“I have two kids who began participating in the Monte Vista YMCA afterschool program as Kindergarteners. In a household with two parents working full-time, childcare has been an integral part of our lives since the kids were born. Nevertheless, transitioning to elementary school was a little confusing and a little overwhelming. While many parents are able to show up when school is let out, there are many of us who have to trust that our kids are going to be met after school by someone else and spend the hours somewhere safe. I learned very quickly how lucky we are to have the YMCA afterschool program. The YMCA staff are our village, and I am continually impressed with their hard work, dedication, compassion, and commitment to providing a community and safe space for our kids. The time my kids spend at the YMCA afterschool program is often the most formative and enjoyable part of their day. The kids and staff have become an important community, and our kids look forward to and appreciate the time they spend together with their YMCA family. We are so impressed by the effort put into the schedule and creation of activities and programs that help our kids grow, and that they enjoy.”
