MATT ANDERSON MADE A GREAT PLAY IN LEFT FIELD FOUL TERRITORY Jimmy Allen went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs Compton, CA (July 29, 2010) – The SLO Rattlers scored their two runs in the fifth and seventh innings. They led 4-3 going into the bottom of the eighth inning, but were unable to keep the lead. The MLB Urban Academy Barons scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to win 5-4. Rattlers’ left fielder Matt Anderson made a great play. He caught a fly ball in left field foul territory and with less than two outs and the runner at third trying to score; Anderson threw the ball to catcher Chris Hoo to throw the runner out a home.

This is the last game this summer that college teammates Jeremy Gonzales and Joe Etcheverry play together since one of them is a starting pitcher. Jeremy Gonzales (Northern Illinois University) got the start for the Rattlers. He pitched five innings, gave up six hits, three runs, two earned runs, and struck out three. Robert Vickers (College of the Canyons) singled up the middle in the top of the first inning with two out. The MLB Academy Barons scored two runs off of two hits and one error in the bottom of the first inning. They took an early 2-0 lead. Rattlers catcher Chris Hoo (Francis HS/Cal Poly SLO) caught a Barons runner trying to steal second for the third out in the bottom of the second inning. Jimmy Allen (Rancho Buena Vista HS/Cal Poly SLO) singled through the left side with two out in the third inning.


The Barons scored one run off of one hit and two errors in the bottom of the third inning. They led 3-0. The MLB Academy Barons had runners at first and third with no one out in the bottom of the fourth. With one out, the Barons batters fouled out and leftfielder Matt Anderson (Cuesta College) threw out the Barons runner trying to score from third. Matt Anderson came up to bat after his great play and singled through the right side to start off the fifth inning. With one out Chris Lauritzen (Santa Barbara City College) grounded out moving Matt Anderson to second. Then Brett Wise (Feather River College) walked. Then Jimmy Allen doubled down the left field line scoring Matt Anderson and Brett Wise. The Barons led 3-2. Pitcher Kirk Fridrich (Kansas Wesleyan University) came in the sixth inning and pitched the sixth and seventh innings for two shutout innings. He did not give up a hit or a walk. Matt Anderson walked to start off the top of the seventh inning and then stole second. Chris Hoo singled through the left side putting runners at first and third. Chris Lauritzen singled down the right field line putting runners at first and third and scoring Matt Anderson. Chris Larutizen stole second with one out. Jimmy Allen singled up the middle putting runners at first and third and scoring Chris Hoo. The Rattlers led 4-3. Mike Massari (University of Redlands) came in the bottom of the eighth inning and pitched two thirds of an inning. He gave up two hits, two earned runs, and two walks. The Barons scored two runs in bottom of the eighth inning off of two hits and one error. They led 5-4.
