People for A 501(c)3 not for profit CHANNAHON PARKS organization, PFCP solicits FOUNDATION support for the Channahon Park District through volunteerism, gifts and grants, memberships, and planned giving opportunities. Under a mission statement of “providing opportunities for the preservation of open space and the development of recreational opportunities within the Channahon Park District”, PFCP is an important asset to expanding the quality of life the area enjoys. The Foundation Board of Trustees includes President Michael F. Rittof; Vice President Scott Slocum; Treasurer Noreen Dollinger; Secretary Charles Anfield; and Trustees Joanne Carnagio, John Cotter, Rick Hofer, David Landahl, Ronald D. Lehman, Raymond McSteen, David Rumsey and Jeff White. Honorary Trustees are George Barr and George A. McCoy. Howl for the Parks, the largest of the Foundation’s annual special events, attracted over 150 people in January. The night features dueling pianos, silent and live auctions, and great food and drinks. The annual ExxonMobil Community Philanthropic Award is also presented at this event. The 2015 award recipient is Mike Rittof.

The unique project will attract youth, families, schools, scouts, camps and others. Preliminary features include an outdoor classroom, interpretive stations, a shelter with restrooms, educational areas, and nature based play including a unique playground. Visit Arroyo Trails on Saturday, September 26 for the third annual ‘Discovery Day’ event. Is it magic or something else that is in the air on a blue moon night? Come and discover the mystery and magic of a blue moon night at Community Park. We will begin with a family-friendly magic show. Heritage Crossing Field House

Open to all ages Come out and experience the Firefly 5K. The race is held during the Channahon Three Rivers Festival, you and your family can head over to the festival right after the race is complete. There will be awards for the top overall male and female, and the top three finishers in each age category. Refreshments will be available after the race for all participants. The first 300 participants will receive the official Firefly 5K T-Shirt. All pre-registration must be done online on or before August 6. Heritage Crossing Field House

Open to all kids 12 years old & under Mom and Dad do you have a little runner in the family? If so this is a great way to get them started on the road to a healthy lifestyle. The 1-mile run will begin at 6:00 pm. We will give out the kid’s awards and then begin the 5K at 7:00 pm. The 1-mile course will begin at the 5K-start line and finish at the same location as the 5K. We will keep track of place and time and all participants will receive a Firefly T-Shirt and participation medal. Top three finishers in the boys and girls race will receive awards as well. Registration for the kid’s race will be done at the Arrowhead Community Center, or Heritage Crossing Field House. All pre-registration must be done on or before August 6. “Drive in” at Heritage Bluffs Public Golf Club

Ages 6-15 years (Age as of December 31st, 2015) It’s time to show off those football skills! Established in 1961 the PPK completion is the oldest NFL Youth Football program. Boys and girls will be able to showcase their throwing, kicking and punting skills to try and advance further in the competition. National finalists win tickets to NFL playoff games! Let’s give it another try! Join us out on the range for an evening of excitement, food, and fun! We will be showing “Caddy Shack” on the driving range. Registered participants will arrive at Heritage Bluffs and be assigned to a golf cart which they will park on the driving range to watch the movie. The Grille Room will be open serving a limited premovie menu and drinks. Be on the lookout for our Beverage Cart; flag them down should you need a cool beverage. Monkeying Around at Community Park FREE & NEW!

Come and meet a monkey, chimpanzee and more furry friends. Monkeys and More Exotic Animal Rescue will talk about these amazing animals and you will have the opportunity to get an up close look at them. This show is guaranteed entertaining and educational. After the presentation there will be time for pictures with the animals, so bring your camera. We will end our evening with a night hike through the disc golf course. Kelly Miller Circus

Tigers, Elephants, Camels, Clowns, Dogs, Ponies, Aerialists, Acrobats, and much more marvelous magic in America’s One Ring Wonder, the Kelly Miller Circus. The circus will roll into town on Tuesday, September 29th. Everyone is invited to come out and watch the animals being unloaded and fed, witness the raising of the giant big top, followed by a special Tiger Meet & Greet. Activities will begin at 7:30 am, and the tent will be raised at 9:00 a.m. The fun will pick up again at our two circus afternoon shows. Don’t wait, buy your tickets early! Make-A-Blanket-A-Thon for The Ronald McDonald House of Chicago - NEW & FREE!

