WHO WE ARE

WHO WE ARE MosaĂŻque Surface specializes in custom stone mosaics. Our experienced team creates original and intricate murals, medallions, floors, table tops, and proposes a large variety of borders and field patterns. Recognized in the industry as a customer-oriented company, we deliver top quality products at competitive prices for both the commercial and residential markets. We offer a wide range of materials and finishes as well as being extremely flexible in executing specific design projects. We started as a small artisanal studio nested in the heart of Montreal, Canada. We now have nearly a hundred employees working hard at ensuring that our products reflect our high quality standards. We implemented waterjet cutting technology several years ago; this enables production of very complex shapes that were previously difficult to achieve with traditional stone cutting tools. This allowed us to innovatively create a wide range of design patterns, applying traditional essences to sleek modern lines. After 20 years in the industry, we constantly pushed the boundaries of solid surfacing with our innovative collections, including the new Manhattan Collection, which features our newest addition to our materials offering, the Venetian Glass. ELEMENTS OF DESIGN | 13

ELEMENTS OF DESIGN The creative process behind each design can be quite extensive; therefore in order to make the client’s selection process as easy as possible we have created already a large selection of design options. Each design usually comes with a field that can often be available in up to 3 or 4 scales, borders of various widths, continuous and block corners. Also remember that you can always customise the scales of each of these to better fit the desired area you want to cover. ORDER PROCESS PART 1

ORDER PROCESS PART 1 STEP 1 > DESIGN DECISIONS

STEP 2 > ORDER PLACEMENT

At the beginning of a custom project, a lot of brainstorming is required, and certain decisions must be made. ❶ Choose the design. Select one of our existing patterns or decorative pieces or share with us the images that are your source of inspiration and that you would like us to reinterpret. ❷ Specify your project's dimensions. ❸ Select colors and finishes. You can request a color rendering to help you confirm your selection. Drawing fees apply for color renderings. ❹ Request a quote from our sale representative. The sale rep will assist you in achieving what you want within your budget, by providing suggestions and options and preparing for any possible contigencies. ❺ Samples can be supplied upon request to ensure correct design, color choices, color shading, and finishes.

Once all design decisions have been made and you are ready to order, our production management team will ensure that all information is cleary given in the quotation documents. Confirm dimensions. As it is a custom project, the stone design will be cut to the exact shape. We will ask you to confirm the dimensions or to send us a template, if available. ❷ Approve the final CAD drawing. Our technical team will complete an AutoCAD line drawing based on dimensions provided and design specifications. This line drawing must always be approved by the client, signed for confirmation, and returned to Mosaïque Surface prior to the subsequent steps. ❸ Cutting preparations. Once the drawing is approved by the client, technical specifications on colors, finishes, and piece sizes for mosaic and waterjet-cut pieces are transmitted to our cutting department. In most cases, programming of waterjet cutting has to be performed. ❹ Printing of real-size (1:1 scale) drawings. Our technical team prints real-size drawings upon which the work will be assembled, double checks the dimensions, and lays out the project in the workshop. ❶

ORDER PROCESS PART 2 | 15

ORDER PROCESS PART 2 STEP 3 >

All stone tiles are cut directly in our shop.

STONE CUTTING

❶ STONE SELECTION Based on the technical information sent by the production management, each stone tile is selected according to the color, finish and quantity required for the project. We always verify that stones are all calibrated and that the shading of the stone is well balanced. ❷ MOSAIC CUTS

For mosaic projects, all tiles are mechanically cut to the appropriate starting dimensions.

❸ WATERJET CUTS

Once the shapes have been computer programmed, each tile is cut to produce individual pieces. Pieces that are fairly large are covered with a protective membrane so as to prevent any damage during cutting and transportation between departments.

STEP 4 >

Now that the stone cutting is completed, the design is ready to be produced. Our artists gather around the 1:1-scale drawings and prepare the art work.

WORKSHOP PRODUCTION

❶ FOR MOSAIC PROJECTS Each tessera is selected and individually hand cut as required to fit patterns, then placed carefully on the drawing. The whole process can easily take 2-3 hours per square foot. Our talented artists are remarkably patient and perform very intricate works with incredible passion. ❷ MOSAIC CUTS

Each piece is numbered and placed on the drawing as in a jigsaw puzzle. Numbering is required, because even though the puzzle may comprise as few as two different pieces, it could just as easily be made up of as many as 50 different pieces.

