CHAUD DEVANT has a unique history. It all began in 1993 when Bianca van der Lee was working at a restaurant in Amsterdam and the chef tore his pants. She picked them up and wondered whether there weren’t more attractive models available in the market. This gave her the idea to develop contemporary, stylish and professional chefswear. The name of the company originates from a common exclamation in French kitchens: ‘CHAUD DEVANT’, which means ‘Watch out, hot plates coming through!’.
25 years later, CHAUD DEVANT has grown to be a leading trendy label for today’s chefs, kitchen brigades and service staff. Our designs are developed here in Amsterdam and then deliberately produced in Europe. They are then sold to dealers and wholesalers in more than 20 countries. We all try to make conscious choices. More and more chefs are developing organic or even vegan recipes and making their menus more sustainable. We too recognise the impact that clothing has on the environment and want to reduce our carbon footprint. That is why we started the journey to make our collection more sustainable, step by step. We consciously choose to use high-quality, recycled and ecological materials and to produce them in Europe. To make these more sustainable items a lot easier to find, we developed the FEEL GOOD label.
An item from our collection receives the FEEL GOOD label if at least 30% of the material is sustainable in our eyes (recycled polyester and/or recycled cotton and/ or organic cotton and/or Tencel).

Chaud Devant and MICHELIN® Technical Soles have created trendy footwear based on an Italian design, developed especially for chefs. The water-repellent leather, non-slip sole and aluminium protective toecap make these shoes perfect for in the kitchen. The insole is made with Cambrelle® and 3 mm Poron® performance cushioning. The shoe is Class S2, SRC tested and approved in accordance with the EN ISO 20345:2011 safety standard. These shoes should be used on smooth kitchen floors only.

To make these more sustainable items a lot easier to find, we developed the FEEL GOOD label. An item from our collection receives the FEEL GOOD label if at least 30% of the material is sustainable in our eyes (recycled polyester and/or recycled cotton and/or organic cotton and/orTencel).

SecondLife® is a fabric made from recycled plastic bottles. It can be industrially cleaned, making it highly suitable for chefwear. The combination with Tencel® results in a jersey fabric that is flexible, lightweight and provides exceptional freedom of movement. This fabric can be found in the FX collection.
For a proper treatment of your chef’s outfit, please refer to the care label with washing instructions at the inside of the garment. We recommend that you wash the garment before first use: at 30 degrees on a short program with a small amount of washing detergent. Choose an antiwrinkle program if possible. Wash colored garments separately. To preserve the press buttons on the chef jackets, they should not be pressed in the laundry.
The fabrics used for our chefwear are very carefully selected. That is why Tencel® is found in a number of our products. This fabric keeps you cool and is highly absorbent. It even dries faster than cotton. It goes without saying that we want only the very best materials for our products!
Many of our products carry the Bluesign quality mark. An international label for textiles that indicates that no harmful or carcinogenic substances were used in the production process and that there are binding criteria for energy, water consumption and air quality. In addition, it is mandatory to draw up a sustainability plan. There are also strict social obligations to protect workers and ensure their health and safety is assured.
With Waste2Wear®, Chaud Devant® does its part to help make the world a little greener. Products with the Waste2Wear label are made of recycled plastic bottles. These bottles are processed into polyester, which is then used to create our RPB collection.
An environmental label that has been assigned to certain products within a wide range of product groups, including textiles. There must be a reduced impact on the environment. Depending on the product group, the following aspects are considered: energy consumption, emissions to air and water, prohibition of the use of harmful substances, packaging waste, organic agriculture and recycled raw materials.
This symbol gives information about the possibility and the kind of a domestic washing process by machine or by hand. The ciphers in the washing tub specify the maximum temperature in C, which must not be exceeded.
The triangle is an indication for a bleaching process. A white triangle means any bleaching agent allowed.
This symbol specifies information on the possibility of domestic drying. The circle inside the square specifies the drying in a domestic tumble dryer. The dots within the circle in the square specify the temperature setting during drying. 1 dot: low temperature of 60 °C, 2 dots: normal temperature exhaust temperature max. 80 °C
This symbol specifies ironing or pressing. The dots within it give the maximum ironing or pressing temperatures. 1 dot: Maximum temperature of 110 °C. Steam iron may cause irreversible damage. 2 dots: Maximum temperature of 150 °C. 3 dots: Maximum temperature of 200 °C.
Many of our fabrics are certified with the OEKO-TEX® STeP or OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 quality label. This means that they are produced in a sustainable manner with few or no chemicals. In other words, honest clothing for today’s ecoconscious chefs!
Chaud Devant® works with European studios that are Amfori BSCI Members. Amfori BSCI is a well-known quality label that guarantees good, safe working conditions and decent wages. We also visit all studios personally on a regular basis.
