the business world. The recent Chamber Breakfast, sponsored by The Palm Beach Post, outlined some of the possibilities for business development via the internet. Attendees of our most recent Tools for Success Seminar discovered how to harness the power of Social Media to build their brand and increase awareness online. Facilitated by Jody Underhill and Eric Kurit of Upside Down Iceberg, the presentation attracted a great crowd, reflecting the desire by Chamber members to know more about this amazing phenomenon. Attendees learned how to Positioning yourself as an Expert in your field used to be an expensive undertaking; now, it just takes a little time to put together a 1-2 minute video, submit it to several free video sharing sites, and you can be found online in numerous places.

If you are more inclined to share your expertise in writing, online articles and blogging are the way to go. You can distribute these works to numerous free sites to build your presence online.


o optimize media time. While some look at sites like Facebook and Twitter as time wasters, there are insider secrets on how to use these two biggest Social Media sites to maximize the exposure of your business and how they have built huge followings for themselves and their clients.

There is a definite technique to writing messages that are limited to 140 characters in such a way that it compels the reader to click on a link to your video, article or blog.

One of the biggest questions among the audience was, “How much time will this take?” The answer was surprising. One of the biggest innovations in Social Media is the ability to automate the distribution of your information across multiple sites.

What is an Ambassador?

New Chairs for Ambassador Committee

As the Chamber’s public relations committee, the Ambassadors perform many important tasks for the Chamber. Most importantly, they help recruit and retain members, assisting the Chamber in meeting its membership goals for the year.

As the Ambassador Committee bids farewell to current Chair David Randell, they welcome the two new CoChairs, William Brasmar and Kenneth Cunningham.

Ambassador Call-A-Thons

Call-A-Thons are scheduled at strategic times throughout the year to help bring in new members. Ambassadors invite prospective new members to events as special guests and answer questions about the Chamber.

Welcome New Members

Ambassadors are special guests at New Member Jump Starts, where they share their experiences with new members to give them ideas as to which of the many benefits of membership will be most effective for them.

Event Support

Ambassadors help attendees find seating assignments and name tags and facilitate introductions.

Ribbon-Cuttings

Ambassadors appear in Ribbon-Cutting photos, tour member facilities and spread the word about the hosts’ companies. Special name tags make Ambassadors prominent at Chamber events. You’ll find them welcoming attendees, making sure everyone is comfortable and finding the contacts they are looking for. Need some help? Ask an Ambassador! They are among the Chamber’s most active and involved members. They’ll share their success stories and give advice, provide introductions and direction. David Randell, of David R. Randell Photographics, joined the Chamber in 1999 and became a member of the Ambassador Committee in 2003. He eventually became Chair, where his magnetic personality gave the committee great energy and momentum. It grew into one of the most productive committees in the Chamber and positioned itself as a group of “movers and shakers.” David helped create and implement the criteria currently used to establish and maintain Ambassador status, which has proven to be very successful and aided in the committee’s growth and development. Like David, William and Kenneth are successful entrepreneurs. William is the president of KPA Promotions, Inc. and has been a Chamber member for almost three years. Kenneth is the owner of the Gold Coast Financial Group, LLC and has been with the Chamber nearly seven years. Both of these gentlemen can be seen at almost every networking event and volunteer activity. Making introductions and assisting Chamber staff, they are truly an asset to the Chamber and its members. The Chamber thanks David for his dedicated leadership and congratulates William and Kenneth on their appointments as Co-Chairs.

Connection Ambassador Happenings The Ambassadors have a jam-packed schedule for the upcoming month of March. Aside from their normal meetings and ribbon-cuttings, they will be conducting their quarterly Call-AThon at the beginning of the month. During that event, they will call prospective Chamber members, speak to them regarding the many benefits of joining the Chamber and invite them to an Ambassador Happy Hour. This will give the prospective members time to network with one another and receive guidance from the knowledgeable Ambassadors. The invitation-only Ambassador Happy Hour is scheduled to take place at the end of March and will be hosted by STORE Self-Storage and Wine Storage, a beautiful five-star wine and storage facility that was recently named the best storage facility in the United States. Cleveland Clinic CityPlace Hosts Chamber Events Cleveland Clinic was the site for a very successful February event attended by members of the Health Care Committee and invited guests. Jill Burgess and the Cleveland Clinic staff were wonderful hosts, sharing their beautiful new facility, time and expertise. Dr. Laurence Beck, Medical Director of the West Palm Beach Health & Wellness Center, narrated a presentation about Cleveland Clinic’s history, today’s status and direction, and some detail regarding the new 4,000 square foot expansion at the CityPlace Tower location.

The Clinic will also host a reception for the Chamber’s Trustees on Wednesday, March 24th. The Chamber’s Trustee Program is an executive level networking group within the Chamber. This will give the Trustees the opportunity to tour the state-of-the-art facility and enjoy a great networking event with their fellow Trustees. New Director And Research Leaders To Join Max Planck Florida Institute The Max Planck Florida Institute has announced appointments to three scientific positions at the research facility. Dr. Michael D. Ehlers of Duke University Medical Center will be named Scientific Director and CEO; Dr. Samuel M. Young, Jr. will lead a research group focused on molecular neurobiology; and Dr. Jason Christie will lead a research group studying synapse physiology.

