Jagriti is a joint initiative by 18minus and the Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC) to celebrate the future of the country by heralding the youth and providing them with a platform to express their views, and more importantly, make their voices heard. Jagriti is cemented on the core belief that only way civic apathy can be alleviated is by bilateral engagement with the voters of tomorrow.

Bangalore Political Action Committee (B.PAC) is a citizen's group aiming to improve governance in Bangalore and to enhance the quality of life of every citizen. B.PAC is specifically targeting good governance practices, integrity and transparency in all arms of the government, and the creation of a safer city where the rule of law is ensured for all citizens of Bangalore.

and 18minus 18minus is a student powered platform for the opinions and ideas of the youth to be re c o g n i s e d , t o b e c o n s i d e re d a n d eventually, incorporated into the nation building process. The ultimate aim of 18minus is the establishment of the Bal Sabha, a nation-wide think tank for the proliferation of minors of country.


The following are the leaders and organisations that will be represented at the meeting:

THE YO U TH PA RL IA ME N T

This is a mock parliament event where schools will be allotted a certain prominent political figure in advance. Students will represent these personalities, and defend their policy on the agenda.
 
 Rajneeti is a non-technical yet powerful event introduced in order to emulate political realities by bringing to light various layers of polity and governance in India.
 
 The main purpose of Rajneeti is to ensure that all the participating members come down to consensual solutions with respect to the issues at hand. For which the final document of this Meeting would be solutions in the form of recommendations to the Government to solve the existing issues for which all the parties have arrived at a consensus.

This will be a theatre event where schools have to prepare a dramatic performance for a maximum time of 5 minutes, on a social issue. These performances may include, but are not limited to: ‣ ‣ ‣ ‣

a spoken-word drama or comedy a music, singing and/or dance production a production with movement but no sound (mime) participatory or improvisational techniques using any or all of these

MANDATO RY IN C LU S IO N O F SEX & HEA LTH E D U CAT IO N IN HIG H S CHO O L C U R R IC U LU M ‣ The recommendations drafted will be compiled and submitted to the Bangalore State Assembly and the Ministry of Human Resource Development, as the Voice of the Youth.

THE E VI LS THAT PLAGU E IN DIA N SOCIE TY ‣ A maximum of seven team members are allowed to participate per team. This number is inclusive of any backstage members the team has, if any. ‣ Plays will be judged on stage presence, storyline, utilisation of props (if any), costume and character development. ‣ The top five schools will be selected for the final round, where they will be given a newspaper article. The school will then have to elect one member who will portray a two minute skit relating to the article he/she has been handed. The winners will be calculated on cumulative scores.


A L ET TE R TO T H E P R I M E M IN I STE R

This is a literary event where participants have to compose a letter to the prime minister. On arrival, participants will be given one unique point of view, after which they will have 90 minutes to compose a letter. ‣ These are the perspectives that participants will be writing on:
 Write a Letter to the Prime Minister as: ‣ An unborn girl child. ‣ A traveller stuck in traffic on the potholed roads of a polluted city. ‣ Mahatma Gandhi looking at India 2014. ‣ A patient who can not afford to be treated at expensive private hospitals, and must go to incompetent and understaffed government clinics. ‣ A state hockey player who feels that emphasis and funding is only given to cricket, while other sports are ignored. ‣ A woman who is discriminated financially and socially at her workplace despite performing better than her male co-workers. ‣ A graduate student who has a college degree but is unable to find work for over a year. ‣ A farmer who is afraid of losing out to MNC’s if an international supermarket chain was to be opened in his locality. ‣ A fish in the polluted water of the Ganges.

‣Participants are allowed to bring laptops or other equipment to write on. If they do not have the same, they will be provided with paper and required stationary. Participants are also allowed to access internet for data, but do not that plagiarism will lead to immediate disqualification. ‣Participants will have to write on only one topic, but this is selected by random lots on arrival. It is thus, recommended that participants briefly prepare on all nine topics. ‣Five finalists will be then asked to present their letter on stage, following which will be a question-answer session from the jury and the audience.

This is a cultural and civic quiz testing participants on their knowledge on current affairs, political happenings and city of Bangalore.

‣Each school will send one team comprising 2 members. After a written preliminary, six teams will be selected for the onstage final. ‣The theme of the event is ‘A Greener Tomorrow’, and will features questions which connect directly with environmental sustainability.
