-On December 20, 2019, a fire broke out on the north coast of the island due to lightning strikes.

-On December 30, more lightning strikes occurred on the island, this time in the Ravine des Casoars Wilderness Reserve north of Flinders Chase National Park. The fire destroyed more than one-third of the island’s land, and the fire is threatening the only bush in the western part of the island.

-In January 2020, after a fire swept through the stunning wilderness of South Australia Island, the fire scorched the northern edge of the area.