All ages welcome Join the Channahon Park District in our effort to help collect new warm and cozy blankets this winter for the children and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House of Chicago. Join us at Skateland Recreation Center on November 7th to make new fleece blankets that will be donated on behalf of the Channahon Community. Please bring your own supplies and materials to this event. Blankets must be new, not used and can be any size. If you are unable to attend the event but would still like to donate a new blanket, we will have a collection box available at Arrowhead Community Center November 1-9. Special Events Snowman Building Contest - FREE!

Santa’s Mailbox

Santa’s elves will install a mailbox at Arrowhead Community Center December 1-10. Santa has informed the park district that he will write back to all children that put a letter into this mailbox. His only request is that all children include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Santa’s Skating Party

Join Santa and his elves to celebrate the holidays. We’ll skate, play Santa’s favorite skating games, and visit with Santa. Santa will share some of his favorite treats with the children and bring a few surprises too. Winter Wonderland - FREE!

Start the winter season with us. Back by popular demand - live reindeer! You and your family will have the opportunity to pet and get a photo with the real reindeer. A roving juggler will entertain you from 10-11:30am. During this event you will also experience carolers, horse drawn carriage rides, a candy cane scramble and more. Candy cane scramble will take place at 11am. You will also enjoy a nice hot cup of chocolate, decorate sugar cookies and make a winter wonderland craft. Noon Year Celebration

Join us for this family celebration to ring in 2016 without staying up quite so late. The New Year’s Party will have skating, games, fun competitions, prizes, and a balloon drop. Celebrate Noon Year’s Eve with us! Have some fun in the snow with your family. Channahon Park District families are encouraged to get out in the snow and team up to create their own snowman or snow sculpture. Build one anytime this winter season and take a photo of your creation. You can drop off or mail your photo to Nicole at Arrowhead Community Center, 24856 W. Eames St. Please submit photos no later than March 14. The following two categories will be judged: “Classic Snowman” and “Snow Sculpture” (may include animals…be creative). Be sure to list all of the names of the creators and snowman in the picture with address and phone number on the back of the photo. Winners will receive a park district gift card.

Fall Scramble

Saturday, September 26, 2015

Come out and enjoy the fall weather and colors in this 4-person scramble format. There will be contests for closest to the pins, long drives and an optional skins game. The cost is $52 per person including lunch at the turn and prize money. Tee times will begin at 10:00 am. Bring your best and challenge Heritage Bluffs at it’s best. The first annual Slash and Bash scramble is a 4-person bring your best event. The course will be set up at it’s toughest with the tees all the way back and the pins tucked. This event will test every player in your group. There will be contests for closest to the pin, long drive, and an optional skins game for the adventurous. The cost for this event is $52 per player which includes lunch at the turn and prize money for the winners. 1st Annual Chili Shoot Out Saturday, November 14, 2015

Bring some friends or at least acquaintances to the first annual Turkey Shoot. It could be cold, it could be warm, we aren’t sure. But if there is no snow there will be golf. This will be a four person scramble format with prizes for closest to the pin and gross and net scores. There will also be an optional skins game for the betting types. Horse Back Riding Lessons

Ages 7 years & up Learn to ride in a fun, safe and clean environment. These lessons will help the beginner rider learn the basic skills of riding: Mounting/Dismounting properly; Balance and cues (stop, start, steer); Proper horse care and rider safety and equipment. Each rider will have his/her own escort while riding. Instructor will assess the appropriate pace for the individual rider. Those with some experience will continue to improve on their skills. All riders must wear a safety helmet which is provided. There will be a release form to be filled out which outlines the Equine Liability Act before mounting at the farm. Youth Programs After the Bell*

2015-2016 School Year

Grades K-4th After the Bell is an after school program which provides the perfect in-between location for kids once they leave school and before they go home. The program follows the Channahon District 17 school calendar. Busses provided by the District will transport students directly to the After the Bell location. If your child does not attend Channahon Schools, transportation will need to be provided. At After the Bell children will have the chance to have an afternoon snack and drink, have time to complete their homework and end the day with fun activities before they are picked up. Activities will vary depending on the day. Monday, Wednesday and Friday the participants are able to play board games, play on the Wii and participate in group games on the Skateland floor. Tuesday and Thursdays are skating dates for After the Bell participants. The program Directors, Assistant Directors and staff are all CPR and firstaid certified, and most importantly full of fun energy! Everyone is welcome to sign up for the year! You are able to pay in full or have a monthly charge on an EFT. Otherwise you can pay daily for your child to attend. Friday at noon of the week prior is the deadline for daily registration. Channahon Park District welcomes Challenge Fitness of Lockport to run tennis lessons and programs this fall. The tennis pros of Challenge Fitness are certified and teach tennis year-round to all levels and ages.

