POSTSEASON INFORMATION SoCon Tournament The 2011 Southern Conference semifinals and championship will be hosted by UNCG, Greensboro, N.C. NCAA Tournament The 2011 NCAA Division I Soccer Championship will be hosted by Kennesaw State at the KSU Soccer Stadium in Kennesaw, Georgia. The semifinals will be December 3 and the final on December 5. Early round play will begin November 12 on campus sites.

Mocs Success Academically, Athletically & Socially
Athletically Over the last five years, UTC has won 17 regular season and 19 tournament championships in the Southern Conference, far more than any other school during that time. After finishing in the top-100 in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup in 2009, the Mocs had their third-best showing at No. 136 in 2011. Sophomore Jenna Nurik won the SoCon Sportsmanship Award and was a second team all-conference selection.
Cross country’s Emmanuel Kirwa won his fourth conference race, third in the SoCon, and was the SoCon Runner of the Year for the third time.
The women’s golf team won its second-straight SoCon title and advanced to the NCAAs for the third year in a row.
The Mocs wrestlers have won seven-straight SoCon titles and are riding a 35-match winning streak in league action.
The softball team won its fifth-straight SoCon Title and advanced to the finals of the NCAA Regionals for the first time.
Junior Stephan Jaeger was the SoCon Men’s Golfer of the Year for the second year in a row, leading the Mocs back to the NCAAs.
Sophomore Paula Passmore was the 2010 SoCon Volleyball Libero of the Year after leading the league with 5.45 digs per set.
Bailey Dewart returned from numerous injuries to earn the SoCon Ann Lashly Inspiration Award.

Below are just a few of the Academic accolades UTC received last year: • The overall g.p.a. of the Mocs’ student-athletes has increased in each of the last six trems, culminating with a school-record 2.97 in the spring. • Over half of all UTC student-athletes earned at least a 3.0 grade-point-average in each of the last four semesters. • Each member of the SoCon Champion women’s golf team made the Dean’s List in both the fall and spring semesters. • Wrestling had a 3.14 g.p.a. for the year, ranking No. 7 in the nation.

The Chattanooga Mocs Athletics Department is heavily involved in community events throughout the year. UTC student-athletes are well represented in the annual Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure and the Mocs are always involved with local projects such as canned food drives, the Freshman Move-In and other activities throughout Chattanooga. The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) plans many of the Athletic Department’s community events. The Mocs also have a presence at Chattanooga’s Special Olympics events each year. The Mocs also host many events that engage the local community, such as the 2011 SoCon Basketball Championships.

In 1997, the Mocs football program said goodbye to historic Chamberlain Field and ushered in a new era for both the University and the City of Chattanooga. On Oct. 18, 1997, Chattanooga opened its new home, Finley Stadium Davenport Field, as an overflow crowd of 22,646 watched UTC defeat Tennessee State 28-7. The 20,668-seat facility is the best of its kind among Division I-FCS Subdivision stadiums and is the crown jewel for the city’s Southside revitalization project. After a five-year move, the women’s soccer program will once again call Finley Stadium home. The Lady Mocs, who began playing at Finley in 2000 and moved out in 2004, will return for the 2010 season hosting seven games. The $28.5 million project needed financial support to become a reality. Donations from the private sector ranged anywhere from a 10 dollar bill to $1 million. In fact, nearly 40 percent of the project came from private donations. The City of Chattanooga and Hamilton County contributed $13 million, the State of Tennessee gave $3.5 million and the University donated $2.9 million. Ground breaking on the site that was once the Rock Tenn plant was held March 7, 1996. Seven months later, the Stadium Corporation named the facility Finley Stadium Davenport Field. The late W. Max Finley, former Chairman of the Rock Tenn Corporation, dedicated his life to public service and was an active supporter of the University of Tennessee system. He received both the University of Chattanooga Distinguished Alumni Award and the Outstanding Service Award of the UTC Alumni Council. He was also inducted into the University’s Hall of Fame. The playing field is named in honor of the late Gordon Lee Davenport, the President and CEO of the Krystal Company from 1975-85. Davenport served as Chairman of the Stadium Corporation and Campaign and worked tirelessly in the planning and development of the facility. Davenport, a longtime friend of UTC athletics and Mocs football, received the UTC Alumni Council Outstanding Service Award and is a member of the University’s Hall of Fame. A new polyetheylene artificial turf surface, a state-of-the-art plastic grass, was installed in the spring of 2005 by TC Thiolon USA and Precision Sports Fields, Inc. The Stadium Corporation left nothing out of its masterpiece. The facility, designed by Derthick, Henley & Wilkerson and built by C&I Specialty, both of Chattanooga, contains 32 luxury sky boxes and 3,465 preferred seats with chairbacks. The $350,000 scoreboard includes a video board, and the Stadium Club can hold 250 for pregame or postgame functions. The press box can hold 60 media workers, has three radio booths and a television broadcast booth. Identical home and visitors locker rooms contain a separate athletic training area and coaches’ locker room, as well as an extensive player locker area. Besides serving as the home of Lady Mocs Soccer and Mocs Football, Finley Stadium Davenport Field hosted the NCAA FCS National Championship from 1997 to 2009. It is also host to the Chattanooga Futbol Club, international and high school soccer, high school football, national lacrosse tournaments, concerts and other community festivals.

