The discovery of « The Queen of Sulphur » spring in the 19th century changed the fate of this small village that experienced an increased fame with the golden age of balneology. This visit allows you to enter the thermal establishment where the most sulphurated water in Europe, rare and precious, disseminates its therapeutic virtues. The wander among parks and buildings steeped in history ends at the Château of the Counts of Challes, where turrets and chimneys are evidence of the past of this seigneurial residence dating from the 15th century. CHAMBERY TREASURES: THE CASTLE AND THE OLD TOWN Go and explore the City of the Dukes. The former capital of the States of Savoy reveals its secrets to those who dare explore beyond the main streets. Follow the guide through the castle : he will tell you the history of the counts and the dukes who ordered its construction. You will reach the Sainte Chapelle, where their unions with the biggest royal families of their time were celebrated, under the light of the Renaissance stained-glass window. Along the paths, the guide will lead from squares to interior courtyards. Behind the facades hide a thousand picturesque details: spiral staircases in the houses of the « chambérienne » nobility, wrought iron decor, 19th century and contemporary trompe-l’œil. « GRAND CARILLON » CONCERT! Chambery is certainly the only town to offer groups the possibility of brightening up their visits with a carillon concert! Located in Yolande Tower, which flanks the chevet of the Holy Chapel of the castle, the Grand Carillon was built in 1993. With its 70 bells, it is the largest collection of bells in France, and is one of the eight largest in the world. The museum of Fine Arts of Chambery presents a mostly Italian collection spanning from the end of the Middle Ages to the beginning of the 20th century. It also exposes works allowing visitors to understand the history of the arts in Savoie throughout the centuries. JEAN-JACQUES ROUSSEAU’S HOUSE
Jean-Jacques Rousseau stayed in the Charmettes valley with Madame de Warens between 1736 and 1742.
