WE WELCOME YOU Throughout Ventura and its surrounding areas, countless people know about the Ventura Family YMCA. But there’s so much more to our Y than one might think. From exercise to education, from aerobics to advocacy, from fitness to financial assistance, the Y doesn’t just strengthen our bodies. It strengthens our communities. The Y is so much more than a gym. It’s a cause, dedicated to youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. For 133 years, we’ve been proud to help our neighbors learn, grow, and thrive. Yet we’re called to do so much more. Everyday, our local communities face new challenges which creates a greater need for the work we do. Fortunately, where some see obstacles, we see opportunities for our members, volunteers, and staff to make a difference. OUR MISSION The Channel Islands YMCA is a charitable organization providing programs based upon Christian principles to men, women and children of all ages, races, religious beliefs and economic status to develop and enrich the spirit, mind and body. OUR CAUSE Every day we work side-by-side with our neighbors to make sure that everyone, regardless of age, income or background, has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive. HOW WE DO IT There is no other nonprofit quite like the Y. In 10,000 neighborhoods across the nation, we have the presence and partnerships to not just promise, but deliver lasting personal and social change.

WHY AN ACA-ACCREDITED CAMP? ACA Accreditation means that your child’s summer camp cares enough to undergo a thorough peer review of its operation — from staff qualifications and training to emergency management. American Camp Association collaborates with experts from the American Academy of Pediatrics, the American Red Cross, and other youth-serving agencies to assure that current practices at your child’s camp reflect the most up-to-date, research-based standards in camp operation. SAFETY AT CAMP This summer your child’s safety is our top concern. Our camps are accredited by the American Camping Association, who independently audit requirements related to staff, supervision, programming and environment quality In addition, we have operating guidelines in place that prevent the spread of COVID -19 during care. We meet or exceed all COVID -19 standards outlined by the California Department of Health’s camp industry guidelines. This summer we will have implemented daily health screenings, the encouragement of social distancing, use of masks, contact free check-in, stable groups of children, and a strict stay home if you are sick policy. In addition, we have increased our cleaning and disinfecting practices, the promotion of healthy hygiene, and staff training to minimize the spread of COVID -19. We have protocols in place should a case occur and have been operating successful youth programs since the pandemic started. While things may look different in camp this year, our commitment to a fun and engaging summer remains.

KEEPING KIDS LEARNING Summer learning loss is a worry for many parents. The facts are, the equivalent of one month of learning is lost after summer vacation and school year transitions related to the COVID-19 pandemic have put many students behind for a fall start already. While the Ventura Family YMCA’s Summer Camp focus is on recreation, the Y has a responsibility to help families promote learning over the summer. This summer we are committed to: •

Promoting 30 minutes of reading after lunch, studies show that being a bookworm is one of the best ways to sharpen spelling and grammar skills!

Inviting in vendors and taking fieldtrips that reflect academic interests, hopefully we can spark some excitement of a new subject!

Providing at least two art projects each week, being creative helps brain development and is helpful for all areas of learning!

Sending home daily behavior reports and rewarding role model behavior, positive interactions with others and following directions are important to school success!
