Sylvia Zet Artist Spotlight
An interview behind the artist of Wee Stamps
New Whimsy Stamps Artist
that it took only few months to be contacted by one of the children‟s book publishers and to have my first contract signed.
How did you become a rubber stamp artist? I am very grateful to wonderful Tracey Feeger from Spesch Designer Stamps who introduced me to the stamping world. It was great pleasure to work with her and awesome new adventure to have my first designs available as digital stamps. What do you love most about illustrating rubber stamps? It must be the fact that I can set my imagination free and play with it as much as I want. There is no particular theme or text I need to follow so I just keep working on the endless image possibilities until I am satisfied or simply tired. The other thing that I love about it is an appreciation and kind feedback from my designs‟ fans. It is something completely different than when working on the children‟s books. I have not only a possibility to contact with Crafters but also to enjoy theirs– sometimes really mind-blowing - creations.
Tell us a little about yourself - anything you'd like to share about you personally. I love to share my artworks but speaking or writing about myself has been always a challenge. To start with I am children‟s book illustrator and I LOVE this work! Being a stamps designer is something that I love even more! I am very very lucky to live in one of the most beautiful cities I have ever seen - in Edinburgh but I am originally from Poland. I have moved to UK few years ago, just after graduating from University, where I was studying …Polish literature!:) How did you start your art career? Did you always want to be an artist? Drawing has been always my biggest love, but I kept thinking about it as an hobby not as a possible way of life. I had no money to afford to go to art school and I had no courage to follow my heart and intuition so - in consequences- I choose different and more “secure” career path. Few years later I realized though that the hunger for creativity became too big to overcome and that there is no other way to be happy and fulfilled but to follow my passion. I started my art career by setting up an online portfolio of my artworks and writing a few thousands emails to publishers and agents all around the world. It was only 5 years ago but the quality of my drawings and first digital artworks was really poor that time (I still need a LOT of practice) and I think I was very lucky
©Whimsy Stamps, LLC.
What is your absolute favorite of the Whimsy Stamps that you've illustrated? I think it is Fluffy on the Lily and it should be released in Whimsy rubber soon. This adorable squirrel is absolutely the type of the pet I would love to bring to real life with some magic stick and play with :) Whenever I ask my husband similar question - which of my designs he likes the most – he says that the best ones are yet to come :) What inspires you? I like to say that my designs are dreamed up form fairy tales – and this is true actually. Fairy tales, legends and animated movies were my first inspirations. There is also the beauty of nature, the cuteness of baby animals and some very creative artistic minds out there that play a big part in my creating process. If you weren't an artist, what do you think you would like to do for a career? If I didn‟t draw I would deepen the other passions I have such as photography, sociology and psychology. These are only the few paths to start with. I believe there are many fascinating opportunities of career still being undiscovered, not only for me but for each one of us. As long as we have our ears, eyes and hearts wide open and we stay curious about life – it surely will amaze us with it‟s diversity. What is the one tool/supply you can't live without? I am not very demanding in this matter. Combination of a pencil and few sheets of paper is an ocean of endless possibilities…

Book Box Tutorial by Patricia Garcia
In this tutorial, Patricia teaches you how to transform an old book into a masterpiece! It is a unique gift that anyone would love to receive!
Supplies
Old Hard Cover Book
Craft Knife
Glue
Sand Paper
1
Step 1: I start sanding down the title and distressing a bit the fabric. Step 2: I add glue to the edge of the pages, you need to glue one by one. Leaving the center (where the letters are) with no glue. ©Whimsy Stamps, LLC.

Step 3: With your craft knife cut all around the wording of the pages, this will be easy as all the pages are already glued together, so you should have a pretty good alignment. I glued mines in sections, example 30 pages in a bunch and then cut thru those 30 and so on.
Step 4: This is all the cutting around the wording.
5 Step 5: Once you cut all around it's really easy to pull out the pages. Apply Glue (I used Tape glue it's a lot stronger and you don't have to wait till it dries) to all your sections.
6
Step 6: Press Firmly and your Book is ready to decorate!

Trinket Pins Tutorial by Iris Wiechmann
In the following tutorial would I like to show you how I make my own trinket pins/hat pins to use as embellishments! Supplies
trinket pin / hat pin blanks, corsage pins different pearls, charms, spacers etc. glue tools: needlenose pliers, bead reamer, tool for applying glue Styrofoam cone or pin cushion Copic marker, your color choice
1
STEP 1: After deciding what pearls to use and what kind of trinket pin I like to make I’m ready to assemble my first pin. I went for all golden materials. Four different size pearls, a bead cap and a spacer. My pin is 2.5 inches long and is a regular hat pin blank. ©Whimsy Stamps, LLC.

