he ittleover ased school is reno ned for its magnificent period manor setting, dedicated buddy system and enriching Forest School

At Derby Grammar School, every primary pupil has a buddy, and older pupils are encouraged to help younger pupils learn to read.

Built in 1780 as a private residence, Rykneld Hall was used as a hospital during the second half of the 20th century, before eventually becoming home to Derby Grammar School in 1995. The new, state-of-the-art Infant School building opened in September 2020, allowing teaching sta to cater for boys aged four to 10 years.

Today, primary pupils use the quadrangle in front of the William’s Building – which used to be a stable block and accommodation for the non-house sta – as their break and lunchtime playground.
