Chapel was founded in 1947 by the priests of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate Order with the aim of providing education for children from English-speaking Catholic families. Initially housed in a small building in the Jardins neighborhood, it is now located in Chácara Flora, a quiet residential area in São Paulo. Chapel School is a member of the National Catholic Educational Association, the Association of American Schools in Brazil, the Association of American Schools in South America, and the National Honor Society. The institution is accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO), Brazil’s Ministry of Education (MEC) and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). As a member of NEASC, Chapel School must ensure educational excellence by continuously evaluating its curriculum, mission and vision.
Chapel School offers pre-school, elementary, and high school curricula with American and Brazilian programs, as well as the International Baccalaureate in high school. With approximately 730 students from more than 20 countries, the respect for cultural diversity is emphasized in the educational context. The partnership between faculty and families allows for individualized attention to each student’s developmental, intellectual and personal growth.
Religious backgrounds are just as diverse, and families of all faiths and creeds are enrolled. The language of instruction for all courses with the exception of those required by the Brazilian program is English.
Chapel’s graduates attend the best colleges in the US, Brazil, Europe, Canada and Asia. A dedicated counselor, specialized in university admissions, offers students and parents individual advice on the enrollment process. The guidance department also organizes annuals fairs with American, Brazilian, European, and Canadian universities.
Involvement in extracurricular activities is of utmost importance, and students enrich their academic experience through participation in sports, publications, art, and music.
Chapel follows the North American school calendar with the school year beginning in August and ending in June. A five-week break occurs in December/January, and again in June/July.
As an American international school, Chapel prepares its students for achievement on a global level. The community works together to ensure the success of each of its members, and takes pride in the fact that we are an extended family.
