THE SLO RATTLERS SHUTOUT THE CALIFORNIA WAHOOS, 11-0 Pitcher Mike Massari went five innings and struck out five San Luis Obispo, CA (July 15, 2010) – The Rattlers scored a run in the bottom of the third inning and did not look back. The runs were scored in the bottom of the first, fourth, fifth, and eighth innings. The Rattlers had great pitching and played great defense. This is the third time this year the Rattlers have shut out a team and the second time the score was 11-0. Mike Massari (University of Redlands) got his second start of the season and went a season high five innings. He gave up six hits and struck out five. He got the win and is 4-2 on the season.

#19 Justin Crumpley went 3-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored

The Rattlers turned a double play for the first two outs in the first inning. Jimmy Allen (Rancho Buena Vista HS/Cal Poly SLO) singled to shortstop to start off the bottom of the first inning, stole second, and moved to third on a wild pitch. The next batter, Davey Schultz, (Cuesta College) singled to center field scoring Jimmy Allen. Groundouts moved Davey Schultz to second and third, but the Rattlers were not able to score him. The Rattlers took an early 1-0 lead Davey Schultz doubled down the left field line with two out in the bottom of the third. With one out in the fourth inning, Kyle Wise (Southwest Baptist) took the first pitch he saw and sent it to left field for a double. Gabriel Loweree (Ave Maria University) sent the first pitch he saw to right field for a single putting runners at first and third. Chris Hoo (Francis HS/ Cal Poly SLO) singled to left field scoring Kyle Wise. Chris Lauritzen (Santa Barbara City College) reached first on an error to load the bases. The Rattlers did not score another run in the inning. The Rattlers led 2-0. Davey Schultz walked to start off the bottom of the fifth inning. The first pitch Justin Crumpley (Southwest Baptist) saw, he sent to right center for a double. That put runners at second and third. Kyle Wise singled to right center scoring Davey Schultz. Gabriel Loweree reached first on an error. It scored Justin Crumpley from third. Chris Hoo walked to load the bases. Chris Lauritzen hit into a fielder’s choice scoring Kyle Wise. The Rattlers led 5-0


Alex Sammons (Saddleback College) came in the sixth inning and pitched two and a third innings. He gave up two hits and one walk. Justin Crumpley singled up the middle to start off the bottom of the seventh inning. The Rattlers bats were not able to move him over. Trevor Elswick (College of the Canyons) came in for the last two outs in the top of the eighth inning. He struck out one. Catcher Mitchell Prophet (Cuesta College) came in with Trevor Elswick as part of the double switch. That was his first appearance in a game as a Rattler. He had two plate appearances in the bottom of the eighth. Chris Lauritzen walked with one out in the bottom of the eighth inning and then stole second. Brett Wise (Feather River Community College) singled down the right field line putting runners at first and third. Jimmy Allen singled to center field scoring Chris Lauritzen. Davey Schultz singled to left field scoring Brett Wise. An error put runners at second and third. Nigel Morton (Southwest Baptist) reached first on an error scoring Jimmy Allen and Davey Schultz. Justin Crumpley doubled to left center scoring his college teammate Nigel Morton. With two outs Gabriel Loweree singled down the left field line scoring Justin Crumpley. He moved to second on the throw. The Rattlers lead 11-0. Michael Nielebeck (Cuesta College) pitched the top of the ninth inning get all three batters out he faced including striking out one.
