People for

CHANNAHON PARKS FOUNDATION

The People for Channahon Parks (PFCP) Foundation was formed in 2009. A 501(c)3 not for profit organization, PFCP solicits support for the Channahon Park District through volunteerism, gifts and grants, memberships, and planned giving opportunities. Under a mission statement of “providing opportunities for the preservation of open space and the development of recreational opportunities within the Channahon Park District”, PFCP is an important asset to expanding the quality of life the area enjoys. The Foundation Board of Trustees includes President Michael F. Rittof; Vice President Scott Slocum; Treasurer Noreen Dollinger; Secretary Charles Anfield; and Trustees Joanne Carnagio, John Cotter, Rick Hofer, David Landahl, Ronald D. Lehman, Raymond McSteen, David Rumsey and Jeff White. Honorary Trustees are George Barr and George A. McCoy. Howl for the Parks, the largest of the Foundation’s annual special events, attracted over 150 people in January. The night features dueling pianos, silent and live auctions, and great food and drinks. The annual ExxonMobil Community Philanthropic Award is also

The Foundation is working with the Park District to raise funds and develop the district’s newest park - Arroyo Trails, A Discovery Woodlands. It is expected that the unique project will attract youth, families, schools, scouts, camps and others. Preliminary features include an outdoor classroom, interpretive stations, a shelter with restrooms, educational areas, and nature based play including a unique playground. Earth Day Party - FREE!

All Ages Welcome Let’s celebrate the dirt, flowers, rain and trees! Earth Day and Arbor Day are the perfect times of the year to appreciate what makes the Earth special. Learn how to fill your garden with seed bombs, make a rain stick, a truffula tree and enjoy an Earth Day snack. Please save and bring your empty paper towel rolls and cereal boxes.

Fishing Derby - FREE!

Saturday, June 6 • 8:00-10:00 am I & M Canal State Park

Ages 12 years & younger Join us in celebration of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources FREE fishing days! Bring your pole, bait and a container to put your fish in. This is a great way to help youth develop a lifelong love of fishing. No pre-registration is required. Check-in will begin at 8am. Fishing will begin at 8:15 am. Fishing will end at 10am and all fish must be checked-in by 10:20 am. The awards presentation will begin at 10:30am. All participants will receive a Fishing Derby ribbon and goodie bag. Top prizes will be awarded to the smallest fish, largest fish and most fish caught. This event is run on the honor system; all fish must be caught by the children, but assistance may by given for baiting and casting.

All ages welcome The Joliet Junior College Fine Arts Department 2015 Children’s Theatre is proud to present The Bremen Town Musicians. In this one act play we see an old Donkey who is hoping to start over and leaves the farm to travel to Bremen where he will join a band. One the way, he meets a dog, a cat and a rooster. With a bray, a bark, a meow and a cock-a-doodle-doo, they become fast friends and decide to travel together to join the Bremen Town band…getting there leads to a great adventure with unexpected surprises along the way in this retelling of the classic Brothers Grimm Story!

80’s Party in the Park - NEW! Thursday, July 9 • 6:00-9:00 pm Central Park

Flashback to the 1980’s with the Channahon Park District as we celebrate Park & Recreation Month in July. We will kick-off our celebration with a session of Mousersice for kids of all ages. A DJ will spin all of your favorite hits from the 80’s as you play with our koosh balls and hacky-sacks. There will be giant connect 4 and jenga games to play; and you can even decorate your own slap bracelet. So, tight roll your jeans, grab your leg warmers, use your aqua net hair spray and join us for a totally tubular good time. Raffle tickets will be given to those dressing 80’s style and prizes will be awarded. We will show “The Adventures of Milo and Otis” (1986) to end our evening (movie begins at 8pm)

Heritage Crossing Field House

Open to all ages Come out and experience the Firefly 5K. The race is held during the Channahon Three Rivers Festival, you and your family can head over to the festival right after the race is complete. There will be awards for the top overall male and female, and the top three finishers in each age category. Refreshments will be available after the race for all participants. The first 300 participants will receive the official Firefly 5K T-Shirt. All pre-registration must be done online on or before Aug 6. Athletico Channahon Firefly 1-Mile Kid Run

