The pro tennis circuit plays Charlotte. UNC Charlotte 49er football has finally become a reality. Pro Wrestlers have called Charlotte home for decades. MMA has found a home in Charlotte with the rise of Fight Lab. And NASCAR™ was born and raised right here in Charlotte. And yet, despite the advancement of a select few Charlotteans in the boxing arena from Golden Gloves to Olympians to championship belt contenders—such as Kelvin Seabrooks and Calvin Brock—we have yet to see a world-class boxing bout in Charlotte. Until now. On March 7th, 2015, all eyes will be on Charlotte as Roy Jones, Jr. continues his march to regain a world title with a very special three-day event in Charlotte—the Night of Champions. The dominant fighter of his generation, Roy Jones, Jr. cruised weight classes to reel in titles from middleweight to heavyweight—a feat never before or since accomplished. Named boxer of the decade in the 1990s, Roy was dubbed “Pound for Pound, The Best Fighter in the World”. Now Jones, Jr., out of retirement and streaking towards a title fight, brings his brand of skill and ferocity to Charlotte, NC where he will fight not only for fans worldwide, but for the children of our region. (a 501 c 3 NC children’s charitable organization) Bears for Buddies program, where celebrities deliver teddy bears, smiles and love to children and their families battling terminal illness at Ronald McDonald House of Charlotte and Levine Children’s Hospital of Charlotte. On Friday, March 6h, Jones, Jr. will kick off the first annual Celebrity Charity Wishes Golf Tournament, featuring NFL and NBA players, along with other prominent Charlotteans playing to raise funds for mutliple local chidren’s charities. At 5pm, the Charlotte Regional Boxing Authority will weigh-in, for the first time ever a World Championship belt holder—Roy Jones, Jr. and his opponent at the NASCAR Hall of Fame, just prior to the big day. And on Saturday, March 7th as the Main Event at Carolina Brawl III—Night of Champions, Roy Jones, Jr. will square off in a 12 round bout making history here in the Queen City. “This is our event. THE UNDERCARD Make no mistake, Carolina Brawl is built to deliver and it will be more than the Main Event which will do just that. FIGHT YOUR WAY THROUGH CHARLOTTE? In the past, fighters had to fight their way through Atlantic City, Vegas and New York. That road remains, but we are intent on adding Charlotte to the list. Carolina Brawl III—Night of Champions will boast ten (10) undercard fights, with fighters from seven (7) states in addition to the 12 round sanctioned main event. THE MAIN EVENT Roy Jones, Jr. has never walked away from a fight. His career is remarkable in so many ways. What sets him apart from the majority of his elite company is the fact that Jones, Jr. moved up and down in weight class, destroying opponent after opponent. After time off, Roy has set off on a worldwide quest to make history again—collecting wins in Russia, Mexico and the US, and establishing himself as a undeniable contender for a title shot—which will come in short time—in the first half of 2015.
