ABOUT UNIVERSITY One of the best NID in India is located in Bengaluru. It was established in 2006, and the Parliament declared NID Bangalore as the Institute of National Importance in 2014. The institute offers courses in various levels, including Bachelors, Masters, and Doctoral in Design. Additionally, NID Bangalore also offers two research-intensive programs which includes Design for Retail Experience and Design for Digital Experience. However, NID Bangalore now offers five master's programs on its campus. There are certain courses of NID that are available on specific campuses only. As for some facilities available, the NID Gandhinagar hostel facility is available only on the said campus, and there is no hostel in NID Bangalore. NID Bangalore is affiliated with NARIC, UK, and provides an excellent learning environment to the students along with living projects through various collaborations with other companies and institutions. Moreover, with the help of such practical training, NID has been able to provide a better understanding of the skills that the students need to have as professionals in the industry.

HISTORY The four National Institute of Design in India was a part of the National Design Policy. The National Institute of Design Act, 2014 accorded the institutes as the Institutes of National Importance. The Government of India, Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion, Ministry of Information Technology, and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry jointly established NID Bangalore in 2006. Earlier, NID Bangalore offered two masters programs which included Design for Retail Experience and Design for Digital Experience. However, NID Bangalore has now been offering five master's programs in total.

INFRASTRUCTURE Library: NID Bangalore has an extensive Knowledge Management Centre which includes a variety of different books, journals and audio-visual materials as well. Moreover, this KMC also has research projects and student diploma projects in large collections. Additionally, it provides access to various databases, including EBSCO, Jstor, Proquest, Grove Art Online, Art and Architecture, and Vogue Archive. Students can access the e-books from Oxford, Cambridge University Press, and many more.
Other facilities: Other facilities available in the NID Bangalore campus are research and development units along with Universal Design Lab. Additionally, there is a computer lab and a separate animation lab. The campus has Wi-fi along with a cafeteria. There are AC classrooms on the campus for the convenience of the students. Additionally, the lecture rooms comprise of all the required items for proper teaching of both theory and practical papers. Moreover, there are a variety of design rooms for the students, which are centers mainly for innovation and design purposes. The overall development of the students is enhanced with the help of design equipment for every course and department.
COURSES NID Bangalore courses are five in number. The five masters of design programs have various specializations, which include Universal Design, Information Design, Digital Design, Design for Retail Experience, and Interaction Design. For all these courses, the eligibility criteria are the same. A bachelor's degree is required or a full-time diploma course. Moreover, there is a specific age limit for these courses as well. For the general category and foreign nationals, the age limit is 30 years. Whereas for the reserved category, ie ST/SC/OBC, it is 33 years. Additionally, for the PwD category, it is 35 years. This is mainly for the master's programs. Everyone applying for NID has to get through the written examination first and then appear for the studio test. For the course of Bachelor of Design, the specializations include Exhibition Design, Graphic Design, Furniture, and Interior Design, Ceramic and Glass Design, Animation Film, and Product Design. The bachelor's course is for a duration of four years. As for the master's degrees, the specializations include Digital Game design, Design for Retail Experience, Interaction Design, Information Design, and Universal Design. These courses are for two and a half years. The doctoral design courses are also for a duration of two and a half years.