Do It Yourself: Trinket Pins by Iris
2
3
Step 2: Now thread on your pearls in the desired order. Step 3: I like to secure my beads with glue. Other options would be to use a crimp bead at the end of your pearls or add a clutch.
4
5
Step 4: Apply a little bit of glue to the pin and second last pearl before stringing on the last bead. In my case this is a bead cap.
6
Step 5: There are lots of different glues you can use. I prefer Aleene’s Clear Gel Tacky Glue or Aleene’s Thick Designer Tacky Glue. Both have a strong bond and dry crystal clear. Careful with super glues (fast drying glues) as they will shrink and become brittle over time. Which can result in loose pearls.
Step 6: Use a pin cushion or Styrofoam cone (my favorite) to let the glue dry completely. Best is over night or see your glues directions for drying time.
Tip: Sometimes the hole in a bead is just a tiny bit too small for the pin. You can open up the hole just a little by using a bead reamer. Works well on metal and plastic beads. Be careful with glass beads as they can break.

Do It Yourself: Trinket Pins by Iris
8
Step 8: I added my charm to a short piece of chain. Using a jump ring attach the dangle to the loop with your needle nose pliers. Some loops are open then you don’t have to use a jump ring. Simply bend open the loop very carefully, add the dangle and close it again.
7 Step 7: For my next trinket pin I chose a hat pin blank with a loop. These are perfect for adding little charm danglers to your pin.
9
10a
Step 9: Because my dangle is a little longer I decided to add to more pearls.
10b Step 10: Again string on all your pearls, add glue and secure the last bead.

12
11 Step 12: Another way to add a dangle is to just thread it onto your pin between two pearls. Step 11: Stick to the cone and let dry.
Step 13: Corsage pins make also perfect trinket pins. You can use them alone or add more pearls.
14
13
Step 14: I like to make a yellow-green trinket pin with 3 pearls. But the pearl of my corsage pin is white. What now?
15
Step 15: Just use a Copic marker in a matching color and color your white pearl! It’s that easy!

Quick Tip
Jewel Box Storage Quick Tip by Iris Wiechmann Trying to find the perfect storage solution for all your sentiments? Need a quick way to find just the right one to use on your creation? Then this may just be the perfect Quick Tip for you! I like to store my Whimsy Sentiment Sets in DVD jewel cases. You can find DVD jewel cases online with the DVD hub already removed and for under $1. They are the perfect size for the sets and easy to store.
The packing slip fits perfectly in the cover and makes organizing the sets easy. I use removable Dotto Dots to adhere the paper to the case to prevent possible shifting and slipping. It’s almost not visible and can be easily removed. ŠWhimsy Stamps, LLC.
Whimsy stamps come already mounted on EZ cling cushion foam. Just trim to the desired size and put in the jewel case.
Whimsy Stamps Inspirations Magazine October 2011, Issue 4
I like to store my jewel cases in baskets. Makes it easy to flip through them when looking for a matching sentiment for a project.

Join me as I give you step by step instructions and walk you through this entire project! Supplies

Step 6: Distress the DP insert page with Ranger Ink to create more contrast from the base
Step 7: I combined a paper border from the Whimsy double scalloped border die cut with an elegant lace from my stash and wrapped around the insert dress shape
9
8
Step 9: I rolled the swirl flower, distressed the edges (flowers aren't white at the edges hehe) then added a pearl to each
Step 8: This dress has lovely grooves perfect for lace borders, I added ribbon from stash to finish off the dresses ruffle look
11 Step 11: Distressed the rattle and added the Sentiment from the Celebration Pennants Sentiment Set and added the liquid pearls
10 Step 10: I rolled each leaf shape inward to create depth in the leaves ŠWhimsy Stamps, LLC.
Goodness, gracious, it's the 15 minute marker and the project is complete! The charm is added to the cutoff rattle die cut and don't forget, I added some of the elegant ruffle lace to the designated (not just round) shaped sleeve area and the card is complete!

5
6 Step 5: Now it looks like this with the butterfly impression. Next, I use the smaller butterfly.
8
7
Step 7: Now it’s ready! ©Whimsy Stamps, LLC.
Step 6: As you can see I have pressed the little butterfly little bit harder than big one and the impression is deeper than the first. I’m going to use one more stamp that says “For You”
Step 8: Here are some other stamps that I have used. I stamped the flourish stamp for the tree and the Happy Thanksgiving stamp for another one.

Do It Yourself: Clay Embellishments by Minna
10
9
Step 9: Here is another picture. For the heart I have firsat used this text stamp and then Whimsy butterfly die.
12
11 Step 11: When the clay is dry, we can start to color them and decorate them. To color them, I have used Distress Ink pads and refills.
13
Step 13: And here are some other colours that I have used in the same way. ©Whimsy Stamps, LLC.
Step 10: Here are all the “cookies”. As you can see you can create what kind ever you want, it`s just your imagination. Before you can paint or decorate them allowe them to dry about 24 hours.
Step 12: Here, I’ve used Distress Ink Pumice Stone and an ink blending tool for coloring.
14
Step 14: After that, I added a little bit of Walnut Stain for the edges the same way as earlier with the ink blending tool.

