Glulam Beams Glulam beams are being used for a variety of construction purposes where strength and clear unsupported spans are key factors. Beams are manufactured using timber laminations of Whitewood Spruce bonded together with waterproof and weather resistant glue. As a result Glulam beams • can be curved to shape during manufacture • have strength properties twice that of standard timber • are lightweight yet have superior strength to weight ratio over structural steel • are fire-resistant - fire self extinguishes itself unless beam exposed to direct flame • have good insulation properties unlike steel • can be machined on site with normal hand and power tools Can be delivered direct to site Rectangular Glulam

Champion Timber – a reputation for quality and service Champion is well known in the trade for supplying the best quality timber. Combine that quality with consistency of supply and then add excellent customer service we endeavour to save you time and money while you produce outstanding results. For our Softwood Mouldings we do not buy our timber from wholesalers or importers, instead we select prime grade, slow grown Redwood Pine, and buy direct from the sawmills in Norway & Sweden. After importing it direct to our mill in Edenbridge we further grade and machine it. This process means we keep a tight control over the supply, quality and consistency of our timber. Our selected Redwood Pine softwood gives you strength and stability for excellent cutting, shaping and appearance • The low knot content reduces preparation time and wastage. • Every piece of timber is kiln dried so it is less likely to warp. • Our machining produces a super-smooth finish. And as we get a continuous supply we never run out of stock. Also, because there are no middlemen it means we give you the very best timber at a reasonable price.

No one stocks a larger range of mouldings than us anywhere in the country. Many of our Period mouldings are based on authentic original designs confirmed by research at the Victoria & Albert Museum. Some are more than 150 years old. We have a range of modern 21st century mouldings too. If you are looking to match an existing moulding or looking for something inspirational you will be hard-pushed not to find what you are looking for in this catalogue. It is because of our wide range and high quality that Champion mouldings are specified on buildings up and down the country.

Champion & the Environment We take our environmental responsibilities seriously and are careful to verify that our sources meet the highest standards. When timber is purchased responsibly it is actually the most eco-friendly building material available. It does not require huge amounts of energy to create (like bricks and concrete) and creating buildings from timber actually locks in carbon from the atmosphere. We use rigorous verification systems to monitor our supplies. We have chain of Custody Certification for the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). Our suppliers are also independently audited for the Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP) of the Timber Trade Federation and Forests Forever. Please ask us for details of our environmentally certified products.

Champion Innovations that make your life easier

No. 1 The Relief and Glue Groove

Take a look at the back of our larger single-sided skirtings and architraves and you will see a special groove. This groove increases the dimensional stability of the moulding while also acting as a channel into which you can apply adhesives like Gripfill. Using this groove to apply adhesive means you get a closer fit to the wall.

No. 2 The Bevelled Bottom

Bevelled bottoms are used on our single-sided skirtings because they give a much tighter floor to wall fit, especially where there is difficult to remove corner debris. Please note – the Relief Groove and Bevelled Bottom are not illustrated in the mouldings shown further on.

Larch Shiplap Capclad

Thermowood is created by steam heating Scandinavian Redwood Softwood in a kiln. No chemicals are used. During the heat process moisture and resin is driven out from the core of the wood, which when combined with other chemical and structural changes that naturally occur during steam heating, result in a product with enhanced physical properties over normal untreated softwood. Thermowood is therefore • 50% more stable – resulting in less shrinkage, swelling and distortion • very durable and low maintenance – requires no preservative treatment yet has a service life up to 30 years. No resin bleed, a major cause of paint surface degradation • water, rot, decay and fungi resistant • 20-25% better in thermal performance • easy to work and lightweight • environmentally friendly – no chemicals are used, and its PEFC certificated The natural colour of Thermowood Shiplap is similar to Western Red Cedar. This can be left to naturally grey in the sunlight, or to maintain a colour and surface resistance to algae, decorate with naturally pigmented wood oils or a wood decorative stain such as Sadolins, all of which are available from Champion. The two Batten/Cornerings are reversible i.e. two planed faces and two fine sawn faces.
