Valley Bears PWBL All-Star Kaohu Gaspar By Cherie Smith Kaohu Gaspar is a redshirt junior from Fresno Pacific University. He is playing summer collegiate baseball for the Valley Bears in Fresno, CA. Gasper attended St. Frances Central Coast High School in Watsonville, CA and graduated in 2009. He is from Gilroy, CA. Gaspar played at Fresno State for three years including redshirting one year. This year, 2013, was his first year at Fresno Pacific. In 2010, as a freshman, Gaspar played for the Crystal Lake Cardinals in Crystal Lake, IL. In 2011, he played for the Oneonta Outlaws in Oneonta, NY. They are part of the New York Collegiate Baseball League (NYCBL) and were the 2011 NYCBL Champions. In 2012, he played for the Oahu Paddlers in the Hawaii Collegiate Baseball League HCBL) where he made the all-star team. Kaohu Gaspar batting for the Valley Bears on Friday, June

Gasper enjoys playing for the Valley Bears this summer He said, “Got a good group of college athletes and we all get along quite well. Our coach plays to win every game, but at the same

time has fun with us.” Gasper said, “Playing for the Bears is fun because all the players are from the valley. Highlights would probably be the home runs I have hit along with just enjoying myself and hanging with the team.” The Valley Bears are part of the Pacific West Baseball League (PWBL). As of July 24 Gaspar has played in 14 games, 48 at bats, 15 runs scored, 19 hits, 3 doubles, 2 homeruns, 12 RBIs, 7 walks, 7 strikeouts, a stolen base, and a .396 batting average for the Bears. He made the 2013 PWBL All-Star team. Gaspar has played left, center, right, third base, and first base this summer. Fresno Pacific University is in Fresno, CA. They just finished their second year as a Division II school and part of The Pacific West conference. At Fresno Pacific in 2013 Gaspar played in 48 games, started 42 games, 132 at bats, 33 runs scored, 43 hits, 6 doubles, a triple, a homerun, 19 RBIs, 28 walks, 6 hit by pitches, 21 strikeouts, a sacrifice fly, 13 stolen bases, a .409 slugging percentage, .461 on base percentage, and a .326 batting average. Gaspar earned 2013 third team All-PacWest as an outfielder. He played left field until an injury, then was a designated hitter until he earned a starting spot in right field. Gaspar is a Business Marketing/Management major. Gaspar said, “I started playing baseball when I was 3. My dad played in the minors and he was a big influence. My other influence was my older brother. He went to East Carolina for baseball and then played in the minors. So I hope to follow in the footsteps that they have set for me.”
