SKANSKA POLAND HQ LOBBY

Creating memorable moments in a welcoming area & meeting friends in a “swedish summer house” Professional Work: Henning Larsen Duration: September - December 2017 Keywords: Summer House, Scandinavian, Humanistic, Warmth, Nature, Welcoming, Community

SKANSKA is one of the largest multinational construction and development companies in the world. While we all enjoy the great convenience brought by SKANSKA’s products (bridges, highways, etc), how many of us really understand its value and Scandinavian heritage? After redeveloping SKANSKA’s identity, we decide to introduce its Swedish roots and humanistic approach to the world through the design of their new HQ lobby at Warsaw. At SKANSKA lobby, you will find a friendly and welcoming space, where scandinavian craftsmanship will be combined with casual elegance and materials that remind you of its Scandinavian heritage. The lobby will be a comfortable, open space, where guests want to stay and to linger, to work and to read, to talk and to meet.

AUTODESK MUNICH HQ

Embracing a connective and progressive workplace culture Professional Work: Henning Larsen Duration: February - April 2018 Keywords: Future, Innovation, Digitalization, Mesh Surfacing, Connectivity, No Boundary

When American multinational software corporation Autodesk planned its Munich office HQ, not only was it looking for a historical lively site in the center of Europe, but a place to implement its progressive connectivity concept as part of a global vision for the future workplace. Aligning with Autodesk’s objectives and digitalization approach, Henning Larsen incorporated Bavarian characteristics to reflect identity, emphasizing the brand’s aspiration to progress, to connect, and to dissolve the boundary between tradition and future.

UC BERKELEY CLASSROOM REFURNISH Introducing flexible learning space

Professional Work: UC Berkeley, Herman Miller Duration: September - November 2016 Keywords: Flexible System. Moving Structure, Learning Space, Creativity, Multi-Purpose

The goal of our proposal is to balance flexibility and rigidity. The rooms are located inside College of Environmental Design, UC Berkeley. They should serve three different learning activities - Lecture, Seminar, Review. Different learning behavior requires different spatial configuration. We use architectural elements in two rooms to define the different programs.

CONVERGENCE

San Francisco Mission Bay Community Center Instructor: Lisa Iwamoto Individual Project, Integrated Studio University of California, Berkeley M.Arch Fall 2018

A community center should take its cue from existing intimate scale neighbourhood typologies and address prevalent site condition in making the center relatable to the residents. This project is primarily composed of five different scale of activity blocks in accordance to the specification of spatial program. The primary guiding principle to morphology of activity blocks based on site potential to activate corner conditions and daylight optimization. Secondary to the formal investigation is a more human scale design to assimilate this new community center into Mission Bay district.

Program Strategy 15

Full size court, operable indoor and outdoor condition

1. Program Layout. This new community center calls for a building with a make up of 63% full size sporting court, 5% Gym, 10% Offices & Multipurpose recreational rooms & 5% Service space.

2. Program re-layout. Amenities, workspaces & recreational rooms act as supporting spine to two major sporting courts.

3. Massing shifting to activate site corners as communal outdoor zones and optimize surrounding landscape scenic view.

4. Breaking down massing to smaller community scale.

5. Assimilating community typologies image and enhance drainage performance with pitch roof profile.

6. Opening primarily towards North and North-East to minimise direct sun exposure and maximise site views.

SELF-SUFFICIENT ECO-VILLAGE A sustainable community center in Zhang Village, China Instructor: Hui Liu Undergraduate Thesis Huazhong University of Science and Technology

Keywords: Sustainability; Recycle System; Environment, Village, Community

How can we build a better environment for Zhang Village that improves their ecological condition and help villagers live a better and healthy life? After visiting the site and talking to local villagers, I found out the major problems of the village are the lack of communication of two villages, terrible environmental conditions and the lack of employment opportunities. To tackle these issues, I came up with the Self-Sufficient Eco-Village concept. This concept emphasizes 3 different circular chains to be implemented into the village through the design of a community center. The circulation cycle is enabled by the design of form and location; the ecological cycle is achieved by the arrangement of produce and building materials; the activity cycle is enhanced by the design of space and program. Overall, it contributes to a better Zhang Village, where it is fully self-sufficient, lively, and full of opportunities. 20

PLACE OF SENSES

Kayak Club Design to enhance Human Sensual Experience Instructor: Jay Arthon Individual Project University of California, Berkeley M.Arch Spring 2016

Keywords: Sensory Perception, Human Experience, Materials, Framing, Landscape Architecture

My drive is to meaningfully affect human experience by playing a part in the formation of perception through the design of their surroundings. The overall design of the form, interior space and its relationship to the exterior environment can affect how people will experience it. Moreover, by thoughtfully dealing with materials, openings, lighting conditions and acoustic factors, different sensory perceptions could be further enhanced.
