information you need to know Charlotte Christian Summer Camp Programs will be closed the week of July 2 - 6. Charlotte Christian School does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, creed, or national origin. All camps are open to the general public. Campers should bring a snack and a water bottle each day to camp. All camper belongings should be label with the camper’s name on it. general policies The policies for summer camp students in regard to conduct, courtesy, appearance and honor code will be the same as regular Charlotte Christian School policies. • All campers and visitors are expected to exemplify Jesus Christ and pursue excellence at all times. • Charlotte Christian School operates under an honor code which specifically forbids stealing, cheating or lying. Campers who violate this policy are subject to suspension or dismissal. • Modest and appropriate clothing is required while on campus. Footwear is required at all times. • Boys shall not wear earrings. • No visible body piercing or visible tattoos will be allowed. • Hats, caps or other head coverings are not allowed inside the buildings. • The possession of tobacco, alcoholic beverages, drugs and firearms is not allowed on campus and can lead to an immediate dismissal without refund. • Campers must arrive and be picked up on time. There is a late fee of $10 per 10 minutes. *Charlotte Christian School reserves the right to modify summer camp policies and combine appropriate classes based on enrollment. Safety Charlotte Christian General Campus Safety Guidelines include campus speed limit and that the middle car lane must be left free at all times. Cars are not permitted to park or stop in this lane. Refund Policy All camps are non-refundable within one week of the start of the camp, unless the school cancels a course. Charlotte Christian School reserves the right to combine appropriate camps based on enrollment.
Registration Fee $25 per student one time before May 18 $35 per student one time after May 18 Registration must be completed by Friday, May 18, in order to adequately staff the camp and maintain a fun and safe environment for all. Enrollment in any camp requires one-time per child registration fee that is in addition to the camp fee. A $10 fee is accessed for any changes. The camp fee is due one week prior to the first week of camp. Registraion for the upcoming camp week closes each Friday at 3 p.m. Registrations completed over the weekend will not be processed until Monday morning. Walk-up campers must register and pay for camps in full before attending summer camp. Drop Off/Pick Up In order to ensure the safety of all campers, parents should walk their child into the designated camp location and sign their child in with the instructor. Parents should not bring campers more than 10 minutes ahead of time or pick them more than 10 minutes after camp. A fee of $10 per $10 minutes will assessed. A child, who will not be picked up by his/her parent or guardian, must have written permission to ride with someone else. The permission must be presented to the camp director at the beginning of the camp day. Campers who are registered for both morning and afternoon camps will be taken and supervised at lunch care and play time for no charge. Lunch is not provided. Extended Care Options Early Care Fee- $50 After Care Fee- $55 Lunch Care provided for only students transitioning into afternoon camps free of charge. Campers may arrive as early as 7:30 a.m. Campers will be escorted to their first camp by a staff member. Instructors will walk the camper back to Extended Care for those registered in afternoon session. Office Hours Monday - Friday 8 a.m. - 3 p.m. in the Charlotte Christian Media Center.

What will you do this summer? Many of us will take much needed time to travel to visit with family and friends Some will take trips to the beach to unwind from the busy school year. While, others will choose to sleep in and take a slow approach to the summer morning. But what will you do when the travelling is done and the kids have asked “What are we going to do today”? That is when you will probably start surfing the Internet for summer camp opportunities for your child. As a working mother of two I try not to let the words take me by surprise. During the months of February and March we sit down as a family to take a look at the family’s summer calendar. I have found that making camp selections early allow for my children to choose camps that will broaden their horizons with the possibility of even seeing if a friend can attend camp with them. Attending summer can be a be a great opportunity for children to expand their horizons. As adults we tend to gravitate to things that make us feel the most comfortable. Many times our children do the same. During the summer it is a great opportunity for children to attend a variety of camps. This may help foster a new love or interest in cooking, science, math, art, or even a new sporting interest. I’ll never forget the time I met a young camper who attended one of the enrichment camps at Charlotte Christian School. He told me that he did not want to go to camp but rather stay at home to watch his favorite T.V. show. I encouraged him to find something that interested him at camp that day. I checked on him later that week to my surprise he told me that this was the best week ever. He told me that he had made some new friends and had created the coolest science project ever. Is not that what we all want for our children - the opportunity to try something new and to build relationships that may last a lifetime. When choosing your camps this summer, look for camps that will educate the whole child. As an educator and mom I know that this is a continual process. The camps that my children have loved the most have provided them with opportunities to excel outside of the classroom while presenting them with the challenge with trying something new. Whether you would like for your children to attend camp for one week or for several weeks, there are a variety of camps available that will peak the interest of children who love to learn, play and explore. Spend a week learning how to play music with guitar instructor Mr. Jason Sword. Campers will expand their knowledge of tuning, open major and minor chords, basic set up and maintenance of guitars, using online resources for instruction, rhythm and lead guitar playing, how to play in a group, and more. Students should bring their own guitar and tuner to camp each day.

