S SUPPORT LOCALS–FIRST AT THE MARKET!

The past two years have been quite challenging for local shops and stores. In 2021 shopping and dining started to return to a state of normalcy. As 2022 begins, there is optimism that this will be the year that shopping and dining will complete the comeback from the pandemic.

With life getting back to normal, we encourage shoppers to shop locally. Every penny spent in Fayette and Coweta counties benefi ts local store owners, employees, and families. Opportunities to shop local abound, from open air malls to farmers markets to locally owned shops and trendy boutiques, the area has you covered. One of the best ways to support locals fi rst is to visit farmers markets and similar markets.

■ Peachtree City Market Vegetables, fruits and meats direct from farm to the Peachtree City Market, plus gifts with a backdrop of music make it a favorite for all. Over 50 vendors, including food truc, set up their displays of fresh, in-season, locally grown fruits and vegetables, grass-fed meats, homemade breads, goat cheese, coffees, teas, jams, honey, pottery, fl owers, soap, and more. The Market is held every Wednesday and Saturday morning in the parking lot at

Aberdeen Shopping Village—9am to 1pm for the regular market season and 10am to 1pm, during the winter season.

Visitors can choose from barbeque to Tex Mex and everything in between. Craft beer, mixed drinks and wine are also available. Musical entertainment is scheduled throughout the night. Night Market takes place on the second Saturday night of the month from March through December, beginning at 5pm. In 1965 Fred Smith and Ronald Davis partnered to establish Smith & Davis Clothing. The store provided work wear, shoes, and dress apparel for the primarily rural communities of Fayette and Coweta Counties. Mr. Davis bought Fred Smith’s part of the business in 1973 and continued to run the store. Today, Mr. Davis’ children, Tony, George, and Beth all take part in the successful running of the business.

In the 57 years since it opened, Smith & Davis has seen changes in the times, fashions, and even their location. 1979 was the fi rst expansion to a new larger location and then in 1988 the current 20,000 square foot building was built. The one thing that has remained the same is the commitment to quality merchandise and exemplary customer service.

In recent years, the store has welcomed new faces into the buying, management, and marketing portions of the business. Like Tony always says, “I know my limitations”. Ted Patterson and Andrea Davis now handle the majority of the buying, while Samuel Perez is in charge of the marketing department. All three work together to manage the store.

Nearby Peachtree City is known for its abundance of runners and tri-athletes, and Smith & Davis has become a Running Specialist and is a trusted shoe source for runners in the area. At Smith & Davis, their non-commissioned Run Specialists take the time to not only give you what you want, but what you need. The process begins with a foot scan on their Gait Analysis machine that shows what type of arch, and level of pronation each runner has. All of this is designed to better fi t you for running, casual, work, and leisure footwear. This service has reached the ears (and feet) of doctors and physical therapists around the area.

But shoes aren’t the only thing they are known for – their clothing selection covers a wide range of choices. From heavy duty work wear to athletic, casual and dress clothing, they have it all.

The ladies side of the building has evolved into a more boutiquelike presence, stocking the latest in seasonal fashions & accessories, along with the most popular name brands in outdoor apparel.

If you haven’t been to Smith & Davis, do yourself a favor and go visit them. You’ll be surprised at volume and a variety of clothing, shoes, accessories, and more that is hidden in this gem of a store, just outside of Peachtree City. i