Hedrick Brothers Construction Selected For Boys & Girls Club Building Project Hedrick Brothers Construction has been selected as the contractor for the new Riviera Beach Boys & Girls Club, renamed The Max Boys & Girls Club, located at 200 West 13th Street in Riviera Beach. The new state-of-theart facility will grow to 23,000 SF and allow for the children to have expanded services including a learning center, arts and crafts center, science lab, teen center, dance studio, dining area, full gymnasium, game rooms and office space. Ocampo & Associates is the architect for the project. Completion is scheduled for fall, 2010.

Bash Hits It Out of the Ballpar The Chamber held its annual Spring Training event at Roger Dean Stadium. Players from the Florida Marlins and St. Louis Cardinals signed pennants, baseball cards and memorabilia for the baseball enthusiasts from the field. The Cardinals new Hitting Coach, Mark McGwire, stayed late to sign autographs for fans. After the autographs, it was off to the party deck for a delicious meal from Carrabba’s Italian Grill – North Palm Beach, including Chicken Marsala and Penne Pompadore. TooJay’s Gourmet Deli donated sweet treats for dessert and unique edible centerpieces. Master of Ceremonies William E. Pruitt got the evening’s program started. Michael Hill, Vice President/General Manager of the Florida Marlins, introduced Manager Fredi Gonzalez, who has guided the club to two consecutive winning seasons, as well as second-place finish in the NL east last year. The system is sure to churn out more hidden talent this season, with Logan Morrison and Michael Stanton getting serious consideration. Chris Coghlan, the reining National League Rookie of the Year, and Hanley Ramirez will lead a hard-hitting Marlins offense that welcomes the return of second baseman Dan Uggla. The Marlins are building for the future as the club looks to move into their state-of-the-art ballpark in 2012.

rk St. Louis Cardinals VP/General Manager John Mozeliak, who signed slugger Matt Holliday to the biggest contract in Cardinals history in January and Albert Pujols, who led the National League in batting average, together with Cy Young contenders Chris Carpenter and Adam Wainwright on the mound, come to spring Training with high expectations. Manager Tony LaRussa, who begins his 15th season as Cardinals manager and is the winningest manager in Cardinals history, said “Any year that you are involved with Major League Baseball, your excitement level is very high, but when you have a legitimate chance to play in October, the excitement, at its highest, goes to another level.” Alice Patrick from Missouri was the high bidder for the St. Louis Cardinals autographed jersey and Andrew Kartiganer was the high bidder for the Florida Marlins autographed jersey. Chamber Welcomes New Trustee Daniel F. Martell

Daniel Martell joined Florida Crystals Corporation as Vice President of Real Estate in January 2007. His responsibilities include overseeing corporate land development and real estate investments. Prior to joining Florida Crystals Corporation, Mr. Martell was East Coast Land Acquisitions Manager for WCI Communities, in which Mr. Martell oversaw all potential new acquisitions for WCI‘s homebuilding operations along the East Coast of Florida. Prior to WCI, Mr. Martell was Land Development and Acquistion Director for Sunland Homes in Jupiter, Florida. In this capacity, Mr. Martell was responsible for acquisition, entitlement, and construction of all land development projects for the company. Mr. Martell began his career as the Director of Government and Political Affairs for the Gold Coast Builders Association, where he was responsible for the regulatory and political issues confronting the home building industry in Palm Beach and Broward counties. He received his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Florida, and Juris Doctor from the Shepard Broad Law Center at Nova Southeastern University. Mr. Martell is a member of the strategic planning committee and Board of Directors at St. Marks Episcopal Church and School. He is past Vice President of Government Affairs and Executive Committee Member for Gold Coast Builders Association, member of the Board of Directors for the Florida Home Builders Association, Housing Leadership Council of Palm Beach County, and the Economic Council of the Palm Beaches.

Leadership West Palm Beach Enjoys Western Communities Day

On Wednesday, February 3, the 2010 Class of Leadership West Palm Beach embarked upon Western Communities Day, which began at Fire Station 7 on Okeechobee Boulevard. After a presentation by Fire Chief Phil Webb and demonstration of a car extrication by firefighters, the group proceeded to enjoy a tour of the Waste Water Treatment Plant. The class then received presentations by several guest speakers about pertinent issues facing the western communities during lunch (sponsored by The Morganti Group, Inc.) at Ibis Golf & Country Club. The day’s activities concluded with airboat rides and a tour of the Grassy Waters Preserve. YPOP Committee Plans Upcoming Events On Wednesday, February 10th, 18 YPOP members met at the Chamber of Commerce of the Palm Beaches to brainstorm and plan upcoming activities.

Future YPOP events: March 3, 2010 YPOP hosted a Financial and Tax Planning Seminar presented by Scott Shrader, owner and manager of several Liberty Tax locations. March 16 will be the March HotSpot April 2010 will host a YPOP Showcase event. This exciting event will feature YPOP members and their businesses.

In May 2010, YPOP will participate in Relay for Life, which is being held in beautiful dow Beach’s Meyer Amphitheater. This will start 6:30pm May 21st and last until 10:00am May

On February 24, the first Taste of CityPlace event was held at B.B. Kings and YPOP was excited to be a part of the festivities.