This exciting course offers all the fundamentals of this fastpaced sport. Through a variety of exercises, drills and games, students will learn the footwork and blade-work techniques used in modern fencing. Fencing is a martial art that develops quickness, discipline, fair play, and confidence. The last day of camp will feature a practice tournament in which the students can test out their new swashbuckling skills. Students are asked to wear comfortable athletic clothing and proper athletic shoes.

Campers will learn how to prepare kid friendly recipes in the kitchen with Mrs. Christy Coles. Campers will prepare a variety of dinner recipes as well learn how to prepare fun party appetizers. In addition to cooking, campers will learn and practice basic etiquette skills. Campers will also learn how to clean up after themselves in the kitchen. Campers will learn the names and movements of chess pieces and how to win the game. Lessons will include basic tactical themes and patterns. Tournament rules and practices will be taught each day and campers will learn a brief history of the origin of chess. By reading and discussing examples of prose and verse, we will learn how to come up with our own creative writing ideas. These are all potential writing topics for the writing seminar taking place this summer. Students will delve into all types of writing including, creative, persuasive, narrative and expository. Exposure to time-tested examples of each will be incorporated into our camp. Along with learning the fundamentals of writing, students will be given the opportunity to refresh their grammar and punctuation skills as they write. Worship in a variety of dance disciplines (jazz, ballet, hip hop, modern, and tap) frees campers to experience, like King David, the joy of celebrating God with all their might! Rounding out the dance curriculum will be complimentary performing arts classes in drama, music, and sign language. Instruction with related props and crafts, along with participation in pertinent choreography sessions will culminate in a special program at the end of the week. In the context of a Christ-centered environment, campers will release God to inhabit the praises of His people and learn that He is truly the Lord of the arts! Course level is appropriately designed for both beginners and those with some prior dance experience. Dance attire is preferable, although modest, flexible clothing will be permitted. Those with dance shoes should bring them, and we will have some gently used shoes for others to try on and borrow. All hair should be secured tightly away from the face. Film production camp
This camp aims to teach campers the basics of film production with the ultimate goal of writing, shooting, and editing a short film with a group of their peers. During their time in the camp, campers will learn how to craft a script from scratch, frame shots with the camera, direct actors and actresses, and upload and edit footage using Final Cut Express. Amateur directors, actors, writers or simply movie lovers will enjoy diving into the basics of cinema this summer. Not only will this camp provide an introduction into the basics of filmmaking but it will also allow students to build teamwork skills as they work with their peers towards a common goal. Just Jumpin’ Jump Rope Camp is a Philadelphia based camp that specializes in all forms of jump rope. The coaches have been trained in single rope, double dutch, partner tricks, and long rope. We will play a variety of jump rope games throughout the week, but we are mainly trying to develop each child’s skill to have them get better at jumping rope. kids mystery camp
Mysteries for Kids offers age and content appropriate mysteries for campers ages 8-13 (reading and comprehension abilities needed). Campers become the characters and investigators (no memorization is required). We bring clues and character information to help the kids solve the mystery in this very interactive camp that inspires not only fun, but also team building and good verbal skills. Campers will work together to write their own Mystery Play, creating the characters, plot, etc., and present the final production to parents on Friday. DAY ONE: The Curious Case of The Lost Elephant takes campers to the circus where they will investigate the strange disappearance of a large elephant. Up to 25 can play (4 boys and 4 girls portray the characters and the other kids become the investigators to solve the mystery).

