Fernando M. was a member of the Teen Membership program when he first joined the YMCA. During his time he was one of the most involved and active members of the program. As Fernando continued to participate in the program he also began to develop relationships with the staff and with this began to share his story of how far he has come and the obstacles that he has overcome to achieve his goals. Fernando found a safe place in the YMCA even after he had graduated and sought out staff whenever he was seeking guidance or simply wanted to share his life updates. Fernando’s main goal is to go into the Marines and has been working diligently to make that happen, during his time within the program he has continued to not only develop himself from a physical standpoint but also to help him become a more well rounded individual and feel even more empowered to achieve the goals that he has set out for himself. As Fernando continues on his journey of joining the Marines, the YMCA family continues to be one of his biggest cheerleaders.