Open to all kids 12 years old & under Mom and Dad do you have a little runner in the family? If so this is a great way to get them started on the road to a healthy lifestyle. The 1-mile run will begin at 6:00 pm. We will give out the kid’s awards and then begin the 5K at 7:00 pm. The 1-mile course will begin at the 5K-start line and finish at the same location as the 5K. We will keep track of place and time and all participants will receive a Firefly T-Shirt and participation medal. Top three finishers in the boys and girls race will receive awards as well. Registration for the kid’s race will be done at the Arrowhead Community Center, or Heritage Crossing Field House. All pre-registration must be done on or before July 30th. TV’s that cover the walls in front of custom stadium seats with built-in vibration motors synched to the on-screen action with speakers in front and back. Once you’re done there, come get your glow sticks and dance the night away with your friends in the park while the DJ plays some jams.

In conjunction with the Three Rivers Public Library District.

Let’s give it another try! Join us out on the range for an evening of excitement, food, and fun! We will be showing “Caddy Shack” on the driving range. Registered participants will arrive at Heritage Bluffs and be assigned to a golf cart which they will park on the driving range to watch the movie. The Grille Room will be open serving a limited pre-movie menu and drinks. Be on the lookout for our Beverage Cart; flag them down should you need a cool beverage. Be sure to register early so you are sure to get a golf cart. Spaces are limited due to number of golf carts. Don’t miss out on this night out!! Dancers will perform at Art In The Park on July 11 at Arroyo Trails. Three Rivers Festival stage presentations will be August 15 and the parade will be August 16. Dance showcase will be Sunday, August 23.

Class Attire: Students are encouraged to wear traditional dance or yoga attire--leotards, tights, leggings, stretch pants, and tops. Boys should wear comfortable clothing. Synergy Park District Competitive Dance Crew

The competitive dance team competes from January to April in the Illinois Park District Gymnastics Conference Drill Team Division. New members are welcome. Welcome to “The Garden!” - NEW!

Ages 3-5 years “The Garden!” three-session preschool camp offers young children an exciting introduction to basic environmental science. Each session is devoted to different aspects of the garden; allowing children to progressively enrich their understanding of how living things grow and how they interact with the environment around them. During the course of each three-hour session, children will perform handson experiments, play themed games, and hear a story related to the session’s themes. Children will investigate what plants produce. They examine the different parts of flowers, fruits, and vegetables using their microscopes, create their very own plants and flowers in their journals, and make frame-able prints of fruits and vegetables to take home!

Children will examine the other inhabitants of the garden, including butterflies, ladybugs, and bees, and learn how these creatures help a garden grow. They will learn about pollination, how bugs see, and basic bug anatomy. Horse Back Riding Lessons

Ages 7 years & up Learn to ride in a fun, safe, and clean environment. These lessons will help the beginner rider learn the basic skills of riding: Mounting/ Dismounting properly; Balance and cues (stop, start, steer); Proper horse care, and rider safety and equipment. Each rider will have his/ her own escort while riding. Instructor will assess the appropriate pace for the individual rider. Those with some experience will continue to improve on their skills. All riders must wear a safety helmet which is provided. There will be a release form to be filled out which outlines the Equine Liability Act before mounting at the farm. Youth Programs After the Bell

2015-2016 School Year

Grades K-4th After the Bell is an after school program which provides the perfect in-between location for kids once they leave school, and before they go home. The program follows the Channahon District 17 school calendar. Busses provided by the District will transport students directly to the After the Bell location. If your child does not attend Channahon Schools, transportation will need to be provided. At After the Bell children will have the chance to have an afternoon snack and drink, have time to work on their homework and end the day with fun activities before they are picked up. Activities will vary depending on the day. Monday, Wednesday, and Friday the participants are able to play board games, play on the Wii, and participate in group games on the Skateland floor. Tuesday and Thursdays are skating dates for After the Bell participants. The program Directors, Assistant Directors, and staff are all CPR and first-aid certified, and most importantly full of fun energy! Everyone is welcome to sign up for the year! Channahon Park District is partnering with Challenge Fitness of Lockport to run tennis lessons and programs this summer. The tennis pros of Challenge Fitness are certified and teach/play tennis yearround to all levels and ages.