This is a unique opportunity to grow musically and form relationships while learning in a chamber music setting. Campers will have fun learning the basics of horsemanship. In addition to learning to ride, campers will learn parts of the horse, breeds, colors, and different gaits. Get out of the city and head to the North Carolina mountains to saddle up and experience life on a Dude Ranch. The skies are blue and the scenic views are breathtaking. You can see for miles as you hike, ride and explore more than 2,160 acres of woods, streams, and trails at Camp Harrison. Experiencing a dude ranch and farm is a dream come true. Everyone should get a chance to be a cowboy or cowgirl! Children can be themselves in the wide open spaces of Camp Harrison. There’s no television or video games to be found! Dude Ranch counselors will lead ranchers through busy days of horseback riding, working the farm, and experiencing life on a ranch.
Campers experience swimming in our new pool and a variety of lake activities including: kayaking, canoeing, water zip line, waterskiing, the “Blob” and the “Wet Willie.” They also choose from more than 21 land activities including: horseback riding, ropes course, sports and crafts. Our activities are designed to provide campers with an exciting and safe experience. American Camping Association (ACA) accredited and a 4:1 camper to counselor ratio promotes an environment that helps children grow in spirit, mind and body. Founded on the YMCA’s Christian values, Camp Harrison is positioned to give our campers an amazing summer experience whether it’s their first time away from home or they have been camping for years.
A typical day on the Dude Ranch will start with work! Ranchers will feed animals, collect eggs from the hen house, and complete morning chores. Daily devotion will be held over a big breakfast. The rest of the day could feature horseback riding, trail exploration, goat pen fun, games, scavenger hunts, swimming, backpacking, picnicking, hay rides, bonfires and more. Ranchers will also get a chance to participate in crafts, games and some of Camp Harrison’s many outdoor activities and water sports throughout the week. Life on a farm is always exciting! A variety of camp options are available in addition to the traditional camp offerings. Chaperones will include Moms on the Mountain, Charlotte Christian School parents. Transportation will be provided by Charlotte Christian for current and newly enrolled students for an additional fee of only $50 round trip. Bus riders will need to arrive at Charlotte Christian School at 1 p.m. Bus will depart at 1:30 p.m. and will arrive at Camp Harrison at 2:30 p.m. Camp Harrison staff will chaperone the bus ride.

Experience a week of Charlotte Christian baseball with Head Baseball Coach Greg Simmons and members of the Charlotte Christian baseball staff. Learn baseball fundamentals from present and former players who have played collegiately and professionally. Campers will receive excellent one-onone teaching. Skills will be videotaped, and campers will be able to review their plays daily. The goal of the camp is to develop a love for America’s favorite past time. This week long program will feature cheers, chants, and a dance taught by Charlotte Christian School middle school Cheerleading Coach Rachel Lawing and middle school cheerleaders. Each cheerleader will receive a cheer booklet and make a hair ribbon. Please provide a daily snack and water bottle. On the last camp day, parents are invited to attend a rousing pep rally. Cheerleaders should wear shorts, T-shirt, and tennis shoes. The goal of this program is to promote school spirit and to build selfconfidence. Frisbee enthusiasts unite! Camp time will be split between ultimate Frisbee, a competitive team sport that draws elements from both football and soccer, and Frisbee golf, a fun alternative to a day on the links. In ultimate Frisbee students must learn to work and play as a team. This is a very active sport that will help keep students in shape. Frisbee golf, in contrast, is much more relaxed and provides students with the opportunity to compete against themselves as they work to improve personal scores. During the week there will be a field trip to a nearby 12-hole Frisbee golf course at Squirrel Lake Park.
Camp will include conditioning, training, and technical instruction each day of camp. Live wrestling with highly skilled instructors will be a part of the daily opportunities for campers in order to put proper techniques into practice.
