Design Proposal for Gulin New Town Plan [ Regionalism / Globalization ] 2011.09-2012.01 Location: Sichuan Province, China Program: Urban Design and Sustainable Development Research Assistant: Rendering/ Design Development Collaborated with: Urban Design Lab, Earth Institute Realization: Under Approval

I

• New Gulin is envisioned to be a regenerative, harmonious and sustainable city. Our approach is to propose a Tapestry green of Gulin constituted by 5-color passages, including civic plaza, market place, vitality plaza, green sanctuary, park of prospect. • The design for a socially and culturally vibrant, ecologically-balanced urban center is integral to strategical planning for the city, as well as environmental protection and conservation of resources.

Archipelago Itaquera [ Favela Resettlement ] 2012.02-05

Master Plan for Sao Paulo Gov.

Location: Sao Paulo, Brazil Program: Urban design Collaborated with: X.M. Zhang, Z.T. Jiao Institution: GSAPP, Columbia University Selected Work: Presented to Sao Paulo City Department of Urban Planning

III

• This project utilizes the residual spaces of the proposed master plan for Itaquera to integrate land parcels that have been separated by topography and road infrastructures. Through the implementation of new programs, such as, pedestrian paths, public spaces, new housing typologies , artisan studios, a new subway, and a monorail station, Archipelago Itaquera encourages the continuous linkage between local and the regional programs.

East Harlem Low Line [ Landscape / Ecology ] 2011.06-08 Location: East Harlem, New York Program: Urban design and Landscape Collaborated with: H. Allawi, F. Stewart Institution: GSAPP, Columbia University Selected Work: Exhibited at Studio-X NYC

IV

• We are proposing to create a transformative superimposed infrastructure which connects the overloaded Manhattan side of East Harlem to the underutilized Randall’s Island and re-think the space of the waterfront to improve health issues faced by the community. • The Low Line is a tidal multipurpose landscape across the water, encouraging people to take part in an array of programs which are an extension of activities and events that already occur in the community in unhealthy settings.

Axes Regeneration [ Preservation / Renovation ] 2009.09-11 Location: Zhengding, Hebei Province, China Program: Historic area renovation/ Housing Solo Work (Academic) Institution: Tsinghua University Realization: Under Approval Published in On-site Survey Collection of The Preservation Planning of Zhengding, 2009.11

V

• Historic cities in China have complexities with development and conservation. Zhengding is such a centuries-old city where several pagodas of national treasure are blocked by low-density residence. The concept is to revive the influence of pagodas by regenerating their cross axes through communities and all over the city. Axis I ——Open space for the community/ Landscape corridor for the city Axis II ——Commercial area for the community/ Axis rehabilitation for the city

• Shanghai Brand-Name City is designed to become a dramatic new destination and incubator for new fashion industry. Based on the concept of metamorphosis of the chrysalis into a graceful butterfly, the site evolves into a willowy and fluid levels, while creating an energetic focal point for fashion designers, retailers, distributors, businesses, and tourists. The site was consititued by 4 sections for fashion industry companies of different scales to satisfy different demands.

Ningbo Museum Competition [ Culture / Exhibition ] 2008.06-08 Location: Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China Program: Museum Collaborated with: In+of Architecture Institution: Tsinghua University Selected Work: Finalist

VII

• Ningbo, locating in the east coast of China, is a historical and cultural city as well as a busy port. We appreciate the approach embodied in regional architecture of searching for solutions by following context, whereby the human intimacy with and sensibility towards Nature are manifested. • Ningbo Museum is a comprehensive museum with geographical features, showing the history of humanities and arts. The concept is to compare the Ningbo Museum as a ship carrying a set of containers loaded with historical and cultural treasures.

Foundation Stone Laying Ceremony

Location: Beijing, China Program: Education Assistant Architect: Construction document drawings Institution: Tsinghua ADRI. Scale: Site area 64,913 m2, Building area 33,520 m2 Realization: Built in 2011

VIII

• The main components of the campus are teaching buildings, office buildings, a natatorium, a dormitory, a dining hall and playgrounds. By carefully calibrating and consolidating available land, the campus is envisioned to provide a comfortable atmosphere for studying under maximum utilization. The construction document drawings of the natatorium mainly focus on the swimming pool and its details. Also we are trying to control the cost within limited budget by designing elevations and choosing materials.

Beijing Shiye Tower Design 2009.12-2010.02

The vision of Beijing CBD

Location: Beijing, China Program: Office Building Intern Architect: modeling, design development Institution: Architectural Design and Research Institute of Tsinghua Univ. National Competition: Finalist

IX

• Beijing Shiye Tower is located in CBD in Beijing facing Changan Street. The Beijing CBD is currently undergoing large-scale development which has attracted 117 Fortune 500 businesses. • In this case, instead of standing out with high cost, a better attitude to the context could be to integrate the building into background and share its beauty. We believe the headquarters will live in harmony with other buildings to reinforce the prosperous financial district. As the headquarters for Shiye Company, it should allow flexible layouts to meet diverse demands.

Wenchuan Earthquake Memorial Park [ 2008 Autodesk Revit Competition ] 2008.09-11 Location: Sichuan Province, China Program: Museum Solo Work (Academic) Institution: Tsinghua University Selected Work: National Prize of Excellence Memorial Ceremony for Wenchuan

X

• On 5/12/2012, a magnitude eight earthquake ripped through China’s Sichuan province, killing nearly 70,000 and leaving hundreds of thousands homeless. • The sequence of exhibition tries to represent the tragedy not only physically but spiritually and evoke a serial of emotions by controlling skylight environments. In the light of spirit, visitors could pray for the souls of the departed. In the light of life, people are shown about how survivors of the earthquake suffer from homelessness just like the floating water wave shaped light reflected on walls. Finally, visitors are led to the light of hope as for strong wills and bright futures.