Junior Beginner and Advanced Junior Beginner

Ages 5-12 years The program utilizes smaller courts, lighter balls, and shorter nets for younger players to learn tennis easier and quicker; just as other sports use different equipment and supplies given the ages of the participants. The program was created by the USTA and all staff are highly trained in the new format.

Ages 5-8 years This class is for young children ages 5-8, with little to no tennis knowledge. IPRA Teen Overnight Kayak Trip

Ages 15 years & up Are you looking for the perfect summer job? Learn leadership skills as well as water rescue techniques in this American Red Cross Lifeguarding Course. Grades 5th-8th Teen Zone is an after school program specifically for 5th through 8th grade students. It provides the perfect in between location for kids once they get out of school before going home. The program follows the Channahon District 17 school calendar. Busses provided by the District will transport students directly to the Teen Zone location. If your child does not attend Channahon Schools, transportation will need to be provided. At Teen Zone we provide a fun and safe environment for tweens to get their homework done, have a healthier snack and drink, and participate in various activities. Teen Zone also has access to the Heritage Crossing Field House gym. The program Directors, Assistant Directors and staff are all CPR and first-aid certified, and most importantly full of fun energy! Simply register for the specific class or classes that you plan to attend. Fitness Center members will receive 20% off of their program registration. Not a member and registering for more than one full price class? Save $5 per class after the first class is paid in full. Only one discount per person. Not sure of your schedule or which classes you prefer? Walk-ins are welcome and allow you to pick and choose which classes to attend. Fee for most classes is $5R or $6NR. Walk-in fee for Spin classes, Zumba, 1.25 hour classes, and some occasional specials is $7R or $8NR. Fitness Members save $1 on the walk in fee.

Cancellations – We try very hard to avoid cancelling classes, however, occasionally we do need to cancel a class. We will send an e-mail to registered participants and to unlimited members whenever possible as soon as we are aware of the cancellation. Classes that consistently have less than 4 participants are at risk of being cancelled. If the decision is made to cancel a class, registered participants and unlimited participants will be notified and the website will be updated to reflect the change.

Permanent Court Procedures

Permanent court time guarantees your playing time each week and represents a 15% discount off court costs. The individual who is reserving the permanent court time must be present to play during that reserved time. The fee for the permanent court time is based on two players; if more than two players are playing an additional fee for the extra player will be charged. Two courts cannot be reserved by the same person at the same time. Present permanent court time holders have first priority between the end of their session and the start of the new session.

Special Recreation of Joliet and Channahon (SRJC) is a cooperative extension of the Joliet and Channahon Park District that provides year round recreational activities for individuals who wish to participate in alternative park district programs. Through this program participants have a chance to work on hand eye coordination through the fundamentals of the golf swing. Participants will learn the rules, technique, and etiquette of the game of golf. This cooperative effort will help increase social skills, community interaction, and knowledge of golf. Attention Campers:

Campers are to bring sun block, swimwear, backpack, lunch, and a drink daily unless otherwise noted. An 8-week calendar will be given to each participant detailing all activities, swimming, field trips, etc. Additional information will be included in the Parent/Camper Manual which will be distributed upon registration after April 25, or mailed if registered by April 25. Season Passes on Sale Now!

Season passes are available for renewal or purchase at Arrowhead Community Center. Photo identification cards will be utilized for season passes. It is important that all members have their photo taken and show it at the aquatic center for every visit. Family members are defined as individuals residing in the same household. Season passes are good during all open swim and lap swim times. Proof of residency is required at the time of renewal or purchase. To prove residency, please provide the following information: •

Adults 21 and over: Recent utility bill and one of the following: drivers license, state id, card or passport.

Children 3-20: Any of the following: student ID card, birth certificate, or passport.

Before you visit, please note: •

Everyone in the swimming pool must wear a swimsuit. No street clothes, including leotards, colored t-shirts or cut-offs.

To keep our water safe: All children who are not toilet trained shall wear tightly fitting plastic pants over an approved water diaper. Diapers are available for purchase at the pool for $1, plastic pants are $2.

A concession stand is available for your convenience. No outside food or beverages are allowed to be brought into the facility. If you bring food you are welcome to picnic in Central Park adjacent to the Aquatic Center.

