THE
STORY OF OUR YEAR 2015-16 ANNUAL REPORT CHANNEL ISLANDS YMCA
The Channel Islands YMCA is a charitable organization providing programs based upon Christian principles to men, women and children of all ages, races, religious beliefs and economic status to develop and enrich the spirit, mind and body. Each photo used in this report is of actual members impacted by the work of the Channel Islands YMCA.
Dear YMCA Family and Friends, The story of the Channel Islands YMCA in 2015-16 is one of impact – the precise gauge we use to measure our success. Success at the Y is visible when we strengthen the lives of the individuals within our communities. How does the Y strengthen the community? Through our staff, we provide words of encouragement and support, while our innovative programs fill gaps in a community and empower members of all ages to achieve their goals and become a better version of themselves. Working together, our donors, volunteers and staff provide resources to the people who need them most: those who might not otherwise have the financial ability to take advantage of Y’s services. In 2015-16, through the efforts of our dedicated staff and volunteer campaigners and the generous donations from individuals and corporations, the Channel Islands YMCA collectively raised over a million dollars. Those dollars provide safe, high-quality, character-building programs for children and teens, and establish healthy lifestyles and connectivity for adults, families and seniors. Unlike membership fees that pay for facilities, staffing and operations, donated dollars stay at each branch to provide financial assistance to those in our communities in need of services that the Y provides. Browse through these pages for a small taste of the impact the Y has had in Ventura and Santa Barbara counties this year.
Sally Irving, Board Chair
On behalf of everyone at the Y, we thank you for your commitment to our mission. - Sally and Sal

“You can go against the odds and be successful with the help of generous organizations like the Y. The financial aid for the afterschool program helped ease the financial pressure that I have as a single mother of three and allowed me to place my focus on my family and work. - Teresa

crisis calls made to Support and Outreach Services, where at-risk youth could find help 24 hours a day for problems they faced at home or in school.
During the year, 726 youth—many living on the street—dropped into Noah’s Anchorage. There, they found basic needs, like food, socks, sleeping bags and toothbrushes. Through this program, countless youth also received healthcare education, referrals, counseling and case management.
“The YMCA gave me the opportunity to be a part of something greater than myself. To create a real piece of legislature, to run for office, to find what it means to dream for a future that affects not only you, but the world around you. The YMCA is where I turned my can’ts into cans, my hopes into dreams and my dreams into a future reality.” - Madison, Youth & Government participant

“As an overweight cancer survivor who had recently lost my husband, I knew I had to change my life.
My LIVESTRONG® at the Y instructors were kind and patient and provided individual attention to all participants. After 12 weeks, my fitness level improved and I had shed 25 pounds. I can’t express my thanks enough to the Y and the instructors who were so much a part of my transformation.” - Anna, LIVESTRONG® at the Y participant