Ages 5-10 years The program utilizes smaller courts, lighter balls and shorter nets for younger players to learn tennis easier and quicker just as other sports use different equipment and supplies given the ages of the participants. Grades 1st -8th Get ready for another exciting season of Flag Football. Players will learn fundamental skills like passing, catching, running, blocking, and defense then use those skills in game situations. This non-contact league will help beginners learn the game of football and give players with some experience a chance to improve their skills. Ice Skating Classes

In cooperation with the Joliet Park District, the Channahon Park District is able to offer our residents a special fee for all figure skating lessons at Inwood Arena. The fee is equivalent to Joliet’s resident rate, plus a $2 per class, non-refundable administrative fee. From beginner to advanced, these are lessons for every level of skater and not just for figure skaters. These lessons are valuable to inline skaters and hockey players as well as figure skaters. Sylvan ACT Test Prep

Ages 11-14 years This course will help prepare young people for the responsibility of babysitting according to the American Red Cross. The class covers diapering, holding, feeding, how to supervise children, accident prevention, simple first aid, age appropriate play activities, getting help in emergencies, how to interview for a job, and what is expected from the parents. Teen Zone After-School Program* 2015-2016 School Year

Grades 5th- 8th Teen Zone is an after school program for 5th-8th grade students which provides the perfect in between location for kids once they get out of school before going home. At Teen Zone we provide a fun and safe environment for tweens to get their homework done, have a snack and drink, and participate in fun activities before being picked up. Activities will vary depending on the day but will include games, outdoor and group activities, and access to the Heritage Crossing Field House gym. The Fitness Staff at Channahon Park District are proud to offer you a group exercise program that offers a wide variety of fitness classes. The schedule is jam packed with great fitness classes that will fit any taste or fitness level.

Option #1

Unlimited Class Pass:

Attend as many classes as you like with flexibility. The unlimited pass allows you to pick and choose which classes you want to attend from day to day and week to week. Try as many as you like and mix up your work outs. The unlimited passes are already discounted therefore additional discounts will not be applied.

Walk In:

Simply register for the specific class or classes that you plan to attend. Fitness Center members will receive 20% off of their program registration. Not a member and registering for more than one full price class? Save $5 per class after the first class is paid in full. Only one discount per person. Not sure of your schedule or which classes you prefer? Walk-ins are welcome and allow you to pick and choose which classes to attend. Fee for most classes is $5R or $6NR. Walk-in fee for Spin classes, Zumba, 1.25 hour classes, and some occasional specials is $7R or $8NR. Fitness Members save $1 on the walk in fee.

Cancellations – We try very hard to avoid cancelling classes, however, occasionally we do need to cancel a class. We will send an e-mail to registered participants and to unlimited members whenever possible as soon as we are aware of the cancellation. Classes that consistently have less than 4 participants after the third week will be cancelled. If the decision is made to cancel a class, registered participants and unlimited participants will be notified and the website will be updated to reflect the change.

Men’s Basketball Open Gym

High school age & up Love to play basketball, getting your team ready for the league or just an individual player looking for a team. Anyway you look at it, this is a great way to play basketball. Players sign in and teams are formed (first five form one team, etc) Games are played to 11 pts and winners keep the court. If you lose, resign up and join a new team. Games will be played full court, unless the amount of players warrant using two cross courts. No pre-registration is required. All games will be played according to IHSA rules with a few house rules. All games will have 2 twenty-minute halves and a 5-minute half time. Each division will include a nine game regular season, playoffs, league standings, patched game officials and scorekeepers. Awards will be given to top teams in the league and winner of the tournament. Sign your team up early because space is limited. Disc Golf - FREE!

18 Hole Course located in Community Park Open Daily Dawn to Dusk Weather Permitting Ever throw a frisbee? Then you can play Disc Golf! Players use a disc to ‘drive’, ‘chip’ and ‘putt’ into an elevated basket to complete each hole. The course winds through the natural areas of Community Park. People of all ages can enjoy the outdoors and view the plantings and wildlife found in the park while playing disc golf. Concrete tee surfaces allow for a quality year round disc golf experience.

Permanent Court Procedures

Permanent court time guarantees your playing time each week and represents a 15% discount off court costs. The individual who is reserving the permanent court time must be present to play during that reserved time. The fee for the permanent court time is based on two players; if more than two players are playing an additional fee for the extra player will be charged. Two courts cannot be reserved by the same person at the same time. Present permanent court time holders have first priority between the end of their session and the start of the new session.

