In fact, you were a bit horrified at the thought of having a gazillion pictures taken with that arm flab flapping around. It’s your wedding after all. You want to be confident and breathtaking. You want to be the princess you have always imagined in your dreams. From this day forward The sooner you begin, the better you will look by your big day. To really achieve that â&#x20AC;&#x153;wowâ&#x20AC;? factor, start at least six to nine months prior to the wedding, and even sooner if you have an aggressive weight loss goal.

Bridal Trifecta Most wedding gowns reveal what I have nicknamed the “Bridal Trifecta,” i.e., arms, back, and shoulders. Some dresses are also form-fitting around the bum and hips.You might have chosen one that has a low cut back, or even shows your calves. You will want to make sure you emphasize these areas when choosing what exercises to focus upon the most.

Take the combo With all the wedding planning, events and activities going on during this special time, you’ll want to make the most of your exercise time. Structure your workouts to include mostly combination movements that use multiple muscle groups during each exercise. An example would be a squat with an arm curl and a press up. 49

Plan to cheat Cheating is part of a successful eating plan, but you have to be smart about it. If you eat a meal or a snack a total of five times a day, that means that in a sevenday period you are eating 35 times. Use the 10% cheat rule. In other words, one of every ten times you eat or snack, cheat a little. That will give you 3-4 cheats per week. Warning: A cheat shouldn’t include an entire 14” double-cheese pepperoni or an entire half gallon of ice cream. Have fun, but don’t go overboard.

Kill the cardio routine

Traditional steady-state cardio is so yesterday. Intervals are where itâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s at. Instead of spending an hour on the elliptical or the stair stepper, try running 30-90 second sprints either on the treadmill or outdoors. Rest for about two minutes and repeat. Do this 6-10 times and youâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;ll burn way more calories. 53

How can I have a cost-effective bar at my wedding reception?

Cocktails are a big part of the wedding reception, with some couples even choosing cocktails to match the wedding reception color scheme and theme. If you have done any budgeting for your wedding reception, you know that the bar can be an expensive item. Sandra, from Minnesota, wanted some advice on keeping bar costs in check:

â&#x20AC;˘ Analyze your guest list. If you have a lot of heavy drinkers, you may want to pay for your bar by the hour rather than by the drink. If you have as many people drinking soft drinks as you do liquor, wine and beer, you will probably do better paying by the drink.

â&#x20AC;˘ During the cocktail hour, when most people are doing their heaviest drinking, rather than solely relying on the bar, have servers pass non-alcoholic drinks, like lemonade in sugar-rimmed glasses or sparkling water with muddled fruit. â&#x20AC;˘ Close the bar during the introductions, first dances and dinner. That will limit the time you will be paying for drinks. 60

• Eliminate the champagne toasts. Your guests can toast you with whatever they are drinking. • Don’t serve alcohol. Work with your catering manager to create fun and colorful non-alcoholic cocktails (mock-tails!)

Couples will continue to buck “tradition-for-tradition’s-sake” and focus on personalizing every aspect of their wedding to reﬂect their interests and personalities.

Wedding gowns are all about texture this year. In past seasons, we have seen pops of color, lots of bling, and feminine detailing galore. In keeping with the subtly luxurious tone of all wedding trends this year, gowns are following suit with visually interesting and rich textures.

Vintage or heirloom hair combs are really hot. Reusing old items are great for the environment and they are a great way to incorporate something special for a loved one.

Intimate weddings are still going strong; although wedding budgets are beginning to recover in 2011, a return to the traditional lengthy guest list will not make a comeback.

10 ways to get your guests involved

The best wedding receptions occur when you can feel the love in the room. It’s magical! You step inside the ballroom and all the guests are engaged. Even if they aren’t on the dance ﬂoor, they are swaying in their seats. Every bride and groom wants a wedding reception just like that. Making sure your guests get involved with your wedding isn’t difﬁcult; it just takes a bit of planning. Follow a few of these suggestions and you will most certainly have a magical evening! 68

Start on time. Don’t keep your guests waiting. Sitting around at the ceremony or standing at the cocktail hour (especially in the heat or cold) for an extended amount of time will frustrate your guests. Frustrated guests typically want to eat, drink and leave.

Interact with your guests. Greet as many as you can and thank them for coming. This thoughtful gesture will make each of your guests feel welcome and loved.

Add personal touches. Old photographs, personalized place cards and memorable songs will engage your guests and draw them into the evening’s activities.

Provide conversation starters. If many of your guests don’t know each other, consider having place cards with trivia questions about you and your groom. Questions like “How did Susie and Bob meet?” or “Where did Bob propose?” will get people talking.

Be active in your reception. Guests take their cues from the newlyweds. If you are up dancing, your guests will be, too.

Play music that appeals to a variety of attendees. Start out with music that everyone recognizes and build up to the songs you and your friends like as the evening progresses.

Keep all entertainment inside the reception room. Anything that draws your guests away from the reception room will detract from the reception. Photo booths, photo presentations, caricature artists, etc. should all be stationed inside the reception room.

Make sure the music isn’t too loud. If the music drowns out conversation at the guests’ tables, they are more likely to walk out of the reception room to take a break from the sound. As the reception room empties, the party will slow down.

Keep the party moving. According to traditional etiquette, it is proper to leave only after the cake is cut. Holding guests “hostage” if they want to leave isn’t a good way to get them involved. Cutting the cake after dinner allows the guests who want to eat dessert and leave to feel comfortable doing so. Leave the partying to those who want to party.

Allow group dances. Most people who don’t feel comfortable dancing solo will join a big group on the dance ﬂoor. Some couples shy away from them because they think that group dances are “cheesy”. There are so many from which to choose that you and your band or DJ can ﬁnd one that will work well with your group. 69
