PHAMTOM COAST SF Seawall Infrastructure 2nd Year Landscape Studio in GSD Independent Work Location:San Francisco, Coastline Advisor:James Lord, Roderick Wyllie (Surface Design)
In this project, concrete pyramids and the steel structure are used to form the seawall which includes the actual seawall, the breakwater, the water front and so on. Modules can solve the dilemma San Francisco is facing right now. The sea is rising and the SF coast is influenced but the exact level of rising could not be predicted. Moreover, it is highly possible that there will be earthquakes in the next 25 years. Because of the unstable landfill, the area by the sea is also the most vulnerable area to earthquakes. If we build up land with modules, we can easily solve these two problems. Modules can stack so they can grow with the sea level rise. They can separate from each other so they are more flexible and could be used for the re-construction after earthquakes.
Modules could become the shelters in earthquakes. This Two pyramids could be assembled to become the camp for one person in terms of emergency.
Turbulence could be inserted into the pyramids. The electricity it generated can support the city and also support the activities on the sea.
Convertible Structure The structure is apllied to link those modules. The second structure share the components with the first structure. They are replaceable with each other.

The water from the sewage plant has been roughly purified so that it can be used for irrigation for the plants that are not too sensitive to polluants or area where few visitors choose to go. Once it is purified through its flow in the park, it is safe for direct connect to its visitors and thus can be used for different purposes like boating, swimming and so on. Three typical nodes are discussed there as cases in point for the combination of the water form and its usage in practice.

ADAPTIVE CITY
Boston Harbor Design
GSD 1st Year Design Individual Work
Instructor: David
Location:South Boston
Main Work: Graphic Representation, Landscape/Architectural Design
The South Boston Waterfront faces two universal pressures in the coming years and decades. The first is real estate development, and the second is how to maintain its ecological value as it confronts sea level rise. “Speculative Ecologies” confronts those pressures through the design of edge condition modules that can be applied to different waterfronts around the world. The first phase deploys commercially fabricated concrete piles and slabs arranged throughout the new edge to prepare the ground for remediation, infrastructure, and housing development. Through accretion of both dredge and waste construction materials among the arrangements, a landform that supports wetland ecozones and urban development emerges. In phase two, the pile and slab arrangement establishes the groundwork for parcel delineation and building footprints as well as a network of paths and roads. The configuration’s spacing and density respond to water levels. The volume of speculative built forms responds to COV and a sun/ shade system which allows for future programming and vegetation to co-exist.

CALSBAD CITY
Desert is not empty GSD 1st Year Design Collaborative Work Collaborator: Matthew Wong, Elizabeth Savrann Instructor: Rosetta Location: Calsbad City Experimental Design
Our project proposes an extended trail system which engages people in the landscape from the Carlsbad Caverns to the WIPP facility. Based on our research, while risk is the major actor on this site (drought and WIPP), it is long term risk, where the chances of danger from WIPP and the effects of drought are accumulated over time. Therefore, our design acts on a long time scale and be responsive. This trail system will be composed of different typologies of structures (elevated walkways, bridges, overlooks, tunnels etc.) that are responsive to the site's specific physical and political conditions, and their associations with risk (drought, WIPP, infrastructure, fire etc.). At acute moments identified as bottlenecks of risk will be responding directly with targeted interventions. The trail system will thread together unique moments and spaces of poetic risk mitigation and engagement, while at the same time highlighting the character of the region (potassium sinks, caverns, oil rockers, agriculture, horizon line, sink holes, bats and the night sky).
Hazzards in Desserts >Cavern Popular tourist attraction spot >>Oil Extraction One of the main industries and landscape in Calsbad >>>Salt Lake One of the main industries and landscape in Calsbad << Sink Hole Unexpected hazzards in the city < WIPP Possible emmisions for radioactive waste in the future
Antechamber Foyer
Corridor The 8m-wide corridor from east to west is the centre of this design. On the east side is the main entrance for the hotel, on the west is the entrance for the conference hall. The long corridor between them is for cafeteria, bar, convenience store a nd ot her faci lities for both on campus and off campus visitors. They can pass through the corridor while the academic and commercial atmosphere would not intervere with each other.

OTHER WORKS Introduction There are several problems with the existing media industry nowfor example, the lack of communications between different companies, potential customers do not understand the entire industry and so on. The aim of this project is by taking the form of corridor and stage combining with the blocks to design a more open to public media industry park.
Look at those screens! This park is amazing!
This park, should not only bring more conveience to people who work and live there, but also benefit the general public where they can enjoy it as a beautiful garden and take a look at some intresting aspects of this industry.
I live here. Go visit my studio UPSTAIRS!

Interface
Though the upper level and lower level are facing different groups of people, a connection between the two parts is essential.
Communicaiton&Presentation The lower level of the corridor is for the media industry companies. Those blocks can be reached directly by car. Offices, meeting rooms, all those funtions that can be shared within several companies would be find in one block.
Restaurants
The upper level of the block mainly tagets at visitors, to present a basic working environment of the media industry and attract the potential customers. So the emphasis should be put on the design of the interface, making it both attractive and transparent.

Central Stage
Section
The most exciting place in this park is the area within the railway. On the north side of it is the railway station. On the south side is the threefloor terrace formed by exhibition centers. The corridor from both sides of the stage would meet with each other in the central stage. In times of festivals, exhibitions will be conducted in the platform. The screen in front of the railway station will be the display board for company introduction, products display and so on. On ordinary days, when there are no festivals, the vistors and employees can still enjoy the beautiful view alike and take this place as a lovely garden. The railway of the site will be remained in the central stage as a memory of its historical use. Pathway would be set on the second floor so that people could look down upon the stage from the height.
