THE FRESNO CARDINALS START OFF THE HOMESTAND WITH 18-1 AND 3-0 WINS The Cardinals had twenty-one hits in the doubleheader Fresno, CA June 8, 2011 – The Fresno Cardinals played their first home games of the season. They hosted the East Bay Colt .45’s for a doubleheader. The Cardinals won the first game 181 and the second game 3-0. The Fresno Cardinals batters had 21 hits, 23 runs, six doubles, one triple, and eight walks in the doubleheader. The Cardinals pitchers gave up six hits, one run, five walks, and fourteen strikeouts in the doubleheader.

Zak Colby went 2-4 with a walk, a double, 4 RBIs, and two runs. Nate Dalena went 3-4 with a walk, a double, 2 RBIs, and three runs. Sam Donald went 1-3 with a double. Matt Fox went 2-4 with a triple, a RBI, and a run. Brian Gaad went 3-3 with a walk, a double, a RBI, and 3 runs. Bryce Smith went 2-7 with a walk, 2 RBI’s, and 2 runs. Fresno Cardinal pitching gave up four hits, two walks, and one earned run in the first game of the doubleheader. The Cardinals batters had nineteen hits, five doubles, and six walks. Catcher Zak Colby caught a runner stealing second base. Cardinals starting pitcher Phil Quade (Cal State Stanislaus) threw three innings of no hit ball before giving up a single in the top of the fourth inning. He pitched four innings giving up one hit, one walk, and striking out two. The Cardinals turned three double plays in the game. LaBronze Sanderson (Cuesta College) singled to shortstop to start off the bottom of the first inning. The Cardinals had runners at first and third with one out but were unable to score.
In the bottom of the second inning the Cardinals bats came alive. Brian Gaad (Reedley College), Bryce Smith (Cal State Stanislaus), and Anthony Lopez (Fresno City College) all singled with one out to load the bases. Zak Colby (Fresno City College) came up to bat with two outs and hit a bases clearing double to left field. Colton Vaughn (South Mount. CC) walked and Nate Dalena (Fresno City College) singled to load the bases. David Whiteside singled scoring Zak Colby and Colton Vaughn. Nate Dalena scored on an error in the play. The Cardinals scored six runs off of six hits and one error. They led 6-0. Cody White (Reedley College) walked to start of the bottom of the third inning. Brian Gaad doubled down the left field line, putting runners at second and third. Bryce Smith doubled to right field scoring Cody White and Brian Gaad. With two out Zak Colby singled up the middle scoring Bryce Smith. They scored the three runs off of three hits and led 9-0 Cardinal’s pitcher Richard Demshok (Reedley College) pitcher came in fifth inning and pitched two innings. H got the win for the Cardinals and is 1-0 on the season. The East Bay Colt 45’s scored one run in the top of the fifth inning off of three hits. The Cardinals led 9-1. Colton Vaughn singled to center field to start off the bottom of the sixth inning. Nate Dalena doubled down the left field line putting runners at second and third. David Whiteside (Patten University) singed through the right side scoring Colton Vaughn. With one out Brian Gaad singled scoring Nate Dalana and putting runners at first and second. Brian Gaad and David Whiteside advanced to second and third on a passed ball. Anthony Lopez walked to load the bases with two outs. LaBronze Sanderson singled to left field scoring David Whiteside and Brian Gaad. Zak Colby walked to load the bases. Colton Vaughn was hit by pitch scoring Anthony Lopez. Nate Dalena singled scoring LaBronze Sanderson and Zak Colby and putting runners at first and third. David Whiteside doubled to left center scoring Colton Vaughn and Nate Dalena. The Cardinals scored nine runs off of seven hits. Isaac Duran (Patten University) came in to pitch the seventh inning. He got all three batters out. The Cardinals were unable to score in the inning. The East Bay Colt 45’s had runner at third with no one out in the second inning. Clay Gartner was able to get three strikeouts to end the threat in the inning. Connor Williams (Reedley College) reached first and advanced to second base on an error with one out in second. He advanced to third on a wild pitch but the Cardinals were unable to score him. In the third inning Cody White (Reedley College) walked to start off the inning. Andrew Swan singled putting runners at first and third. Matt Fox singled through the right side scoring Cody White and putting runners at first and third. Mitchell Sodersten (Fresno City College) hit a sacrifice fly to left field scoring Andrew Swan. Chris Kuber (Fresno City College) was hit by a pitch with two out putting runners at first and second. The Cardinals scored two runs off of two hits. They led 2-0. Right fielder Mitchell Sodersten fielded a ground ball and threw it to first base for the second out in the fourth inning. With one out in the bottom of the fifth inning Matt Fox tripled to right field. Mitchell Sodersten hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring Matt Fox. The Cardinals scored one run off of one hit. They led 3-0 Cardinal’s pitcher Aaron Garabidian (Reedley College) came in the sixth inning and pitched two innings of no hit ball. Sam Donald (Fresno State) doubled to start off the seventh inning. The Cardinals batters were unable to score him. Daniel Neves (Fresno Pacific) pitched the eighth and ninth innings and gave up no hits. He got the save for the Cardinals. The East Bay Colt 45’s had the bases loaded with one out in the top of the eighth, but the Cardinals were able to turn a double play to get out of the inning.
