All current West Virginia fellows in a cardiology training program are invited to present their research (past or present) during the poster session, scheduled for Saturday, November 21. Eligible posters may present recent data, case study or information that has been presented previously at a local or national meeting. The accepted abstracts will be presented as posters and judged at the poster presentation on Saturday, November 21. There are cash prizes for winners! The winner of the West Virginia-ACC poster competition will be invited to participate in a New! Best FIT (Fellows in Training) Poster Awards National Competition at ACC.10 in Atlanta. The ACC.10 registration fee will be waived; although the College is unable to reimburse for travel, hotel and per diem expenses. As a semi-finalist in the national competition, your poster must be displayed for the entire length of the meeting. Experts will judge the posters according to set criterion; prizes will be awarded to the top national winners and announced at the popular ACC.10 and i2 Summit Highlights session on Tuesday, March 16, 2010. As the West Virginia-ACC poster winner participating in the ACC.10 Best FIT Poster Awards National Competition, you must withdraw any other duplicate abstract(s) that have been submitted and accepted in either the general ACC/i2 Summit or Young Investigators Awards programs. To learn more, please visit www.accwv.org.
Cardiovascular disease is the leading health care problem throughout the world. In the United States alone, an estimated 70 million people have been diagnosed with one or more forms of cardiovascular disease (CV), and over 910,000 Americans die from CV disease each year. The cardiac care team is increasingly asked to develop systems of care, the methods for which are not necessarily part of the traditional medical training. We are asked to do this better, faster, more efficiently and at a lower cost.
Overall G oal Physicians and cardiac care associates are required to maintain up-to-date knowledge of the latest clinical developments in the practice of cardiology to improve patient outcomes. The goal of this program is to improve the competency of the health care team in the practice of cardiology and to facilitate the transfer of knowledge into practice. The West Virginia Chapter-ACC Annual Meeting will include education that provides needs-based learning covering a thorough overview of atrial fibrillation, electronic medical records, anti-thrombotic therapy and anti-platelet therapy, health care reform, percutaneous valves, pre-operative cardiac clearance for non-cardiac surgery, alternative and integrative approaches to cardiology, and CT angiography and cardiac MR.