❸ ASSEMBLY PREPARATION

Once the design is completed, adhesive tissue is applied to the entire surface of the project to ensure the stone pieces are immobilized. Cut lines are then drawn on the surface of the adhesive tissue so that the project's contours can then be cut to the exact specifications. The project is then cut up into smaller sections in preparation for the gluing process.

ORDER PROCESS PART 3

ORDER PROCESS PART 3 STEP 5 >

All our mosaic sheets are mesh-backed in order to ensure an easy installation.

SETTING & SHIPPING

❶ MESH SETTING All sections are placed upside down and ready for back mesh glue application. ❷ PROJECT VERIFICATION

Once the mesh is dry, the project is placed on the floor right side up in one full piece for final verification of the custom dimensions. Quality control ensures that no pieces are damaged at the end of the production process. if any pieces are broken, chipped, or do not conform to Mosaïque Surface's quality standards, they are replaced.

❸ PACKAGING

Each section is carefully packaged. Printed drawings are placed on each box to identify all sections contained in the box. All boxes are shipped on pallets to ensure stability during transportation.

STEP 6> CUSTOM PROJECT INSTALLATION

Your project has arrived and is ready to be installed. ❶ INSTALLATION PLAN Mosaïque Surface does not offer installation services, but helps you by providing an installation drawing. ❷ INSTALLATION GUIDE

Certain steps are recommended prior to installation. An installation guide is provided in each box. Mosaïque Surface is not responsible for the installation. Installation implies acceptance of the order: once products are installed, there can be no claims for damage, reimbursement or return of any items.

❸ GROUT COLOR

Certain designs already have a specific grout color. For a custom project with stone color variations, we can help you choose the right grout color upon request. If desired, please ask us prior shipment of order.

GENERAL GUIDELINES 1

GENERAL GUIDELINES 1 STONE & GLASS MATERIAL

We source most of our stones directly from quarries and/or manufacturers. Our products are manufactured from first quality selected tiles which are calibrated at 3/8’’ thick. Our strict buying guidelines ensure high quality and overall consistency in thickness.

MESH BACKING

All of our mosaic products are mesh mounted which makes it much faster and easier to install. In addition to the mesh backing, most of our product are packaged face taped, providing more stability during freight and installation.

PRODUCTION TIME

Lead times vary depending on the size and complexity of the project. Our usual lead time is 6 to 8 weeks for an average custom mosaic order and between 5 to 7 weeks for mosaic sheets and patterns.

IN-HOUSE DESIGN SERVICES

To help dealers and their clients visualize final designs, Mosaïque Surface offers CAD line drawing and color rendering services at $75 per hour. To assist dealers in making their sales, Mosaïque Surface can supply them with small color charts for presentations. We can adapt your design to almost any shape and size. Design and color rendering fees are not deductible on a future order.

CUSTOM FIT ORDERS

An extra fee applies to most orders that require a custom fit. The fee varies, depending on the pattern and the size of the project. The followings are included for all custom fit orders:

REQUESTS FOR QUOTES

The following information must be included with every request for a quote. Any information that has been omitted will delay our response to you. Please e-mail or fax all requests for quotes. E-mail: info@mosaiquesurface.com Fax: (514) 524-6328 1) Product code, name of the design. 2) Size and/or quantity required. 3) A plan with exact measurements if the project requires a continuous running border or a custom wall-to-wall mosaic. AutoCad files can be e-mailed. 4) Color placement on a sketch of the mosaic item. If your request is sent by fax, please use a black and white drawing rather than a picture otherwise it becomes illegible when faxed. 5) Finish: polished, tumbled or honed. 6) Add any other pertinent information to help us quote your project. Quotes are valid for 3 months. All documents and images related to quotes are destroyed after 6 months.

SAMPLES AND STRIKE-OFF PIECES SAMPLE:

· Ordered for your clients to approve before they decide to place an entire order. · Only meant to give a general sense of a mosaic pattern, stone shades & finish. · We do not guarantee availability of the same lots of stones if an order is placed based on an approved sample. STRIKE-OFF: · Ordered for your clients to approve prior to starting production of an order. The entire order has been placed and is non cancellable. · Fabricated using specific lots of stones. · Material is allocated to the production of the order during 10 business days from shipping date after which we can no longer guarantee availability.