The AARP Driver Safety Program is designated to the mature driver learning ways to compensate for any physical chance that may affect their driving. Learn defensive driving techniques, new traffic, laws and rules of the road. Learn how to safely compensate for changes in vision, hearing and reaction time. In Illinois, if an individual is 55, has a good driving record, is the primary driver of the car and has completed this course, all automobile companies must provide a discount on insurance premiums for a period of 3 years. Special Recreation Joliet/Channahon

Special Recreation of Joliet and Channahon (SRJC) is a cooperative extension of the Joliet and Channahon Park District that provides year round recreational activities for individuals who wish to participate in alternative park district programs. Individuals of varying ability levels can actively participate in a variety of recreational programs. These programs are designed to help participants who may have physical or mental disabilities, sensory impairment or any other type of disability develop leisure skills, independent living skills and motor skills. In addition to all of these benefits, the most important is to have fun! A fulltime Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or qualified program leader staffs each program. A dedicated full-time staff and volunteers assist them. Transportation is available for some programs to residents of Channahon and Joliet. Sunshine Through Golf

Ages 13 year & up The Channahon Park District is teaming up with the Chicago District Golf Association and the Golf Pros at Heritage Bluffs Public Golf Club. This program is aimed at persons with special needs who have an interest in the game of golf. Through this program participants have a chance to work on hand eye coordination through the fundamentals of the golf swing. Participants will learn the rules, technique, and etiquette of the game of golf. This cooperative effort will help increase social skills, community interaction, and knowledge of golf. Heritage Bluffs Public Golf Club is the 27th course in Illinois and the 379th in the world to receive the honor. To reach this certification a course must demonstrate that they are maintaining a high degree of environmental quality in a number of areas.

U.S. Kids Golf Course

U.S. Kids Golf and Heritage Bluffs have established two sets of tee markers for golfers ages 6-12 years. Plates on the cart path direct our youngest golfers to tee markers on the course ahead of the copper tees. Course distances are 2,252 yards (green tees) and 3,720 yards (yellow tees). Special green fees apply to Kids Course players, and complimentary rental clubs are available through Sticks for Kids, a program of the Golf Course Builders Association of America Foundation and the National Recreation and Park Association. Youth Fitness Requirements

Participants must be in High school or older to work out in the fitness center alone. 7th and 8th grade students may workout on track or fitness center while accompanied by a parent. 5th and 6th grade students may workout on the track only while accompanied by a parent.

Basic Training Equipment Orientation

All members will receive three complimentary fitness center appointments with their fitness center memberships. Orientations will be offered individually by appointment with our trained fitness staff. Please call ahead for staff availability.

Locker Rooms

Men’s and women’s locker rooms are available on the lower level of the Field House. Daily use lockers are available at no charge. Locks must be removed daily.

Circuit Training

Experience an all in one workout utilizing cardio and strength equipment at Dimensions Fitness Center in both a structured and unstructured format. A time clock will be available during all open hours for individual circuit training. This program is included in your fitness center membership.

The Channahon Park District will host basketball open gym at various times throughout the week. A schedule is available at the Field House service desk. All ages welcome. Walk/Run Track

Three lane suspended walk/run track is available for community use. Nine laps around the track equals one mile. The surface is made of a rubberized cushioned material to help absorb impact. Memberships are available for track use, or participants may pay a daily use fee. Use of track is included in the Fitness Center membership.

What is Adopt A Flower Bed?

Adopt A Flower Bed is a volunteer activity where area volunteer groups “adopt” a flower bed in a Channahon Park District park. The adoptive group is responsible for planting and maintaining the bed during the spring, summer, and fall.

We provide all the materials you need

The Park District provides all planting materials and tools. Volunteer groups need to provide energy, time, and enthusiasm. This is an ideal service project for all ages, children through seniors!

Arrowhead Community Center Arrowhead Community Center is a 17,500 square foot facility that houses the administrative offices of the Channahon Park District, as well as two racquetball courts, aerobics room, pre-school rooms, and program rooms.

