• System AREF
The AREF fire protection SubRack uses an extinguishing agent which is extremely ecological called Aerosol. This extinguishing agent opens new opportunities in the against, especially for the fire protection of electrical / electronic machineries placed in the panels. Applications: Naval (engines and electrical/electronic panels) Railway (electrical/electronic panels) Automotive (engine spaces) Application for outdoors extinction Industry and Commerce (fire protection in electrical/electronic panels). The Aerosol generator is not under pressure, it is activated through an electric contact (700mA).

This generator produces a type of Aerosol with particulates which is effective on flames, and obtains the extinguishing by stopping the chain of free radicals generated from the combustion, without reducing the oxygen threshold. The extinguishing is reached in a time that can vary from 3 to 30 seconds. Some tests developed from European authorities on security and prevention TUV have confirmed that the aerosol are able to remove explosions caused by gas mixtures. Extinction capacity The Aerosol is able to extinguish with a capacity of 30g/m3 which allows to use containers of small dimensions compared to the gaseous and liquid extinguishes. People safety The aerosol are not toxic and do not generate chemical reactions harmful
for the environment, nor formation of toxic or corrosive products originated by chlorine mixtures or other chemical substances. It offers a wide guarantee against the possible accidental flame spills. Functioning of the system The system designed by Sema Safety
AREF fire protection Sub-Rack
meets the railway rule EN 50155 and is very suitable for the protection of power electric/electronics panels. The system operates the following functions: - Detection - Extinction Detection The detection may be done through the following equipment: - thermally sensitive cable - detector of pin-point smoke
- thermal probe ( bimetallic ) In the electric panels, according to the type, we can use as detectors both the thermally sensitive cable at 125°C or, for a fast detection, the pinpoint smoke detectors. Power unit of control and management This power unit has been designed and realized in conformity with rules EN 50155 and it has the following functions: - control detection - command the extinguishing - carry out functioning tests both for detection and for extinguishing. Extinguishing The signal coming from the detecting enters a redundant channel of the power unit which carries out presence and action. Checks the signal goes to 1 the power unit activates the fire detection alert and after 2 seconds the
extinguishing occurs by commanding the aerosol and checking their functionality. During maintenance some tests can be done on the power unit in order to check the correct functioning of all the devices which are connected. The power unit, through the 4 signals, communicates to the central vehicle TCMS the functioning of the fire protection system. • Composition of AREF fire protection Sub-Rack
The two units AREF Sub-Rack is composed by: 1 Management, control and diagnostic card; 2 An Aerosol generator; 3 An analogical probe or restoring sensitive cable or smoke detector. The Sub-Rack is modular and two Aerosol modules can be connected, powered and checked by a management card only. All the electrical parts and the Aerosol generator are easily accessibles.