· Design services if needed. · Black and white line drawing on AutoCad for approval. · The order is fabricated directly on a plan at full scale. · The mosaic sections are pre-cut at required custom dimensions and ready to install on site. · The project is mesh-mounted as one piece and cut into sections afterwards. · The mosaic sections are numbered and identified on an installation plan. · A plan is attached on each box and sections contained in each box highlighted on the plan.

Samples and strike-offs are not representative of an entire order. The final product may slightly vary in color and texture which are inherent of natural stones.

The advantages of ordering custom fit surpass the extra cost. The followings are arguments you can use as selling points to explain the extra cost of a custom fit to your clients:

A PURCHASE ORDER IS REQUIRED FOR ALL SAMPLES. Your P.O.# Serve as a reference # to track samples.

· The extra fee includes the 10 to 15% waste factor recommended. You order based on the area to cover only, no need to buy more material. · Significant savings on the installation process as it will take much less time to install. · Reduces the risk of misfit and errors at installation which prevents disappointing results.

· Presentation: Samples can be supplied, either mesh mounted or grouted on plywood. · Size: Depends on the design chosen or your specific requirements. · Cost: Cost is based on the design, colors, finish and size. If an order is placed for additional pieces, Mosaïque Surface cannot be held responsible for color mismatch, since the stones used may come from a different lot. To avoid this scenario, dealers must send a sample piece for matching. All of our products being custom-made, no returns will be accepted in this regard.

Mosaïque Surface

For all P.O. received, we send an order confirmation with an ESD by fax. * If you have not received your order confirmation after two (2) business days, please call our customer service department to verify that we did receive your P.O. Otherwise, you will be asked to confirm the missing information and/or approve, sign and return the document as soon as possible. An ESD will then be confirmed to you. A P.O. without a confirmed ESD remains on hold. No stock is allocated for its fabrication (with the exception of the orders that are going through the strike-off process). The order is not included in the schedule of production. No work begins until all the requested information has been provided which delays production and extends the lead time.

Once an order is ready to ship, Mosaïque Surface automatically ships to the “ship to” address appearing on the P.O. When the address is missing from the P.O., dealers are notified and have up to 10 business days to confirm the shipping address, after which the order is billed and directly shipped to the dealer’s warehouse or showroom. Our warehouse space is limited, we can not store “ready-to- ship” orders for more than 10 days.

STONES & MOSAIC

LOOSE MOSAIC MODULES (not custom fit)

NOTICE TO CUSTOMER & INSTALLER

The installation of this mosaic project requires a qualified and experienced installer that excels at stone custom installation work. The mosaic material was carefully packed and thoroughly inspected before leaving the factory. Client and installer should inspect and approve all materials prior to installation. Client should supervise and approve every step of the realization as installation signifies acceptance. No claims or return will be accepted once material is installed. If installation is delayed, store all packages in a dry and cool space, away from the direct sunlight, in a constant temperature 40-75 °F and remove face tape.

TAPE ON THE FACE SIDE OF THE MOSAIC

Although all material is mesh mounted, most of the mosaics are also packaged face taped to provide extra stability and protection during freight, handling and installation. For inspection and approval purposes prior to installation, we highly recommend to randomly pick several modules and gently remove the tape from the surface. This preventive inspection of materials will enable the installer to prepare necessary installation procedures. Once approved, put back the tape on the inspected modules and do not remove it from the other modules prior to installation. Avoid walking on the tape or exposing it to direct sunlight as it may become hard to remove after the installation.

TOOLS

MATERIAL

THIN-SET METHOD OF INSTALLATION Dry set mortar (ANSI A 118.1) or Latex-Portland cement (ANSI A 118.4) Grout (ANSI A 118.6) Water Compatible waterproofing membrane

Select white mortar compatible to the substrate. Select grout compatible with mortar & unsanded for polished of honed finish. Potable and free of iron. If waterproof installation required.

