Kingfishers Update Bring your parents to forest school It was wonderful to see our Kingfishers come back to school last week and also to welcome our new children. We loved our bouncy dinosaur and our BBQ on the first day of school – can we do this every day please?

Mr Toad comes to visit The children in Reception were very excited to meet a toad that the Head Gardener had found near the lake. Some of them were even brave enough to stoke it, although most decided just looking was enough.

Exploring school and using the iPads The Reception children had a wonderful time exploring their school environment. They used the iPads to take pictures of their favourite parts of the school. Watch out for the Reception paparazzi, who knows when you may be snapped?!

Kingfishers Update Year 1 Bear Hunt Year 1 loved having their big friends from Year 8 join us in the classroom. There was some super collaborative play going on! Year 1 are thoroughly enjoying the story this week, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt”. We are producing some lovely artwork and learning to use time connectives to write and illustrate a story journey.

Year 2 Fun Year 2 took some inspiration from Monet’s famous paintings and decided to do some sketching of our very own lake. Such concentration on these artist’s faces! Year 2 also went to the postbox to post postcards this week. Look out for them soon Year 2 families!

Lower School News

Keep up to date Make sure you’re following Lower School on twitter (@CheltPrepLower) to keep up to date with all of the latest activities we’re getting up to!

Year 3 Enrichment Year 3 have really been enjoying cooking in their Enrichment lessons. In the first week we made pitta bread pizzas, by adding our own homemade tomato pizza sauce and selecting the toppings of our choice. This week the sweet smell of jam tarts filled Lower School. We began by using our fingers to pinch butter and flour together into breadcrumbs. Then we watched the magic of the food processor turn this into pastry. After rolling out the pastry and cutting it into circles, we filled the pastry with different flavours of jam. Of course with the left-over pastry we made our own creations of jam pastry pizzas and jam pastry doughnuts. Delicious! Next week on the menu… a hearty, warming vegetable soup.

Boarding House Update On Sunday the Boarders set off on their first big Sunday trip of the year to Legoland. This was a request that has come up previously in our Boarders’ Council meetings, so we were pleased to be able to fulfil this dream. It was a beautiful day for a trip out and the combination of Lego, rides and spending some pocket money seemed to go down well. Thank you to Mr Yiend and Mrs Jones and the Gaps for joining in and leading with such enthusiasm. We hope everyone has a good rest over Exeat and comes back excited for our Boarders’ weekend away in Dorset the following week.

2019 - Our Year of Reading Congratulations to Sam A who has been named this week’s reader of the week, great work Sam keep it up!

Roald Dahl Day Roald Dahl Day 2019 was celebrated with an energetic performance from our English Department. A huge thank you to our three glamourous witches, Mrs Smith, Mrs Nicholson and of course our Grand High Witch, Ms Allen who performed a compelling rendition of a scene from Roald Dahl’s book, The Witches. It was definitely enjoyed by our Lower School pupils!

Boys’ Team of the Week U13B The U13B team have had a storming start to the term. A 30-5 win over Wycliffe and 30-0 win over Pinewood in the first week of fixtures, were backed up with a superb 30-5 win over St Hugh’s on Wednesday. This means they have scored 90 points and only conceded two tries in three matches. A superb start to the year from the boys.

Grils’ Team of the Week - U9 V Pinewood What an outstanding start to the season against Pinewood for the U9 teams. With a 5-1 victory for the Lions and an amazing 9-0 win for the Tigers. The girls are working hard in their training sessions to practise their push passes for greater distance. They are also making sure that they have low body positions when tackling and receiving the ball. This has really helped to develop their game. This shows great promise for the season ahead. Well done girls.

And finally... Dear Parents The first Exeat of the year is always a good time to stop and draw breath. The start of the academic year is always very full on with children and parents getting used to new routines, timetables and teachers. The positivity around the school has been fantastic to be a part of over the last few weeks and a huge amount has already gone on and been achieved. The result of all of this, of course, is some very tired children - so a nice relaxing weekend, possibly with the odd Rugby World Cup game thrown in(!), will be good for all. Next week we will be asking the children to bring in their contributions towards our Harvest Festival and we also have hot air balloon rides, amongst a myriad of other adventures, to look forward to at our ‘Around The Prep in 80 Days’ Open Morning next Saturday.
