ZITF 2014: An Award Winning Campaign Technology, innovation and new ways of doing business were the hallmarks of this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair. The exhibition held under the theme, “New Ideas to New Heights,” saw ZITF rise to the challenge of providing value-based digital services that enhance interactions between exhibitors and their target audience. This was seen from the introduction of a mobile application for the event. The mobile app launch, code-named “ZITF Goes Digital Campaign” earned the ZITF Company a spot among the top four finalists for the 2014 UFI Marketing Award competition. UFI, The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry organises the yearly award with the aim of rewarding the best marketing initiatives undertaken by exhibition professionals worldwide. This year’s Marketing Award competition was meant to identify outstanding efforts and best practices in the use of digital devices in the field. Thus the nomination showed ZITF’s recognition of the need to evolve and reflect the new demands of the exhibition industry by embracing digital technology.

Compatible with all smart phone operating systems, the app was designed to enhance the event experience for participants by changing the way they interact and engage. It allowed participants to access comprehensive exhibition information such as exhibitor lists and floor plans, to plan their schedules and to pre-arrange meetings with key potential contacts through the integrated online matchmaking tool. With ZITF 2015 fast approaching, the 2015 app will offer a good opportunity to stay abreast of the latest information such as exhibitor lists, stand location and participant profiles as well as conference and workshop details. Mine Entra 2014: A High-Quality Show “Zimbabwean mining show attracts foreign interest,” “Mine Entra catering for mining sector’s needs,” “Mine Entra ends on a high note.” These were some of the positive headlines made by this year’s premier mining, engineering and transport expo, Mine Entra 2014. a mobile application for the event. In its 19th year of existence the show attracted high-quality participation from over 200 participants who occupied 93% of the targeted space. The focused and compact expo enjoyed strong foreign support which was seen by many as an expression of confidence in the exhibition and in Zimbabwe’s mining sector.

Feedback received from both exhibitors and business visitors was positive and the organisers were given credit for a professionally-organised, highly-interactive show with quality exhibits and buyers. Our foreign and first-time exhibitors were especially awed: “Frankly speaking, we didn’t expect so much state of the art equipment that we saw here in Zimbabwe. This is our first time in Africa and Zimbabwe and we are very impressed,” commented Mr. Christian Hofheinz, German-Belt GMB H. WASHen 2014: New Kid on the Block The launch of the water, sanitation, hygiene and energy confex, WASHen brings to six, the number of sector-specific expos organised by the ZITF Company. Held in September of this year, the one-of-a-kind conference and exhibition saw participants showcasing and discussing innovative ideas, products, services and technologies in the water, sanitation and energy sectors. The WASHen conferences had speakers delivering stimulating presentations while delegates engaged in rousing discussions and debate. Also popular with delegates was the complimentary tour of Southern Areas Water Treatment Works (SAST), courtesy of the City of Bulawayo. The inaugural confex was lauded as a success with exhibitors, delegates and visitors expressing a keen interest in seeing a second edition of WASHen. “It was a great platform for exposure and awareness on WASH issues. l hope next time we will have more players in these sectors from outside Zimbabwe,” remarked Mr Duncan Chihota, BioAquavitae.
