THE MEMORY Reconstruction Competition for Quake-hit Village 2013 Aim International Competition, Sichuan, China, 2013

Cooperators:Yulong Li, Puzhao Qiu Tutor: Pro. Miaoxi Zhao .

One of the top 4 winners. Previously a team work which consider various aspects including architecture, planning, policies, landscape, industry,

etc. This is a revised version just showing the concept for re-construction principle

Introduction

In 2008, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake happened in Yaan, resulted in

loss of life, personal injuries, and house damage, which was a disaster

to the Xueshan village. The villagers here need a new start, and so does the village. The most common way for reconstruction is tore down the remained ruins and then build new buildings on the site. In order to preserve the memory of the old village

Mapping

The village is located in Sichuan, China to the west of Baoxing River and to the east of Xueshan Mountain. In 2008, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake happened here, resulted in loss of life, personal injuries, and house damage, which was a disaster to the Xueshan village. The villagers here need a new start, and so does the village.

By mapping the site, we discovered that while most houses were destroyed, some are still available after earthquake, we choose some of the houses and make it the 'memory point' of the village.

02 MELT IN THE HILL Follow the Thyme of Nature XUESHAN Village Activity Center Design 2014, 07-08

This is for a design competition hold by China Foundation

For Poverty Alleviation, an NGO organizaition. The theme of

the competition includes low cost, local building techniques and sustainable building.

Introduction

The site is in a mountainous rural place with beautiful natural sceneries, and the village need a building for village`s public activity. So,the activity center design aimed to combine various

activities with a space reflecting the environment around it ,which can be seen in Chinese ancient landscape paintings, the buildings is melting in the environment and they working to a beautiful painting together. This is just what I pursuit in the architecture design in rural area.By using

natural and traditional elements in the building, villagers can walk through it just like it`s part of the familiar environment they had living with for a long life.

The site is on the cross of the two main axes, one is the road people coming into the village from the foot of the hill, another is public

open space. there are many villages walking through the site everyday. So the activity center design gave two corridors inner the building. One for transportation, one for sight.

Four traditional elements are used in the design, representing four aspects I attempt to emphasize. So the building can combine

the inner with the outside environment. The site was divided into 2 parts . A long narrow space is formed to make a courtyard for outspace activity, the space was designed according to the traditional lane.

Open space activities mainly happened in the courtyard facing to the main entrance from the temple, villagers can have a fist together in open space(tradition). The simple theater and the courtyard can be used for different activities in different hours of the day.

West part of the building is used for some quite activities, like reading room and a tea house open to the environment. East of the 16

building is used for sports activity room or meeting room.

17

Vague

Scenery can change from abstract points to a clear painting with the change of point density. So we tried to use the different density of bamboo to create different atmosphere for the space , the bamboo facade can respond to different function of the building.

03 THE GREEN WALL INSTALLATION Urban Farming Experiment in High Density Communities of Chinese Mega Chities Vertical Green Wall System Design, 2014

Cooperators: Pengwei Xing, Jing Chen, Bohao Geng

Introduction Lacking of greenfield is a main problem in oldtown of Guangzhou, with no more spare land to be made into large parks and public spaces .The GREEN WALL PLAN is an attempt to increase greenfield in downtown by making advantage of the micro space and connect them together to a greennet. The green-net can be transformed into a social-net to improve the interaction in oldtown by proving a farming activity in the public space.

Sankt Markus Church Vision for the renovation of the outside area Client: Sankt Markus Kirke, Sankt Markus Allé 8, 1922 Frederiksberg C, Sognepræst Jesper Mønsted (Kirkeværge) Cooperators: Oliver Schulze, Julie Linke Bank, Chang Liu, Hailey Mackay

Introduction

Frederiksberg's architectural landmarks, St. Mark's Church, was built in 1900. The church is one of the few Danish examples of detached cross churches, and constitutes an essential part of an urban axis consisting of buildings and public spaces.

The vision proposes a renovation of open space around the church in order to create a new hub facing Julius Thomsen Square, while upgrading the streets and sidewalks of Forchhammersvej and Sankt Markus Allé. The project seeks to turn a non-place dominated by through traffic for a focal point for dialogue, contemplation and special events for both the church and society.

Key Challenges:

1. Church entrance facing the wrong way

The church will benefit from its close location to Julius Thomsen Square. The inclusion of the space at the church back side can

Frederiksberg Studenterkursus contribute to a large outdoor space, which makes it possible to gather before and after sermons in a better optimized and scaled space cut off from the motor-vehicle traffic and parked cars. 2. Church surrounding open space is of poor quality

The coating is poor quality and inadequate in several places around the church. Parked cars dominate the space, and results in an