Do It Yourself: Clay Embellishments by Minna Step 15: In this example, I’ve coloured it with Distress Ink refill in Aged Mahogany. To do this, put a one drop on an acrylic block, use a paintbrush to take up the colour, and colour the clay mold. If you use this method, allow them to dry again until the clay has hardened.
16 15
Step 16: And here are all the embellishments. Now they are ready for use, we can add some glitter on to them to give them a little shimmer.
17
18 Step 17: To do this, you need an old watercolor brush, white paint, glitter glue in silver, picket fence, star dust, platinum or what ever else you want to put them. Make sure that the brush that you use is not the same ones that you color your images with :) It will ruin the brush! ŠWhimsy Stamps, LLC.
Step 18: The technique that I like to use is to combine white paint and the glitter glue (in this picture I have used the silver one)

Do It Yourself: Clay Embellishments by Minna
19 Step 19: You can either spread it around like I have, or only in the other side or here and there.
Step 20: Below are all the clay embellishments with paint and glitter glue. Now they have to dry and then they are ready to use!

I love to make my images a bit more realistic and this is how I use Liquid Applique with my heat gun for a puffy effect.

Do It Yourself: Box Tutorial with Pops
3
Step 4: Then I took my Incerdibily Tacky Glue and I glued on the papers and again I waited for it to dry. Remember at this point to find your screw holes again.
4
Step 3: I chose the paper I wanted to use, I always use Digital Paper when doing a project like this so if I make a mistake I can just print off another sheet without worrying I have enough, the paper I chose for this project is Nitwits and this one is called Winter Wishes too I measured and cut to size all my papers.
Step 5: While I am waiting for this to dry I print out my Image I chose a Crissy Armstrong Digital Image she is called Little Christmas Angel I printed her on to Neenah Card and I coloured her with Marker pens.
5-7
Copic Color Combos:
Skin: E000, E00, E11, E02, R02 Hair: YR21, E31, E30, E50 Dress: B01, B00, B000 Bird: E44, E43, E42, R15 Holly: G21, G94, R27 Wings: B000, C0 Step 6: I have added Stardust to her wings and cut her out using a Circle and Kraft Card for my Base using a Scalloped Circle.
7
I then fix all my screws back in to place and the box is now ready to decorate. I then start by adding my image first using the same glue. I have added some flowers Trellis Roses, Wild Roses and Cherry Blossoms, to get the sparkle on them I added a touch of glue to the tips and I dipped it in to a pot of Silver German Glitter Glass and left to dry.
Step 7: I cut a few hearts out using a shape I have and i glued and Glittered them also, after they were dry I dabbed white paint over them and glued all the flowers and hearts to the box. I then finished it off with a Bow using Seam Binding and a few leaves, holly and berries and I sprayed everything with silver varnish.

Decorating Candles Tutorial by Minna Paajanen
Walk through these simple and easy steps with Minna as she shows you how to decorate your candles!
1 Supplies
Whimsy Stamps Winter Fairy and Cozy Little Snowman White silk paper (tissue paper) Ink markers (Copics used here) Candles Heat gun varnish
2 Step 1: I have stamped the images on to the silk paper.
Step 2: Here I have colored the images with Copics. It`s better to keep paper under the silk paper while coloring because the color may bleed through and pretty soon you’ll have a very colorful desk :)

Step 4a: You can use your embossing heating tool for the attaching but be carefully that the candle don`t melt :) Or you can use‌
Step 3: After coloring cut the images a little bit smaller, cut near the image. Here you can also see the candles what I have used. Now we can start to attach the images on to the candles. I have to different ways to show.
Step 4b: Candle varnish and watercolor brush for the attaching. And do this also carefully because the silk paper is really really thin. I have added this varnish about two or three layers and allow it to dry between the layers.

5
Step 5: Here are the finished candles. I have added a little bit glitter glue Star Dust to the both of them. Hope you enjoyed these fun and easy steps to decorate your candles!

Trifold Holiday Portfolio
How-to by Jacque Beddingfield The base is cut from heavy white CS which measures 18"X24". On the long side, score at 6", 12", and 18". On the shorter side, score at 6". Fold at the score lines and use a strong adhesive tape to make the 4 pockets at the bottom. Each panel on the outside measures 6"X12", and on the inside each panel is a 6" square. I machine stitched each panel but of course that is not necessary. I also double matted each panel which is also not necessary. Proceed to decorate the back and the inside as you wish. I purchased tags, weekly planner, note cards, etc to put into the pockets, but that is up to you! I also made some library pockets to hold additional tags. Have fun! ŠWhimsy Stamps, LLC.
