September 2014: Issue 29

Curtain Comes Down on WASHen 2014 The inaugural edition of Zimbabwe’s one-of-a-kind water, sanitation, hygiene and energy confex (WASHen) held in Bulawayo, from 25-26 September, came to a successful end leaving exhibitors, delegates and visitors impressed. They all expressed keen interest in seeing a second edition of WASHen. “It was a great platform for exposure and awareness on WASH issues. l hope next time we will have more players in these sectors from outside Zimbabwe,” said Mr Duncan Chihota from BioAquavitae.

The expo side of the event had 83% of the targeted space occupied by the various exhibitors who came from around Zimbabwe. The expo also attracted one foreign exhibitor from South Africa, Watercare. In the spirit of realising socio-economic development as postulated by the ZimAsset economic blueprint and Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), WASHen 2014 had its focus on participants showcasing and discussing innovative ideas, products, services and technologies in the water, sanitation and energy sectors. The event was held under the theme “Innovative Solutions for Sustainable Development.”

The conferences lived up to their themes and saw speakers delivering stimulating presentations while delegates engaged in rousing discussions and debate. Also popular with delegates was the complimentary tour of Southern Areas Water Treatment Works (SAST), courtesy of the City of Bulawayo. “The conference program was quite good and highly informative,” noted Ms Blessing Tagwirei from ZINWA.

The two-day event was officially opened by the Minister of Environment, Water and Climate, Hon Saviour Kasukuwere on 25 September. “My Ministry will ensure that water for all intended purpose will be available to ensure the socio-economic development of our country,” said Hon Kasukuwere, in a speech read on his behalf by the Deputy Director in the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate, Mr G Mawere. With the positive and encouraging feedback received for WASHen 2014, we are confident that the second edition will offer enhanced networking and business opportunities. ZITF 2015 Marketing Campaign Launched The night of the WASHen 2014 Official Opening also saw the official launch of the ZITF 2015 Marketing Campaign & Theme Unveiling. The multi-sectoral international exhibition will run from April 21-25, under the theme “Stimulating Trade … Seizing opportunities to accelerate growth.” In line with current economic discourse, the ZITF 2015 theme is all about growth. The theme also takes into account that regardless of a country’s development levels, for any meaningful growth to occur, trade stimulation must take the centre stage. The theme is therefore a call to business to take part in seizing opportunities towards valuable trade. Sale and uptake of exhibition stands has already begun. Contact our Exhibitions coordinator Mr. C. Dobola on coordinator2@zitf.co.zw to reserve a prime exhibition stand or for more information. Do look out for next month’s “Focus on ZITF 2015” E-news edition where we will further discuss the ZITF 2015 theme and how you can seize opportunities to accelerate your business growth and get our economy thriving again. Let’s keep in touch via Email, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google+. Till next time...
