The Promise. In 1972 Alan Willis, our founder, set a precedent for our business:
Honesty Hard Work. Integrity and Strong Family Values became the core of our beliefs. Today, with his legacy still vigorously upheld, Chatswood Stud has evolved into a world class horse breeding facility. We welcome you to join us in the passion of thoroughbreds.
We’ve learnt a lot in 39 years. But some things never change.
Welcome to Chatswood Stud. Welcome to 2011. Greg Willis: 2011 ‘Raised on the Hills to Race on the Flat’ is more than just a tagline. It’s our philosophy. It doesn’t just relate to the rearing of champion thoroughbreds. For us, it resonates that determination and hard work result in reward. For this year, it’s the acquisition of Reward For Effort. To obtain a Blue Diamond Winner straight from the track means a great deal to the Victorian Thoroughbred industry and, of course, to us. The future is looking extremely bright, we’re rejuvenated and excited at the prospect of standing some of Victoria’s most thrilling Sires lines.
Raised on the Hills to Race on the Flat.

Reward For Effort
2003 Bay 16.1HH
New for 2011: Reward For Effort only competed in black type events during his short racing career. He started in style, making it one from one with a victory in the 1000m Blue Diamond Preview. Less than a month later, Reward For Effort conquered Victoria’s richest two year old race, The Blue Diamond Stakes. This win was more impressive considering he defeated subsequent four-time Group 1 Winner Starspangledbanner and the previously unbeaten and later Group 1 Winner, Rostova. He then commenced his three year old career by leading all the way to take out the Listed Sir John Monash Stakes. Backing up from this win, Reward For Effort travelled to Sydney to win the Group 3 Concord Stakes at Rosehill in blistering fashion. The Blue Diamond Stakes has proven to be an amazing Stallion producer, with Champion Sire Redoute’s Choice and Black Caviar’s Sire, Bel Esprit, being among notable recipients. Reward For Effort stands at $11,000 inc. GST and a Free Return. Danehill

Amadeus Wolf’s Sire, Mozart, passed away after only one year at stud, however, from that crop, he produced an incredible 57 Winners and 8 Stakes Winners. His first crop progeny earnings of almost $7.6m exceeded Redoute’s Choice’s tally of $7.2m. Mozart was the fastest son of Danehill, who was the best son of Danzig at Stud. From Mozart’s first and only crop, Amadeus Wolf emerged as his very best. As a two year old, Amadeus Wolf won both the Group 1 Middle Park Stakes and the Group 2 Gimcrack Stakes. At three, he won the Group 3 Duke of York Stakes and was multiple Group 1 placed. Achieving a Timeform rating of 122, he became the third highest ranked racehorse in Europe. As a four year old, he won the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes, (also won by Invincible Spirit), defeating no less than four Group 1 Winners. Amadeus Wolf stands at $11,000 inc. GST and a Free Return. Primus
2002 Bay 16HH
The Stallion box at Chatswood Stud that once housed the Golden Slipper winner and Champion Sire, Flying Spur, is now home to his best value Group winning son, Primus. Primus is a descendent of famed Stud Book Matriarch Denise’s Joy, family of Joie Denise, Tuesday Joy, Sunday Joy and More Joyous. Primus’ victories included the Listed Ming Dynasty, the Listed Show County Quality and the Group 3 Tramway Quality. He ran an unlucky third in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas, the Group 1 Canterbury Guineas and the Group 1 Rosehill Guineas. “There’s justification to say that he should have easily won three Group 1’s… He was a very talented horse that never reached his full potential in terms of his racing record” [Trainer John O’Shea] In four years standing at stud he has covered 508 mares and we are now ready to see the rewards. Primus’ two year olds have just hit the track and his first winner, Apollo Creed, scored by a widening five lengths and then went on to take out a decisive win at Flemington. Primus stands at $5,500 inc. GST and a Free Return.