• Four teams won SoCon titles in 2010-11, including men’s basketball (div.), wrestling, softball and women’s golf. Six teams - men’s and women’s cross country, wrestling, men’s and women’s golf and softball competed in NCAA postseason play. • Individually, the Mocs had one All-American, five SoCon Athletes of the Year, 11 SoCon Champions, one SoCon Tournament MVP, two SoCon Freshmen of the Year and three SoCon Coaches of the Year. Chattanooga also brought home 45 All-SoCon honors, while 17 studentathletes made various SoCon All-Freshmen teams.

The Mocs created a stir with a number of creative marketing ideas, including the White Out football game against Appalachian State, the Black Out men’s basketball game against Furman, Phillip D. The 2011 season marks head coach J.D. Kyzer’s 12th at the helm of the Lady Mocs soccer program. In his tenure at Chattanooga, the Lady Mocs marked their first advancement into the Southern Conference Tournament and posted three consecutive double-digit win seasons. Under his guidance, the Chattanooga program has produced 12 All-Conference performers, two all-tournament players, one all-freshman team member, 10 athletes of the week, two student-athletes of the week and a national player of the week. Last year, junior Donna-Kay Henry led the Mocs in scoring and was named to the league’s all-conference first team. The 2009 season saw the Mocs jumped out to a 5-0 start, the best in school history with four consecutive shutouts to start the season. Henry and Becca Smith led the Southern Conference in scoring and goals throughout the season. Henry was named all-conference for her efforts while Smith earned a spot on the all-freshman team. In 2004, UTC posted a school-record 12 wins. That season is a benchmark for the
Mocs. Besides wins, UTC set new standards with 50 goals, 52 assists, 152 points, a 0.86 goals-against average while allowing an alltime low 15 goals in 18 games. Chattanooga shutout seven opponents and only allowed five teams to score two or more goals. One of those shutouts was a 2-0 victory over Alabama, UTC’s first-ever win over an SEC opponent. Diana Jallo, a junior striker, scored both goals and for her effort, was named a National Player of the Week by Soccer America. Jallo led the league in goals, shots and scoring for the second straight season and earned her second All-Conference honor. Kyzer was chosen to be Chattanooga’s second head soccer coach in March 1999. The team responded with school records for overall wins and Southern Conference wins and set numerous individual standards in 2000. While the team’s 2001 record dipped, the Mocs set a new mark against the league in wins. A small, but talented squad battled several SEC schools and lost seven games by just one or two goals. In 2002, Kyzer led his team to its first double-digit win season with 10 victories. The squad set school records in wins, goals, points, shots, corner kicks, shutouts, fewest goals allowed and the lowest goals-against average. Three individuals set or tied four more school marks. Fueled by record-setting seasons, the Mocs continued to rewrite the books in 2003 under Kyzer’s guidance. For the first time since the league limited its postseason tournament to the top eight teams, the Mocs earned a spot in the event and captured a first-round win over East Tennessee State before falling to Furman in the quarterfinals. For his efforts, Kyzer was voted the 2003 Southern Conference Coach of the Year by his peers. He directed the team to a 10-63 overall record and a 6-2-3 SoCon record, the best in school history. Three of his players were named All-Conference by the league coaches and two were named to the All-Tournament Team.
