The organization was Jerri Rosen’s brainchild over 25 years ago. At that time, Jerri served as an executive at a marketing and communications company and wondered what she and her friends could do to help abused women who were trying to become self-sufficient and get back into the workforce. She and five of her friends began collecting clothes, accessories, and costume jewelry and began donating them to women’s shelters. She told the women’s shelters that she and her friends wanted to hold days of “Self-esteem” where abuse victims could choose clothing, accessories, and learn hair styling, makeup, and job interview tips. The first day of self-esteem in 1990 was a success and over 67 women attended.

Clients of the center not only have access to wardrobe services but grooming services as well. Hair stylists regularly donate their time at the Working Wardrobes onsite salon. The organization hosts special beauty events offering haircuts and styling to Working Wardrobes patrons. Each client takes home a gift bag filled with goodies from a tooth brush to cosmetics and hair care products. Making people look professional and feel confident in their appearance is a priority.

Stress releases powerful neurochemicals and hormones that prepare us for action (to fight or flee). If we don’t take action, the stress response can lead to health problems as these chemicals impact our immune system, our blood pressure, moods and physical well being. You can’t avoid all stress, but you can counteract its negative effects by learning how to evoke the relaxation response, a state of deep rest that is the polar opposite of the stress response. This practice brings your system back into balance: by deepening your breathing you reduce stress hormones, slow down your heart rate and blood pressure, and relax your muscles. In addition to its calming physical effects, research shows that the relaxation response also increases energy and focus, combats illness, relieves aches and pains, heightens problem-solving abilities, and boosts motivation and productivity. All you have to do to create the relaxation response in your body is practice deep breathing, a simple, yet powerful, relaxation technique. It’s easy to learn, can be practiced

almost anywhere, and provides a quick way to get your stress levels in check. Deep breathing is the cornerstone of many other relaxation practices, too, and can be combined with other relaxing elements such as aromatherapy and music and meditation. Ultimate Beauty Companies Raises Funds for Cancer at Komen Race for the Cure

lear blue skies, cool brisk morning air and lots of sunshine – September 27, 2009, an estimated 24,000 people, many smiling, some running, most seemingly enthusiastic about being a part of such a special day at Fashion Island in Newport Beach, Calif. – among them was Ultimate Beauty Companies’ Founder and CEO Morad Zahabian, UBC, Sr. Vice President Cynthia Heisser and a team of 85 employees and their families participated in the Komen Orange County Race for the Cure (5K). “This is one of my favorite events that I attend each year,” Heisser said.

“Being able to share this with my children, my company and my friends make this race a symbolic testament to the dedication of so many people that have helped make Susan G. Komen one of the largest breast cancer charity organizations in the world.” Participating in the race is part of UBC’s ongoing commitment to raising funds and awareness for breast cancer charities, an important cause that has personally affected the family of Zahabian. “I’m so proud of all of my employees who participated in such a great cause. The money we raised will help to develop new cancer treatments, raise awareness
