THIS MONTH WE VISIT…

Before seeing it for myself, I’ll admit I was a little sceptical about Chewton Glen. It had been sold to me by friends and social media as the hotel that ‘has it all’ – outdoor hot tubs, amazing food, lush green countryside, stylish seaside towns, a fantastic beach nearby... the list went on and on. Surely the world was overstating it just a little?

Reader, how thrilled I was to be proved wrong. Located on the border of the New Forest, encased by 130 acres of verdant scenery, this fivestar hideaway genuinely lives up to its dazzling reputation, and as a popular choice for families, couples, and those – like me – there to sample the babymoon o‡ering – it continues to deliver again and again.

With the weather forecast predicting glorious sunshine, our weekend was o‡ to a strong start as we checked into one of the croquet lawn rooms; kitted out with plush sofas, a dressing area, marble bathroom and – much to my partner’s delight – spectacular views of the golf course. A light lunch in the café hit the spot after a morning spent in spa and hydrotherapy pool, where there’s also a menu of pregnancy treatments for mums-to-be, from facials to massages. Venturing out of the main house, we were also lucky enough to catch a short tour of the magnificent treehouse suites, situated high in the forest canopy and just a short walk through the gardens.

Our evening meal in The Dining Room was equally sublime – the standout dish being the cheese sou”é starter, which has been on the menu for around 30 years because guests love it that much. If you’re craving something sweet to finish, try the divine homemade ice cream, too. Worn out from a day of doing not very much at all, we kicked back in our king-sized bed, savouring the smug feeling of total bliss that Chewton Glen had gifted us. Yes, we thought; we could definitely get used to this. NATALIE KEELER ventures to Hampshire for a taste of rural luxury Chewton Glen