Before arriving at Chattanooga, Kyzer spent five years as head coach of Division II Queens College in Charlotte, N.C., and was the program’s top assistant for six years before that. In his five years at the Charlotte institution, Kyzer compiled a 59-30-3 record while winning four Carolinas-Virginia Athletic Conference regular-season championships. In his time with the Charlotte school, the Royals lost just six times to CVAC opponents. Overall, Kyzer’s teams produced 22 allconference players, six all-region selections and one All-American. In 1998, the Royals had the nation’s most productive scorer in Renee Vinnedge who tallied an NCAArecord 41 goals in 16 games. Kyzer’s teams have been aggressive on the offensive end producing the conference’s leading scorer in all five seasons that he was head coach at Queens and three times since taking over at UTC. In 10 seasons of coaching, Kyzer has had a player nationally ranked in scoring 10 times. While keeping the pressure on offensively, Kyzer’s teams have also shown stellar defensive capabilities. In 1996, Queens College had a school-record 11 shutouts. In 1995 and 1997 the Royals posted nine shutouts. At Chattanooga the Mocs have posted 48 shutouts in 11 years. In 1999, Kyzer was also the head coach of the Charlotte Speed in a women’s pro league of the United Soccer League. Prior to taking the job at Queens, he was a member of the soccer staff at Belmont Abbey and was an assistant for current Duke Head Coach Robbie Church. A native of Columbia, S.C., Kyzer earned his bachelor’s degree in Education in 1985 from the University of South CarolinaSpartanburg. A member of the soccer team at USCS, he helped the squad to a 21-1-1 record his senior season. That team advanced to the national NAIA Tournament. Athletics Director When Rick Hart came to the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, he brought with him a vision and plan for the future of the Mocs. Over the last five years, Hart has changed the landscape of the UTC Athletics Department with his leadership, organizational skills and innovative ideas on how to fulfill the Mocs’ mission of preparing students for productive and meaningful lives. Since his hiring on May 23, 2006, Hart’s efforts have made a tremendous impact on the Mocs student-athletes’ quest for comprehensive excellence – academically, athletically and socially. Academically • Shown continuous improvement in the overall grade-pointaverages for student-athletes in each of the last six semesters - highlighted by a 2.97 g.p.a. in the spring of 2011, the highest semester mark on record. • Over half of the Mocs’ student-athletes made the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll each of the last four semesters. • Developed and implemented an ambitious APR improvement plan that has increased the APR scores of all Mocs athletics programs. • Expanded the Compliance and Academic Services departments to help student-athletes progress toward the ultimate goal of earning a college degree. Athletically • Captured 17 regular season and 19 tournament championships in the Southern Conference over the last five seasons, more than any other SoCon school. • In 2008-09, Chattanooga posted school records with five teams competing in the NCAA Championships and 10 squads represented in the postseason. • Set a school record in 2009 with a 99th place finish in the NACDA Learfield Director’s Cup that measures the overall success of all Division I athletic programs. Three of the Mocs’ top-5 all-time finishes in the NACDA Director’s Cup have come in Hart’s tenure. • Captured UTC’s first Germann Cup in 2007-08, signifying the best all-around women’s sports program in the Southern Conference.
Managing finite resources in collegiate athletics is widely known as a difficult task. Hart made fiscal stewardship a priority for the department since his arrival. With diligent leadership and a commitment from each and every member of the department, UTC Athletics has made significant strides towards reducing the financial burden on the institution and adherence to university allocated budgets. Currently, Hart serves as a member of the NCAA Division I Championship/Sports Management Cabinet and the FSC Athletics Directors Association Executive Committee. He is active in the community is a sought-after speaker among the area’s many civic organizations. In addition to his selection as the Grand Marshal of the 2007 Region 4 Special Olympics, Hart has been appointed to the Board of Directors with the March of Dimes – River Valley Division, the Greater Chattanooga Sports and Events Committee and the Finley Stadium Corporation. He is also a member of the Chattanooga Downtown Rotary and the United Way of Greater Chattanooga Leadership Club. Hart arrived on the UTC campus after serving seven years at the University of Oklahoma in various athletics administrative capacities. Hart’s career with the Sooners began in 1999 as the Director of Marketing and Licensing. He became Assistant Athletics Director for Marketing and Licensing in 2001, and developed and implemented marketing campaigns which generated annual ticket revenues in excess of $19.5 million. Hart was promoted to Associate Athletics Director for Program Advancement and Branding in 2003 and Senior Associate Athletics Director in 2006.