Adult supervision is required for everyone at the facility under the age of 12. Proof of age must be shown for youth attending without an adult. A special ID card may be obtained at Arrowhead Community Center.

All youth age 12-13 years will receive a yellow sticker on their card showing that they are able to be admitted to the aquatic center without adult supervision.

All youth age 14 years and older will receive a green sticker on their card showing that they are able to be admitted and supervise up to 2 youth under the age of 12.

To renew or purchase a season pass, you must show current utility bill as proof of residency. “Family members” are identified as spouse or dependents residing in the same household. Proof of residency and relationship will be required at time of purchase.

Pool Closing Policies:

Season Pass Benefit Cards

Swimming is prohibited when lightening is present; including a 30-minute period after the last lightening is sighted. If the pool is closed due to rain and the weather clears by 2:30pm, we will attempt to re-open the pool by 3:00pm. Other wise the pool will remain closed until the next open swim time. Swim Lessons will still be held.

All resident season pass holders will receive one Benefit Card per family. Benefit Cards include five FREE guest admissions and five free snowcones. A season pass holder must be present to use the Benefit Card. Benefit Cards are nontransferable. Lost or stolen cards will not be replaced.

Caregiver Pass

Caregiver – Non-resident adult, babysitting resident children Care receiver – Non-resident child receiving babysitting services by a resident pass holder. •

Passes are valid only if the caregiver or care receiver is accompanied by the children receiving the care or the adult providing the care. They are not valid for additional family members. The caregiver/receiver passes must be purchased by the resident family providing or receiving the care. The family membership number will be on the pass.

Caregivers that are residents of the Channahon Park District are eligible for season passes at the resident rates and do not need a special rate.

Inclement Weather – When the weather falls below 70 degrees or when storms threaten safety.

Low Attendance – When there is less than 40 people at the pool the pool will remain open but the slide will close. When there is less than 20 people at the pool by 2:00pm the facility will close. Safety Hazards – When a situation arises that would jeopardize the public health of those in attendance. The pool manager has the authority to make the decision to close the pool for any of the above reasons. Please call (815) 467-SWIM to confirm the daily schedule. Rain checks will be issued to those participants paying daily admission into the Tomahawk Aquatic Center and who are rained out within the first hour of their visit. These rain checks will only be issued from the Tomahawk Aquatic Center and only on the day of the closing.

Swim Lessons

Resident Swim lesson registration will begin Wednesday, April 8 by mail in or drop off only! Nonresident registration begins Wednesday, April 15. Weekday swim lessons meet for 40 minutes Monday through Thursday for two weeks. Saturday swim lessons meet for 40 minutes on 8 Saturdays. Parent/Tot classes are 30 minutes. Once a session begins, Swim lessons will not be cancelled. In the event of inclement weather, pool and water safety will be taught indoors at Arrowhead Community Center. Registration Deadline: Friday prior to the first class of each session. Participants may only register for 2 sessions at one time. Refund Deadline: Requests must be submitted by the Thursday prior to the new session to receive a refund. Otherwise a doctor’s note must be provided. Ages 6 to 42 months Parents and tots are introduced to the water through fun and playful activities. Games and songs are an integral part of this class. Babysitting is available at Heritage Crossing Field House for siblings not enrolled in their own swim lesson. Parent:Child ratio is 1:1.

Preschool

Ages 42 month-5 years Designed for the preschool swimmer, this level encourages young swimmers to be comfortable in and around the water. Games and songs are used in teaching supported floating, kicking, front arm movements, and various water safety skills.

Level 1 – Introduction to Aquatic Skills

Ages 6 years & up or completed preschool level Level one teaches new swimmers going under water, opening eyes under water, supported and unsupported floating and kicking, exhaling under water, beginning arm movements and more. Reaching and extension assists are among the Red Cross safety skills taught.

Level 2 – Fundamental Aquatic Skills

Ages 6 years & up or completed level 1 In this level swimmers will learn supported and unsupported floating and kicking, rhythmic breathing, front crawl movements and beginning back crawl movements. Reaching and extension assists are among the Red Cross safety skills taught.

Level 3 – Stroke Development

Ages 6 years & up or completed Level 2 Level 3 emphasizes improving front crawl stroke, coordinating back crawl and learning the elementary back stroke. Butterfly kick and survival skills are taught here.