Three Rivers Festival Committee

Channahon’s annual Three Rivers Festival is organized by a group of community volunteers. Two representatives from each of the four sponsoring organizations (Channahon Baseball League, Chanooka Braves, Channahon Lions Club and Channahon Fire Department) are joined by at large representatives. The Village of Channahon and Channahon Park District have non-voting committee memberships. The Festival Committee schedules events, arranges for entertainment and takes care of all aspects of the festival. Each of the sponsoring organizations receive one fourth of the proceeds of this major fund raising event for their community programs. IL Dept. of Natural Resources

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is responsible for several area parks: Channahon Access to I & M Canal (815-467-4271); the I & M Canal State Trail (815-942-0796); Goose Lake Prairie State Park (815-942-2899); Heideke Lake (815-942-6352); the Des Plaines Conservation Area (815-423-5326); Mazonia/Braidwood State Fish and Wildlife Area (815-237-0063).

Forest Preserve District of Will County

The Will County Forest Preserve District maintains McKinley Woods Forest Preserve located at the south end of McKinley Woods Road, the Rock Run Rookery on Youngs Rd south of Rt. 6, Lake Chaminwood on Shepley Rd west of I-55, and the Rock Run Preserve on Hollywood Blvd east of Channahon. The McKinley Woods Preserve includes the Four Rivers Environmental Education Center and Kerry Sheridan Grove, accessible from Blackberry Lane. The Channahon Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Channahon Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect participants’ safety. However, participants and parents/guardians registering for recreation programs and activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational programs and activities. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ ward is physically fit and/or skilled for the activities contemplated. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.

The Channahon Park District is continuously working to provide our residents with the highest quality programs available. Because you should always be satisfied with your program experiences with us, we guarantee our recreation programs. If you are not satisfied after attending two program sessions, we kindly ask you to fill out our Refund Request Form. Include your suggestions, ideas or changes to help us provide the best possible programs. Processing fees are not charged to program refunds under a Satisfaction Guarantee.

Gift cards are available throughout the year for the Channahon Park District. Give the gift of leisure, in the form of golf, swimming, any of our hundreds of programs, and merchandise and food at Heritage Bluffs. You can make a special memory by purchasing a tree or bench to be placed in one of your parks. Mark a birth, anniversary, any of life’s special moments, or remember a family member or friend. A wide variety of trees or a bench made with the use of recycled plastic timbers can be placed in almost any of your parks. WARNING OF RISK Recreational activities/programs are intended to challenge and engage the physical, mental and emotional resources of each participant. Despite careful and proper preparation, instruction, medical advice, conditioning and equipment, there is still a risk of serious injury when participating in any recreational activity/program. Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist. 1. Carefully complete the Channahon Park District registration form on page 54. Registration forms are also available at Arrowhead Community Center, Heritage Crossing Field House or online at www.channahonpark.org. Include all names, ages, course names and numbers, phone numbers and address. Under 18? Waiver must be signed by parent or guardian. Waivers not filled out correctly may not be processed. Only one family per registration form.

REFUND REQUEST PROCEDURE The Channahon Park District understands that schedules change and things come up that prevent participation in programs that have been registered for. It is our intent to refund your money whenever possible. We ask that you understand that in order to maintain the integrity of our programs that the following guidelines have been developed: 1. Patrons requesting a refund are asked to complete refund request form. Forms are available at Arrowhead Community Center, Heritage Crossing Field House or downloadable on our www.channahonpark.org website from the registration page. 2. All refund requests are subject to approval. Filling out the form does not guarantee a refund.

2. Payment for all activities must be made at time of registration or registration is not complete. Payments can be made by cash, check or credit card (Visa/Mastercard). Returned checks will result in a $20 fee.

3. All refunds are assessed a $5.00 processing fee. The fee is waived if you choose to have a credit put on your account or receive a Park District gift card.

MULTIPLE CHILD DISCOUNT Families registering multiple children for Youth Sport Leagues, Ryuku Kempo Karate, After the Bell (monthly or yearly plan) or Day Camp Programs are eligible for the following Multiple Child Discount: 1. 10% off a second child’s registration fee for the same program or activity. 2. 15% off each additional child registered for the same program or activity, after the first two registered.

5. Please submit refund requests 3 business days prior to the program/rental start date or listed registration deadline date. 6. Requests for refunds made after the deadline or after class has started will be considered on an individual basis and are subject to approval. Refunds issued after program start dates will be prorated. Participants will be charged for classes that have taken place, attended or not, based on the date the refund request form was received. 7. No refunds will be granted after the third class meeting with the exception of a medical reason. Refunds for medical reasons must be requested within 10 days following completion of the program or activity and a doctor’s note will be required with the refund request. 8. Refunds will not be issued for the portion of the program fees paid for unrecoverable expense such as contractual instructor fees, tickets, trips, t-shirts, books, and other expense after the program registration/refund deadline.