Hart has also worked in athletics for the University of North Carolina and East Carolina University and has served with the U.S. Olympic Committee. Dr. Roger Brown University Chancellor
Dr. Roger G. Brown, a proven academic leader and native Tennessean, is the fifteenth head of the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. His appointment as Chancellor was celebrated by the campus in February 2006. Under Brown’s leadership, the campus has experienced record enrollment growth at all levels, reaching the significant milestone of surpassing more than 10,000 students in fall 2009. Since taking the helm of the Chattanooga campus, he has promoted UTC’s mission as a metropolitan university with special emphasis in the fields of science, mathematics and technology. Brown has also pledged the campus’ commitment to teacher preparation, healthcare professions, business and
commerce and cultural appreciation. UTC recently completed a strategic planning initiative that focuses campus efforts on the power of partnerships, especially relationships within the learning laboratory of Chattanooga. In 2008, Chattanooga earned the Community Engagement designation by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching in recognition of its many successful partnerships in the community. Brown came to Chattanooga from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, where he served as Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs since 2000. Previously, he had served since 1991 in various academic and administrative capacities with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Brown left UNC Charlotte in 2000 as Senior Associate Provost and Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. A political scientist with particular academic emphasis in American government, Brown earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Political Science from the University of Tennessee and the Ph.D. in Political Science from The Johns Hopkins University. He began his teaching career at Iowa State University in 1983 before joining the UNC Charlotte faculty in 1985. In 2002, Brown was appointed to the inaugural delegation of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities Sino-American Leadership Development Training for Higher Education Leaders in China. He has traveled on assignment for the U.S. Department of State to Syria, Jordan, and Israel. He also helped establish international exchanges with universities in Germany, France, South Korea, and South Africa. In Chattanooga, Brown is a member of Rotary International and has also been named to the United Way of Greater Chattanooga Board of Directors, the RiverCity Company Board, and the Chattanooga Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. He is a commissioner of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has been appointed to the Southeast Tennessee PreK-16 Education Council. A strong supporter of athletics, Dr. Brown recently agreed to serve as the Chair of the Southern Conference Council of Presidents. This appointment runs through the 2011-12 academic year. Brown’s wife and partner, Dr. Carolyn Thompson, is also a committed community activist. In addition to her involvement and support of the university, she currently serves on the boards of the Community Foundation of Greater Chattanooga, Memorial Healthcare System, Jordan Thomas Foundation, Community Impact, and Women’s Fund of Greater Chattanooga. The couple has two children, Caroline and Austin. Roger and Carolyn also share custody of “Madeline Albright,” a rescued husky mix with diplomatic immunity.