Level 4 – Stroke Improvement

Ages 6 years & up or completed Level 3 Breaststroke and butterfly are introduced. Front and Back Crawl as well as elementary back stroke are perfected. Develops confidence in skills learned and improves other aquatic skills.

Level 5 – Stroke Refinement

Ages 6 years & up or completed Level 4 A technical review of front crawl, back crawl, elementary backstroke, breast stroke and sidestroke is conducted. Butterfly stroke flip turns and surface dives are introduced.

Level 6 – Skill proficiency

Ages 6 years & up or completed Level 5 Refines the strokes so students swim them with ease, efficiency, and power for greater distances. Level 6 options include personal safety, fitness, and lifeguard readiness.

Private Swim Lessons

Swimming is an important life skill that all children and adults should have the opportunity to learn. Private swim lessons are the perfect opportunity to get one on one attention. Whether afraid of the water or advanced for his/her age, the instructor will adjust the swim lesson to suit the participant’s needs.

Youth Fitness Requirements

Participants must be in High school or older to work out in the fitness center alone. 7th and 8th grade students may workout on track or fitness center while accompanied by a parent. 5th and 6th grade students may workout on the track only while accompanied by a parent.

Basic Training Equipment Orientation

All members will receive three complimentary fitness center appointments with their fitness center memberships. Orientations will be offered individually by appointment with our trained fitness staff. Please call ahead for staff availability.

Our childcare service will be available for children 9 months and older at the Heritage Crossing Field House. Summer hours begin June 1.

If you want to improve sport performance, the cardinal rule is: BE MORE SPECIFIC. Your best gains in performance will be achieved when key parts of your training closely mimic what you do when you compete. The more specific your training, the greater impact on your performance. The Channahon Park District will host basketball open gym at various times throughout the week. A schedule is available at the Field House service desk. All ages welcome. Parental supervision required for children 10 and under. Res/Nonres Drop-in fee rate $3/$4 Dimensions Fitness Center members are free.

Three lane suspended walk/run track is available for community use. Nine laps around the track equals one mile. The surface is made of a rubberized cushioned material to help absorb impact. Memberships are available for track use, or participants may pay a daily use fee. Use of track is included in the Fitness Center membership.

Channahon Park District’s flower beds are in need of some TLC! That’s why we are inviting area scouting programs, civic organizations, volunteer groups, and individuals to be a part of our Adopt A Flower Bed program.

What is Adopt A Flower Bed?

Adopt A Flower Bed is a volunteer activity where area volunteer groups “adopt” a flower bed in a Channahon Park District park. The adoptive group is responsible for planting and maintaining the bed during the spring, summer, and fall.

We provide all the materials you need

The Park District provides all planting materials and tools. Volunteer groups need to provide energy, time, and enthusiasm. This is an ideal service project for all ages, children through seniors!

Pavilion Reservations The Channahon Park District is accepting reservations for picnic pavilions at Central and Community Parks. Only one pavilion may be reserved per day. Resident fee is $25. Nonresident fee is $100. Payment is required when the reservation is made. ALCOHOL IS ALLOWED AT THE PAVILIONS ONLY WITH A PERMIT. FOR EVERYONE’S SAFETY AND BENEFIT, WE ASK ALL PARK USERS TO ADHERE TO THESE RULES AND RESTRICTIONS: • Keep all motorized vehicles in parking areas; never drive on grass or pathways; don’t operate non-licensed motorized vehicles (snowmobiles, mini-bikes, off road motorized cycles, ATV’s) anywhere in the park. • Don’t bring or use fireworks, model rockets or firearms in parks. • Remember that Illinois laws prohibit alcohol use in parks without a permit. People for Channahon Parks Foundation

The People for Channahon Parks Foundation is a 501(c)3 not for profit organization in the community. Three Rivers Festival Committee

Channahon’s annual Three Rivers Festival is organized by a group of community volunteers. Two representatives from each of the four sponsoring organizations (Channahon Baseball League, Chanooka Braves, Channahon Lions Club and Channahon Fire Department) are joined by at large representatives. The Village of Channahon and Channahon Park District have non-voting committee memberships. The Festival Committee schedules events, arranges for entertainment and takes care of all aspects of the festival. Each of the sponsoring organizations receive one fourth of the proceeds of this major fund raising event for their community programs. The Committee meets monthly February-September on the third Tuesday of the month at the Channahon Municipal Center Board Room. Forest Preserve District of Will County

