A 501(c)3 not for profit organization, PFCP solicits support for the Channahon Park District through volunteerism, gifts and grants, memberships, and planned giving opportunities. Under a mission statement of “providing opportunities for the preservation of open space and the development of recreational opportunities within the Channahon Park District”, PFCP is an important asset to expanding the quality of life the area enjoys. The Foundation Board of Trustees includes President Michael F. Rittof; Vice President Scott Slocum; and Trustees DeWitt Buchanan, Joanne Carnagio, John Cotter, David Landahl, Ronald D. Lehman, Raymond McSteen, Tim Rissman, David Rumsey, Brian Smith and Jayne Yudzentis. Honorary Trustees are George Barr and George A. McCoy. The Foundation is working with the Park District to raise funds and develop the district’s newest park - Arroyo Trails, A Discovery Woodlands. The unique project will attract youth, families, schools, scouts, camps and others. Preliminary features include trails, an outdoor classroom, interpretive stations, a shelter with restrooms, educational areas, and nature based play including a unique playground.

Youth & Community Garden

We would like to extend the opportunity to visit and enjoy the garden to the members of our community! Join us this summer in caring for and enjoying the fresh produce that’s grown in our Youth & Community Garden. Located in front of Arrowhead Community Center, the garden is a product of a joint partnership between the University of Illinois Master Gardeners, the Channahon School District, and the Channahon Park District to provide an educational and healthy learning opportunity for the children in our community. Students at the Three Rivers School start the garden in the spring by growing the plants from seed and then transferring them to the garden beds at the park district. Over the summer, campers participate in watering and maintaining the garden. Campers also participate in garden activities and make healthy snacks with the fresh produce. All are welcomed to visit the garden, pick a tomato or two, and enjoy!

Volunteer Coaches Needed!

Volunteer coaches are needed for our youth sports leagues. Our youth leagues continue to be a great experience for the children in the community. Volunteer coaches are a big reason these leagues have been so successful. Please support your son or daughter, get involved and sign up to be coach! Volunteers receive a $25 Park District credit to be used towards future programs or activities. Coaches clinics available! Please Note: Due to the size and nature of sports leagues, requests to accommodate individual schedules and preferences cannot be honored. Please be sure that your child will be available for practices and games according to the schedule given by coaches.

Youth Sports Blind-Draft Policy

In order to provide every child with fair and equal treatment, a blind draft process will form the teams. Due to the large number of registrants in our youth sports programs and the attempt to keep teams equal, we cannot accommodate special requests for specific coaches or teammates. Only the head coach and one assistant coach will be allowed to request that their children be placed on the same team.

Understandably, not all hazards and dangers can be foreseen. Depending on the particular activity, participants must understand that certain risks, dangers and injuries due to inclement weather, slipping, falling, poor skill level or conditioning, carelessness, horseplay, unsportsmanlike conduct, premises defects, inadequate or defective equipment, inadequate supervision, instruction or officiating, and all other circumstances inherent to indoor and outdoor recreational activities/programs exist. I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in these programs/activities and I voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity, that my minor child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. I further agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my minor child/ward may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of participating in these programs/activities against the Channahon Park District, including its officials, agents, volunteers and employees (hereinafter collectively referred as “Channahon Park District”). I do hereby fully release and forever discharge the Channahon Park District from any and all claims for injuries, damages, or loss that my minor child/ward or I may have or which may accrue to me or my minor child/ward and arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with these programs/activities.