· Lay dry the mosaic sections in the exact space they will be installed. · Make sure to respect the integrity of the overall pattern before deciding the sections to be cut, where it will be cut and how it impacts the design. Ideally, patterns should be centered and even on each side while borders should connect nicely at angles. · Have the customer confirm the layout at this point. · Cut the mosaic sections that need adjustments using a diamond abrasive wet-saw. · Put the cut sections back in the layout. · Mark the position of each piece where it will be installed. Use numbers to mark each section of mosaic to insure accuracy of the final installation.

CUSTOM FITTED PROJECT

The project was ordered upon approval, by the customer, of a line-drawing made to scale and based on the actual dimensions where it will be installed. The mosaic was fabricated and pre-assembled to dimensions at the factory. Each section is numbered and clearly indicated on the installation plan provided. It requires no cuts or adjustments unless dimensions changed after the order was placed. · Lay dry the mosaic sections in the exact space they will be installed according to the installation plan. For a vertical or ceiling installation, assemble on the floor. · Verify that the whole mosaic fits correctly in the space. · Have the customer approve the layout at this point.

STEP 3 > SET MOSAICS IN PLACE (Thin-set Method)

Square notched trowel (max. ¼” notch), Rubber faced float, Sponge & Diamond abrasive wet-saw

STEP 1 > PREPARATION OF THE INSTALLATION SURFACE

· Verify that the sub-floor and substrate conforms to industry deflection requirements. The structure must be able to accommodate the weight of a stone installation. The architect and the general contractor can assist you in that area. · Substrate must be: smooth and even all over its surface & clean, dry (cured if concrete) and free from all dirt or any substance that could interfere in the adhesion process as well as potentially corrosive elements such as nails and screws. · The use of a moisture barrier is recommended for floor installations on grade.

STEP 2 > LAYOUT OF THE MOSAIC PROJECT

The project was ordered by the piece or surface to cover in square or linear footage, taking into account a waste factor of 10 to 15% for losses at installation. The mosaic was fabricated in module size to be assembled and adjusted by the installer on site.

Prior to setting the material in the mortar, it is extremely important to lay dry the whole project in the exact space where it will be installed. This procedure allows proper fittings and adjustments to insure successful results.

· Mix the thin-set mortar according to fabricator’s instructions. · Using the flat edge of the trowel evenly spread the mortar on the substrate to cover the area of no more than two sections of mosaic. Apply with pressure as to obtain proper mechanical bond. Do not attempt to cover too large of an area to avoid skinning of the setting material. · Make sure you use enough thin-set for proper adherence of the material but not too much to avoid excess mortar being forced up between the mosaic pieces. · Comb the mortar with the notched edge of the trowel. · Position the mosaic section on the mortar bed face taped up. · Gently press the mosaic section into place with a rubber trowel to ensure its complete 100% adhesion to the thin-set (ridges from the notched trowel should disappear). · Verify that the mosaic sections are seamless, at level and that the overall surface is even. · If there was no tape on the surface of the mosaics, remove excess mortar of the surface and clean with sponge and water. · Repeat process until setting is completed. · Allow setting material to cure according the fabricator’s specifications.

VETRO & VENETIAN GLASS **

If a slight difference in thickness between mosaic pieces is noticeable, spread a thin layer of mortar directly on the mesh backer to compensate prior to positioning it on the thin-set mortar.

STEP 5 > GROUTING

Grout may stain the surface of some stones. Always prepare a small test of the grout on the stone before applying to the whole project. Honed and tumbled finish stones as well as pale stones should be sealed prior to grouting. Use quality stone sealer and follow the fabricator’s instructions. · Remove any excess mortar that has come-up to the surface. Be careful not to scratch the surface of the stone. · Mix the filler according to the fabricator’s instructions. · Using a rubber trowel, spread grout in horizontal and vertical directions over a workable area. Remove the excess grout in a diagonal direction. · Allow the grout to set-up according to the fabricator’s specifications and clean the surface of the mosaic. Keep the sponge flat on the surface not to remove too much grout from the joints. Wipe any excess residue changing the water regularly as not to leave a film. · Continue the grouting until all joints are filled and the surface cleaned. · No traffic should be allowed on a floor installation for at least 24 hours or according to the fabricator’s recommendations. Installation guidelines may differ in some areas due to climate, trade practices, building codes or constructions methods. Therefore, they should be approved by technically qualified persons.
