In every issue...

…of Artists & Illustrators, we strive to give you as much variety as possible. And this month is no exception, whether it’s the stimulating practical content you’re after or the motivating inspirational interviews and features with professional artists. Take this month’s cover star and How I Paint It interviewee, Yelena Lamm. An artist since childhood, she didn’t find her true creative calling until she started painting friends’ pets in lockdown – and the results are magical. The Big Interview artist is inspired by the Golden Age of Hollywood films – and stages each painting with real-life models and props before committing paint to paper.

If you’re looking to brush up your art skills, we’ve alsogot a handful of user-friendly step-by-step guides to help youonyour way. Terence Clarke shows you how he painted a recent makesyou-wish-you’re-on-holiday beach scene whilst Elaine Lisle demonstrates how she approached a recent commissionof a local harbour. Both illustrate how you can take your art wherever you go – and make memories with your creative creations.

Art tutor and teacher Al Gury talks about the merits of glazing with his portrait whilst Felicity House paints a scene of her kitchen as viewed from the room next door – proof that you don’t necessarily need to step out of your home for creative inspiration. Motivated by the recent exhibition of Cézanne, Raw Umber tutor Lydia Cecil talks about how she tackled a still life of grapes and lemons in one sitting whilst Rosalind Ormiston – the author of a book on Pablo Picasso – writes about a new exhibition on the Spanish Master 50 years since his passing.

All in all, there are lots of tips and tricks to keep you inspired and creating. Happy painting and drawing!
