Welcome to Arroyo Trails! Welcome to Arroyo Trails! A truly unique, 78-acre nature park and trail system that will be unlike any other! A unique natural area for reintroducing children and families to nature and protecting nature and enriching life. areas such as: a teepee village, tree-top tower, access to the DuPage River, outdoor amphitheater (featured on the right), walking trails, outdoor embraces the concepts of “Leave No Child Inside” seeking to reconnect children with nature.

Outdoor Amphitheater...an outdoor classroom/amphitheater with stage and boulder accents will be a central location for groups to meet for education programs.

Childhood obesity has more than doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30 years. In 2016, more than 1/3 of children and adolescents are overweight or obese. Today’s children spend an average of 4-5 hours per day inside playing with electronics, watching TV and talking on the phone.

In addition to developing physical strength, coordination and balance, outdoor play can provide opportunities for children to learn and develop: • Social Skills • Imagination and Creativity • • Sense of Self • Sense of Connection • Important Life Skills

Nature Based Play...allowing children to climb, build, dig and explore at their own pace.

Picnic Shelter & Restrooms...located to the south of the playground, features accessible picnic tables and attached restrooms.

Teepee Village...an accessible asphalt trail

leads across rustic bridge crossings to the Teepee Village where children will learn about the Native American heritage of the Channahon area through play in birch bark canoes and multi-level teepees.

Beaver Building Area...include tree branch materials provided for families to build a beaver lodge and learn how beavers used wood and mud materials.


truly unique 78 acre nature park and walking trails, serving the communities of Kendall, Grundy and Will Counties and beyond. We anticipate this park attracting thousands of children, adults and families. one-mile walking trail (two miles out and back) taking you along the ravine, forest and meadow areas for kids and families to play and be out in nature. Nature Based Educational Programs throughout the year among the woodlands and grasslands on the property including summer camps, special events, and scout group programs. Interpretive signage and opportunities to learn through play will be located throughout the project.

Trails...a network of accesible trails will

provide an opportunity for everyone to experience the park, regardless of their ability or mobility for a quarter mile loop with easy access to several park elements. Additional trails of wood chip or crushed limestone surfaces will wind through the ravine area, with stream crossings in selected areas.