2011 Chattanooga Mocs Soccer The 2011 women’s soccer season holds much excitement for the Mocs who begin their 16th season of competition. Seniors Danielle Barr and Donna-Kay Henry provide leadership for a squad featuring five juniors, five sophomores and seven freshmen. Henry, a three-time all-conference performer, was selected to the Southern Conference preseason all-conference squad and looks to

have her most promising season yet. Henry is climbing the Mocs career charts and ranks second behind Diana Jallo (2002-06) in the scoring and goals and is nearing the top 10 list for games played. Barr is a defensive specialist who stepped onto the turf as a walk-on in her sophomore season. After four years, she is nearing the top 10 list for games played. The juniors are led by forward Becca Smith who had a break-out freshman season before injuries hampered her efforts last year. She scored 11 goals in her rookie season and ranked third on the single season charts with 28 points scored. Joining her on the field are classmates Kelsey Swann, Tayler Shelby and 2010 assists leader Lauren Wilson. Jordan Middleton rejoins the squad this season as a junior after a return to the team over the summer. Sophomore Taylor Mangrum will
Chattanooga Outlook hold down duty as the team’s goal keeper. She ranked sixth on the single season chart with 118 saves and recorded three wins, one shutout with a pair of ties. She started 16 of UTC’s games last fall and will carry the load this season in goal. On the field will be sophomores Andria Aurand, Sam Eitner, both late season additions last year and Kerbi Towry. Transfer Kelly Crew from Tennessee Tech joins the sophomore class. She was selected the Appalachian Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year last season at Tennessee Tech and looks to make a mark for the Mocs this year. Freshman Crystal Mackezyk is one of seven freshmen taking the field for the Mocs in 2011. She dazzled high school fans with 156 goals throughout her career, but will look to help control the center at midfield. Rounding out the freshman class is Andi Argueta, Kaitlyn Bennett, Shelbey Farmer, Emma Mason, Marlee Maynard and Becky VanHorn. The 2011 slate features 10 home matches, three in-state foes on the non-conference slate and a tournament in North Carolina. The Mocs open the season at Tennessee Tech on August 19 before returning home to for a three-game stretch at Finley Stadium that begins Sunday, Aug. 21 against Austin Peay. The following Sunday, Chattanooga will host

2011 Chattanooga Mocs Soccer defending SoCon champion UNCG on their home field on September 23. The Spartans are led by first-year head coach Steve Nugent, a former Georgia assistant, who is taking over for long-time coach Eddie Radwanski who left to take over the reins at Clemson. Chattanooga will move down the road on September 25 to take on Elon who went 6-5 in league play last season. The Mocs will host The Citadel (Sept. 30), College of Charleston (Oct. 2) and Furman (Oct. 6) in their second three-game homestand of the year. The Bulldogs posted their first-ever win over Chattanooga last
Gardner-Webb at home and wrap up the three-game stand with a Friday match against Lipscomb on Sept. 2. From there, the Mocs will head to North Carolina for Gardner-Webb’s tournament to take on Stetson on September 9 and Jacksonville State two days later. UTC will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule with a home contest against Alabama A&M on Friday, September 16. Southern Conference action opens on the road for the Mocs who will face
season while the Mocs took the Cougars to double-overtime before falling 2-1 on the road. Twelve of Chattanooga’s 19 games last season were decided by one goal or fewer including a 1-0 loss to the Paladins. UTC will hit the road to take on Wofford on October 9 and Western Carolina on October 14. The Mocs went into double-overtime with each team last season ending in ties. UTC will close out the three-game road swing on October 16 at Appalachian State who went 2-5-4 in league play. Chattanooga closes out the home slate with Georgia Southern (Oct. 21) and Davidson (Oct. 23). The Mocs put together their strongest offensive output of the season against the Eagles with a 4-1 win. UTC will host Davidson for Senior Day on Sunday, Oct. 23. The regular season will close out on the road against Southern Rail Rivalry Series foe Samford in Birmingham on October 26. The Bulldogs closed out the 2010 season runner-up at 8-2-1 in the SoCon.

