1. Turn the dial to pacing. The rate will automatically show 70 bmp unless institution configured it otherwise. ECG P2 is the standard, but it can also be ECG P1 OR P3, but not for diagnostic test neither one, only for pacing purposes.

2. Increase the output by turning dial clockwise.

Normal range for capture is between 40 and 80 milliamps mA. The minimum output that obtain capture is the PATIENT TRESHOLD

Once patient treshold obatained, increase the output about 10% more. Confirm electrical capture by viewing a DOWNWARD PACING SPIKE follow immediately by widen QRS and extended, sometimes enlarged T wave ocurring at the selected pacing rate. The intrinsic rhythm should be absent.

3. Confirm mechanical capture by palpating femoral artery, right brachial or right radial pulses.

4. At any time during pacing, the 4:1 button can be used to determine the patient's underlying rhythm.

Press and hold the 4:1 button

This supresses 3 or 4 pacer impulses to visualize the underlying rhythm/rate without loosing capture.

For pacing times in excess of two hours Zoll recommend to use Pro-padz with liquid gell.
