Dear YMCA Family & Friends,
We have an exciting future ahead for the San Luis Obispo County YMCA. We could not be more excited to share that we have officially merged with the Channel Islands YMCA. Becoming part of a larger family of YMCAs will mean our community impact will be even greater moving forward. I want to take a moment to thank the San Luis Obispo County YMCA board for their steadfast dedication and leadership during this transition. So many of you saw the great potential in joining together and steered our Y to a future of where we can continue to make an impact for years to come.
This past year the SLO County YMCA has once again made an impact throughout the county. From raising over $200,000 during our Annual Support Campaign to supporting over 1,400 children with childcare and sport opportunities, our support has been an essential force for good in the San Luis Obispo community and beyond. I am personally inspired by the unwavering dedication of our volunteers and community partners, who have been instrumental in creating a transformative impact for so many.
We truly are stronger together.
Sincerely,
Margo Byrne, CEOOUR FOCUS AREAS

PEOPLE SERVED
Eric Linkugel, Board ChairA MESSAGE FROM THE BOARD
Dear YMCA Family & Friends,
Service to the community is one of the key attributes of the Y, and we are so proud to be a part of bringing our community together at the San Luis Obispo County YMCA. While some members only need the Y for the gym and workout facilities, countless families in SLO County have benefitted from our programs and services.
As the Y closes out 2023 and kicks off a healthy 2024, we continue to push for continual progress within our three areas of focus:
• Youth Development
• Healthy Living
• Social Responsibility
This past year saw an increase in the number of childcare sites that offer education and daycare assistance to families throughout the county both before and after school. Through our scholarship programs, the increase in childcare sites also means an increase in the number of families who are able to receive these services at lowered costs or no-cost options, allowing those parents to work on addressing financial needs at home. Additionally, more kids in our community now have an opportunity to interact with others outside of the classroom for increased social skills, homework assistance, and the opportunity in many locations to learn more about selecting and preparing healthy food alternatives.
For those of you who visit our fitness facility in San Luis Obispo, you’ve already likely seen the completion of the locker room renovation project, which now adds more accessible changing/shower facilities to our members and families, while also increasing the space available for workouts. We now have a spinning and yoga room downstairs, making it more accessible to our members. For those of you who have not yet had a chance to see the new improvements, we encourage you to please come by to take a look.
As we look forward to our first year as part of the larger Channel Islands Y family, the SLO YMCA will have additional resources available to assist our efforts to provide more for you and your families. Here’s to our ever-expanding future together!
Sincerely,
Eric LinkugelTHANK YOU TO OUR VOLUNTEERS
Volunteerism & philanthropy are at the center of what makes the SLO County YMCA such a thriving community-oriented organization in our county. In 2023, we utilized over 4,270 volunteer hours in capacities ranging from youth sports coach to our board chair and Chief Volunteer Officer. Of those 4,270 volunteer hours, over 1,000 of them were served directly by our board members and/or the advisory committees. Some of the major accomplishments include raising $216,000 during Annual Support Campaign, impacting more than 800 youth in our sports programming, completion of a beautification project at our facility’s Kids Zone, completing a major locker room remodel, and supporting our staff team through a tremendous year of transition. Thank you to all our volunteers who supported our pursuit of serving our mission and growing our organization’s impact in 2023!
In 2023, volunteers gave 4,270 hours of their time to the YMCA and their community.
