Intro...

Who doesn't love ice cream? We sure do! This is a super cute and super simple party to throw together to celebrate anyone special. Lots of smiles are guaranteed during the ribbon wand parade, ice cream sundae making contest (be sure to provide lots of sprinkles and cherries) and yummy lemonade with retro striped straws.

{Gourmet, 2007}

2 cups Basil Lemon Syrup (see below) 2 cups cold water 2 cups ice cubes 1 Âź cups fresh lemon juice Stir together all ingredients in a pitcher; then pour into glasses and pop in a cute striped straw. Yield: about 6 cups Basil Lemon Syrup 2 cups water 1 cup granulated sugar 4 (4- by 1-inch) strips lemon zest 2 cups packed fresh basil sprigs In a medium saucepan, combine the water, sugar, and zest. Bring to a boil over mediumhigh heat, stirring until the sugar is dissolved. Remove from the heat, add the basil, stir to combine, and let stand at room temperature, covered, for 1 hour. Transfer the mixture to a medium bowl and chill until cold, about 1 hour. Strain the syrup through a sieve into an airtight container, pressing hard on and then discarding the solids.

Note: The syrup will keep, covered and chilled, for up to five days. The recipe can also be easily doubled. Yield: about 2 ½ cups

helpful hints You can find great vintage glass ice cream cups at your local thrift store. Cut triangles of bright yellow and white fabrics and sew (or hot glue) onto a wide ribbon. Hang on two branches of trees during your party for a great decorative bunting. Often times, furniture or fabric stores will give away their old fabric sample books. Fill small glass jars found at your local craft store with yellow and white bubblegum and attach our "thank you for coming" stickers on the front for a unique and very cute favor to send home. Pin the Tail on the Donkey is a great game to go with this party, there is a fun retro style version out by Eeboo Corporation at various toy stores. Bring a wooden children's chair and take a photo of each child to include with the thank you note, the parents will love it! And most of all, have lots of sweet fun!
