In the hall Take action on your Vision for a Better World! As a 'National Finalist’ you have reflected upon your character and values and your 'Vision for a better World’; we want to help you bring this vision to life!

Apprenticeships in Scotland is a social enterprise project run by young people under a unique apprenticeship scheme called Apprenticeships in Enterprise. A team of youth opportunities advisers will be on hand to discuss the different opportunities available for young people, how they can use their key character strengths in the future and to share their own personal experiences of achieving their vision.

We are delighted to introduce you to the following organisations that can provide you with opportunities to use your character strengths and take action on your vision, now and in the future. Please take time to meet them while viewing your poster in the Hunter Hall and find out how you can get involved today.

g in k a M e h t in s Global Citizen This year we have achieved participation in 42 of the 71 Commonwealth Nations and Territories; please visit the ‘International Poster Area’ in the Hunter Hall to see their work, you can also see them here: www.inspire-aspire.org.uk/international For the 2014-2015 phase of the programme we want to build upon the Legacy of the Glasgow 2014 Games as they move on to Gold Coast 2018 by helping as many young people as possible share their experience of life; because by developing young people’s knowledge of the world and their country’s place in it and their understanding of their global peers’ beliefs, values and goals we can help create true Global Citizens who are prepared for life and active participation in a global multicultural society. Next year we will reach out to the remaining 29 areas so that we achieve our intention of making a significant contribution to best practice in character and global citizenship education. WWI : Values from History SCOTLAND

The Centenary commemorations for the First World War will begin in 2014. We have created a new poster programme to mark this centenary and provide an opportunity for selfdiscovery and personal development, helping young people to find the inspiration to develop aspirations for life. Completing the poster will help students to learn about values from history and the heroic stories of those who fought and suffered on the front, often making the ultimate sacrifice. In the process students learn new things about themselves about others and about history. A small number of schools have helped to pilot the poster this year. The top primary and secondary posters are on display. The student’s named below will receive an award. NER: Jessica PRIMARY WIN

The Thank You Film Awards, run by the Jubilee Centre for Character and Virtues at the University of Birmingham, is a national competition exploring what young people are grateful for. Young filmmakers were invited to make a film to thank a person, group or organisation that has really inspired them, made their life better or improved their local community, Britain or the world! Over 100 films were submitted to the competition and awards ceremonies have been held in Manchester, Birmingham and London.

The shortlisted films in Scotland are:

INVERURIE ACADEMY – THANK YOU TO ORGAN DONORS Zoe Smith, Jess Smith, Kamila Koper.

The anniversary of the First World War cannot only be about remembering sacrifice but it is also an opportunity to ensure that young people understand how conflict can easily arise out of ambition, prejudice and arrogance. Selfawareness and self-understanding can be powerful influences against reasons to the use of force in all circumstances, which is why I support his project.

Rt Hon Sir Menzies Campbell, CH, CBE

For more info or to take part please visit:

www.inpsire-aspire.org.uk/ww1

The winner and runner up will be announced during the course of the evening, and the winning film will be screened.

Thank you to all the schools and students who made films, and to the members of staff who supported them!
