More and more popular: From a single Olympic event in 1960, biathlon now has six. Its popularity is growing, to the point of being a national sport in Germany, Russia and Scandinavia. In France, interest in the sport increased after the women's relay team won the gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Winter Games. Biathlon is now France's leading medalwinning sport at the Olympic Winter Games. Thanks to the performances of its stars Raphaël Poirée (now retired) and Martin Fourcade, the sport is attracting more and more followers. To respond to this demand Savoie Grand Revard’s offering is complete, due to the size and quality of its Nordic domain, its biathlon stadium and the beginners’ sessions that are available.

For our youngest beginners the ESF has created LASER BIATHLON Biathlon has become accessible to all thanks to laser rifle equipment.

OUR

SKIJORING, TROIKA OR HORSE

FAVOURITES

Alice, a true devotee, chose a site in the middle of the magnificent plateau of Féclaz to create her equestrian centre, where you can discover the area skijoring, on horseback (on snow) or in authentic Russian or Polish sleds. The centre has a 300m speed ring, a secure school for beginners from the age of 6 years old and access to many wilderness routes through forests and pastures. You can try a 20 minute skijoring discovery session on the plateau during which the guide holds the horse, or a 45 minute initiation session alternating between the plateau, the forest and the speed ring. Whether in a troïka, on a horse or skijoring, 3 hacks are possible. The longest is half a day and is a panoramic circular route, with breathtaking views of the Belledonne Chain and the Massif des Bauges. It alternates between the huge snowy expanse of the plateau, the forest and the speed ring. On horseback or skijoring, the ride is adapted to individuals, with the choice of a simple walk or something more athletic focused on speed or manoeuvrability.

SNOWSHOEING FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO TAKE IT A LITTLE MORE SLOWLY... Among the 60kms of snowshoeing trails in the area, we mustn’t forget the unmissable trail to the Cross of Nivolet at 1558m altitude with breathtaking views of Mont Blanc, the Chartreuse and the Belledonne Chain . Something unexpected is waiting for you at the top: Lunérus, a small metal robot (erected at the end of the 1960s to commemorate the launch of the 1st satellites to conquer the moon).

•T he Bauges Observatory : Once night has fallen, the dome opens and slowly pivots to allow the telescope to point to the most beautiful visible objects in the sky that night. We can see the craters of the Moon, the rings of Saturn, the nebulae, galaxies and clusters of the brightest stars.

•A 360° digital fixed planetarium can accommodate 30 to 35 people for sessions lasting between 20 minutes and 1 hour. It works during the day and in the evening, whatever the weather conditions. So you can still see stars at Saint Francis de Sales. •T he planet trail : An hour to snowshoe through the solar system with the 8 planets and the sun to scale! www.randonnees-astronomie.com

The magic of winter and its constellated sky...

D STAR FILLE EVENINGS

This is what we can discover at the Bauges Observatory with a programme full of surprises. The evening begins with snowshoeing on the plateau des Creusâtes, with its Nordic landscapes. The glow from the sunset gives us light. Back at the Observatory, we warm up around a traditional mountain meal before opening the domes. First, the planetarium, for a 360° exploration of the sky, then the telescope for an unforgettable vision of the most beautiful stars visible that night.
