LABRONZE SANDERSON, SAMMY DONALD, AND BRYCE SMITH ALL HIT HOME RUNS

The three players went 4-for-9 on the night Clovis, CA June 22, 2011 – The Fresno Cardinals played their first home games of the season at Buchanan where some of the players hoped to continue their great high school experience of playing at Buchanan, whether it was as the home or visiting team. The first, third, and fifth innings were the great ones for the Cardinals. LaBronze Sanderson hit a 313 foot home run down the right field line as the first batter of the bottom of the first inning. This is the same ballpark where he hit his only high school home run. Then with one out in the bottom of the third, Buchanan alumni Sammy Donald came up and hit an out of here home run to left field. In the fifth inning with one out and a runner at first, Cardinals catcher Bryce Smith hit a home run to left field. The Cardinals now have four home runs on the season. The Fresno Cardinals were not able to hold off the Santa Maria Valley Packers and lost 7-6. Zak Colby went 1-4 with a RBI. Nate Dalena went 2-4. Sammy Donald went 1-2 with two walks, home run, a RBI, and two runs. Brandon King went 1-4. LaBronze Sanderson went 2-3, with a walk, a double, home run, a RBI, and two runs. Bryce Smith went 1-4 with a home run, two RBIs, and a run. Pitcher Tyler Walker (Kerman HS/Fresno City) started for the Cardinals. He went five innings, giving up four hits, three runs, two earned runs, and struck out two. The first hit of the game came when LaBronze Sanderson (Cuesta College) came up to bat in the bottom of the first inning. He hit his first home run of the season down the right field line. The Cardinals led 1-0. The next hit of the game for the Cardinals came with Sammy Donald’s (Fresno State) home run to left field with one out in the third. The Cardinals led 2-0.


Brian Gaad reached first on an error with one out in the fifth inning. Bryce Smith (Cal State Stanislaus) then came up to bat and hit a two run home run to left field. Sammy Donald walked and LaBronze Sanderson doubled to right field. Zak Colby singled to left field scoring Sammy Donald. Mitchell Sodersten (Fresno City College) hit a sacrifice fly to right center scoring LaBronze Sanderson. The Cardinals scored four runs off of three hits and one error. They led 60. Pitcher Travis Walker (Kerman HS/Fresno City) came in the sixth inning with runners on and pitched one and two third innings. He gave up six hits, four runs, three earned runs, and struck out two. Nate Dalena (Fresno City College) singled to left field with one out in the sixth inning. With two out and runners on base in the seventh inning, Cardinals pitcher Daniel Neves (Fresno Pacific) came in and pitched two innings. He gave up one hit, three walks, and struck out two. With one out in the seventh, Sammy Donald walked and LaBronze Sanderson walked. Brandon King (Oral Roberts) singled through the right side with one out in the eighth. Pitcher Clay Gartner (George Fox University) came in the top of the ninth to get the final out and struck out the batter. Nate Dalena singled up the middle to start off the bottom of the ninth.