2011 Chattanooga Mocs Soccer The Southern Conference, which began its 91st season of intercollegiate competition in 2011, is a national leader in emphasizing the development of the student-athlete and in helping to build lifelong leaders and role models. The Southern Conference is the nation’s fifth-oldest NCAA Division I collegiate athletic association. Only the Big Ten (1896), the Missouri Valley (1907), the Pacific 10 (1915) and the Southwestern Athletic (1920) conferences are older in terms of origination. Academic excellence has been a major part of the Southern Conference’s tradition. Hundreds of Southern Conference student-athletes have been recognized on ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-America and all-district teams. A total of 19 Rhodes Scholarship winners have been selected from conference institutions. The Conference currently consists of 12 members in five states throughout the Southeast and sponsors 19 varsity sports and championships that produce participants for NCAA Division I Championships. The Southern Conference offices are located in the historic Beaumont Mill in Spartanburg, S.C. A textile mill that was in operation from 1880 until 1999, Beaumont Mill was renovated in 2004 and today offers the league first class meeting areas and offices as well as a spacious library for storage of the conference’s historical documents.

Membership History On Feb. 25, 1921, representatives from 14 of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s (SIAA) 30 members met at Atlanta’s Piedmont Hotel to establish the Southern Intercollegiate Conference. On hand at the inaugural meeting were officials from Alabama, Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn), Clemson, Georgia, Georgia School of Technology (Georgia Tech), Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi A&M (Mississippi State), North Carolina, North Carolina State, Tennessee, Virginia, Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) and Washington & Lee. Dr. S.V. Sanford of Georgia was chosen as acting chairman and N.W. Dougherty of Tennessee was named secretary. The decision to form a new athletic conference was motivated by the desire to have a workable number of conference games for each league member. Play began in the fall of 1921 and a year later, six more schools joined the fledgling league including Tulane (which had attended the inaugural meeting but had elected not to join), Florida, LSU, Mississippi, South Carolina and Vanderbilt. VMI joined in 1925 and Duke
The Southern Conference was added in 1929. By the 1930s, membership in the Southern Conference had reached 23 schools. C.P. “Sally” Miles of Virginia Tech, president of the Southern Conference, called the annual league meeting to order on Dec. 9, 1932 at the Farragut Hotel in Knoxville, Tenn. Georgia’s Dr. Sanford announced that 13 institutions west and south of the Appalachian Mountains were reorganizing as the Southeastern Conference. Members of the new league included Alabama, Alabama Polytechnic Institute, Florida, Georgia, Georgia School of Technology, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Mississippi A&M, University of the South, Tennessee, Tulane and Vanderbilt. The Southern Conference continued with membership of 10 institutions including Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Virginia, VMI, Virginia Tech and Washington & Lee. The second major shift occurred some 20 years later. By 1952, the Southern Conference included 17 colleges and universities. Another split occurred when seven schools including Clemson, Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, North Carolina State, South Carolina and Wake Forest departed to form the Atlantic Coast Conference which began play in 1953. The revamped Southern Conference included members The Citadel, Davidson, Furman, George Washington, Richmond, VMI, Virginia Tech, Washington & Lee, West Virginia and William & Mary. Today, the league continues to thrive with a membership that includes 12 institutions and a footprint that spans five states: Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Alabama and Georgia. Current league members are Appalachian State, Chattanooga, College of Charleston, The Citadel, Davidson, Elon, Furman, Georgia Southern, UNC Greensboro, Samford, Western Carolina and Wofford. Coaches and Administrators The Southern Conference has also been a breeding ground for some of college athletics’ most recognized coaches and administrators. Legendary basketball coaches Adolph Rupp of Kentucky and Everett Case of North Carolina State
both worked the sidelines in the Southern Conference. Rupp guided the Wildcats to a 30-5 mark during the 1931 and 1932 seasons. Yet, for all his coaching accomplishments, Rupp never led Kentucky to a Southern Conference tournament championship. Case mentored the Wolfpack to six consecutive Southern Conference Tournament championships from 1947 through 1952. Lefty Driesell coached Davidson to three Southern Conference Tournament championships in 1966, 1968 and 1969.