The Will County Forest Preserve District maintains McKinley Woods Forest Preserve located at the south end of McKinley Woods Road, the Rock Run Rookery on Youngs Rd south of Rt. 6, Lake Chaminwood on Shepley Rd west of I-55, and the Rock Run Preserve on Hollywood Blvd east of Channahon. The McKinley Woods Preserve includes the Four Rivers Environmental Education Center and Kerry Sheridan Grove, accessible from Blackberry Lane. The Channahon Park District is committed to conducting its recreation programs and activities in a safe manner and holds the safety of participants in high regard. The Channahon Park District continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions that are designed to protect participants’ safety. However, participants and parents/guardians registering for recreation programs and activities must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational programs and activities. You are solely responsible for determining if you or your minor child/ ward is physically fit and/or skilled for the activities contemplated. It is always advisable, especially if the participant is pregnant, disabled in any way or recently suffered an illness to consult a physician before undertaking any physical activity.

The Channahon Park District is continuously working to provide our residents with the highest quality programs available. Because you should always be satisfied with your program experiences with us, we guarantee our recreation programs. Gift cards are available throughout the year for the Channahon Park District. All registrations are processed in random order, beginning the first day of walk-in registration. The Channahon Park District is not responsible for lost, stolen, damaged or late mail. Visit www.channahonpark.org, under Registration click on Online Registration. If you are already in our database with a valid email simply choose “forgot password” and one will be emailed to you. If you are unsure go ahead and create a new account and add your family members.

Note: New accounts are defaulted to NONResident until confirmed in person at the Arrowhead Community Center with proof of residency. Some programs may not be available for online registration. Facilities and rentals are not available online.

1. Carefully complete the Channahon Park District registration form on page 58. Registration forms are also available at Arrowhead Community Center, Heritage Crossing Field House or online at www.channahonpark.org. Include all names, ages, course names and numbers, phone numbers and address. Under 18? Waiver must be signed by parent or guardian. Waivers not filled out correctly may not be processed. Only one family per registration form.

REFUND REQUEST PROCEDURE The Channahon Park District understands that schedules change and things come up that prevent participation in programs that have been registered for. It is our intent to refund your money whenever possible. We ask that you understand that in order to maintain the integrity of our programs that the following guidelines have been developed: 1. Patrons requesting a refund are asked to complete refund request form. Forms are available at Arrowhead Community Center, Heritage Crossing Field House or downloadable on our www.channahonpark.org website from the registration page. 2. All refund requests are subject to approval. Filling out the form does not guarantee a refund.

2. Payment for all activities must be made at time of registration or registration is not complete. Payments can be made by cash, check or credit card (Visa/Mastercard). Returned checks will result in a $20 fee.

3. All refunds are assessed a $5.00 processing fee. The fee is waived if you choose to have a credit put on your account or receive a Park District gift card.

The Channahon Park District encourages individuals registering for Fitness Center membership or other strenuous/physical programs to obtain a physician’s approval prior to registering. 6. MULTIPLE CHILD DISCOUNT Families registering multiple children for Youth Sport Leagues, Ryuku Kempo Karate, After the Bell (monthly or yearly plan) or Day Camp Programs are eligible for the following Multiple Child Discount: 1. 10% off a second child’s registration fee for the same program or activity. 2. 15% off each additional child registered for the same program or activity, after the first two registered.

5. Please submit refund requests 3 business days prior to the program/rental start date or listed registration deadline date. 6. Requests for refunds made after the deadline or after class has started will be considered on an individual basis and are subject to approval. Refunds issued after program start dates will be prorated. Participants will be charged for classes that have taken place, attended or not, based on the date the refund request form was received. 7. No refunds will be granted after the third class meeting with the exception of a medical reason. Refunds for medical reasons must be requested within 10 days following completion of the program or activity and a doctor’s note will be required with the refund request. 8. Refunds will not be issued for the portion of the program fees paid for unrecoverable expense such as contractual instructor fees, tickets, trips, t-shirts, books, and other expense after the program registration/refund deadline.
