LUKE HERSHESON ON STYLING YOUR BOB
“The best way to style a bob at home is either air dried or a loose tong for some movement. They work well with texture and movement. Make sure you use a few pumps of Almost Everything Cream on wet hair fi rst to weigh it down. Leave to dry on its own and add a few random large-barrel tonged pieces through. Tuck behind your ears to help create a bend around your face while it’s drying. The ZHOOSH FOAM is a great volume mousse to use with this style. It’s a transformati ve dry foam soluti on that immediately brings fl at hair to life, delivering eff ortless oomph and lift .” hershesons.com
LASER FOCUS: TIPS FROM DR MARWA ALI
Combinati on treatments which target skin conditi ons with a blend of laser technologies are the perfect soluti on for those in need of skin rejuvenati on, without needles. I favour this treatment path because it can be completely personalised to each client. Photofracti onal technology is a combinati on of two of the best laser light technologies in the industry, IPL and ResurFX. In younger skin the combi-technology can target acne scarring, and for mature skin, it also targets texture, wrinkling and pigmentati on. At the Harrods Wellness Clinic, I use the Lumenis Stellar treatment to deliver a complete skin rejuvenati on soluti on. The Lumenis Stellar M22TM is known for its effi cacy in treati ng diff erent types of pigmentati on, such as sunspots and melasma. The experts from OneWelbeck debunk the myths and underline the importance of catching and treating bowel cancer early
This Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, we talk to gastroenterology consultant, Lisa Das, and gastrointestinal surgeon, Sarah Mills, at private specialist facility, OneWelbeck, to quash the myths surrounding bowel cancer, and find out why screening is so crucial to catch, monitor and treat cancer in those early stages.
Why is screening for bowel cancer important?
Lisa: Bowel cancer is the second biggest cancer killer in the UK, affecting around 43,000 people per year. Luckily, bowel cancer is treatable and curable if diagnosed early. Thus the need for timely screening meaning investigating those of a certain age without any symptoms. Many colorectal cancers are preventable through regular screening. Screening procedures such as colonoscopies can find and remove precancerous polyps – abnormal growths in the colon or rectum which may turn into cancer. Up to 40 per cent of people eligible for screening may have polyps without knowing it. Screening can and does save lives.
Sarah: The Covid pandemic has caused a problem in terms of cancer screening. Overall, by the end of the pandemic, there were 4,000 fewer cancers diagnosed nationally than in the year before and this has led to a scenario of more people presenting with an advanced cancer. Cancers that present at a more advanced stage may not be curable, but if bowel cancers are caught early, over 50 per cent of them are completely curable.
Is there an age threshold for screening?
Sarah: A campaign has been launched called ‘Never Too Young’ to get across to the public the message that symptoms for bowel cancer should be investigated at any age, with some people contracting bowel cancer in their 20s. There has been a marked increase in the number of people under 50 developing bowel cancer in the last 15 years, so we have lowered the threshold for investigating any of the symptoms associated with bowel cancer to a much younger age.
Lisa: NHS England will be reducing the age of bowel screening to 50 and above, but only over the next four years. If you’re concerned regarding your family history, or any symptoms, you can discuss this with your GP and specifically request a referral. If there are worrying concerns you can also contact OneWelbeck for a consultation.

What is your advice to anyone resisting or putting off having a screening?
Lisa: There are many commonly held concerns regarding the colonoscopy, which involves a camera examination inside the gastrointestinal tract. At OneWelbeck, we are proud to offer propofol sedation, which is studied, well tolerated and safe. Some patients fear embarrassment, which is understandable, but rest assured that we are an experienced unit of health care staff, nurses and consultants. We are performing these procedures every day. We ensure that we will protect your modesty. Find out more by scanning the QR code, calling 020 3653 2007 or emailing bookings. digestivehealth@ onewelbeck.com.
